I think ideally the lightbearer is one of the strongest on the team and there would only be one and I would change the second to a fisherman scout or even a second wave controller since their uniqueness can add a lot to team depth. But if the team is mediocre perhaps the two light bearers is the best comp

there is also the fact that inventory isn't exclusive to positions, light bearers can use reels, scouts can use lighthouses , also better light houses have more uses , like creating barriers , teleporting people , or traping enemies , the reason why shibisu is a scout is probably because he can't use enough shinsu to operate a lighthouse , he is also more of a improviser rather than schemer like khun , for hatz it's probably his stubbornness , fishermen have to be versatile , he insists on using a disadvantageous weapon

Well Hatsu is a Skilled, Fighter and as the series will prgress, he will rise up only, he will be so strong to go against a princes of Jahad and Make a Statement that he can kill her, he is best as scout because with scout way of Battle his Abilities Increase, it's not like that he uses a Sword (Spoilers he will not even need a Sword soon) and shibsu is much more dangerous than you think, don't believe that he is the weakest of the bunch so he can't fight he is a dream team member to have, his skills allow him to get out of any problem, you might Understand me if you are on the latest Chapters of the Webtoon

Some extra information: Fisherman is generally considered the strongest position. It's like the Saber class of the ToG universe. Five of the top 10 Rankers are Fishermen as their main position. Another two are have it as a secondary (Scout and Spear Bearer are their main positions). There is also one Waver Controller, one Spear Bearer, and one unknown. While all Rankers have a main position and some even hold multiple, High Rankers are far above everyone else that they can fill any position better than a normal Ranker who specializes in it. The special positions are: Guide, Defender, Anima, Wonsulsa (circle-technique user), Dansulsa (pressure-technique user), Hwayeomsa (flame user), and Jeonsulsa (lightning user). Except for Guide and Defender they are more like sub-positions that describe the ability to use special Shinsu techniques. Fun fact: we have already met at least one person from each special position except Defender. Animas are basically beast tamers who usually controller Shinheuh (divine fish). We saw Yuga and Han Sung use Anima techniques in their fight. Evan is a guide as we know (as the Zahard family's chief guide he's actually a top 100 Ranker and the highest ranked Guide). Quant is a Hwayeomsa but I don't think we ever actually see him use flame techniques. Similarly, Lero-Ro is a Jeonsulsa but I don't think it ever really comes up. The other two are minor spoilers.

@@khupno3356 From what I remember correctly, I may be wrong, but Phantaminum isn't really important in the story and will most likely not come up again, according to SIU. He's an Axis/God from a different plane to punish Zahard. I'm not sure if all of this information still holds up, but you can check the ToG wikia just to make sure or if you want to know more about the story of ToG

They also didn't explain bangs, myun and soo, which are super important for shinsu controlling. I don't know why they skip crucial things but then add 10 jokes per episode about Rak and chocolate

I only wish there was an emphasis on the defender position....that being said the Light-Fisher-Wave-Sprinkled with Spearbearer team up is legit ESPECIALLY RAKHUNBAM (with a side of Endorsi)

one leader of the 10 families is a tank-position as he said in the end of the video, the positions can be modified to be unique for an individual, examples are swordman or a tank posiion, there is even a anima position (that can be called like a evoker postion)

I really like this about tog (im not saying other anime/manga etc. didnt do it before) that they make sense why for example some things fly unlike in some cases "it flies because uhh... it just does"

Interesting how ToG seems more focused on control and support positions than the flashier front-line fighters. Even in other anime that emphasize strategy like Hunter x Hunter or JoJo's the main characters are often skewed towards being powerful melee fighters. And plenty of anime that have team dynamics skip out on such things entirely.

@@ceoatianaamber2265 An anima is literally just someone who can control other living beings. It should not be a position as it is just a name for someone that has that rare power. If you're an Anima, it's likely that you'll be fulfilling a position that works alongside your subjugated animal/person. Example: If you have a wolf or something that you can command to instantly appear and attack people at will, you'd probably play a role that excels at keeping foes under pressure at midrange like a wave controller or a fisherman with an excellent reel control. So in that case, you'd be an Anima, yes but your position is Wave Controller/Fisherman

Fisherman are closer to the tank class than the dps. They have high damage output, but their main role is to distract the opponent. Think of it as a brawler. Mix of dps and tank.

I guess it really depends on who is the fisherman. We will meet some deadly fisherman with incredibly destructive damage later on. I think the ones who serve as distraction are the support positions (scouts, spear bearers and wave controllers to some extent).

Yeah, dps or support, fishermen are the ones that draw the most attention as the core frontline. They can pull that attention through overwhelming force or skillful techniques but the point is that they are in your face and you will respect that. Spearbearers are the dps, meant to hit weakpoints and finish kills. Many time fishermen and spear bearers switch most often.

@@DullFiction two other positions: scout, who are essentially the assassin class. high damage, high mobility, low defense. wave controller, who are wizards. top tiered ones reshape the entire battlefield with their power and direct the flow of battle, either up close or from a distance. spearbearers can also do high DPS, but they're snipers, they hit you once from a distance and leave their allies to handle you if you survive.

It seems to me that a lot of things that were cut out in the anime were things that have been lost in the webtoon too. For example I can’t recall the last time I saw someone use the fisherman reel (on chapter 370), I haven’t seen anyone mention myun since the beginning, only shinsu and bang are more referenced. The author themself wanted these things omitted because they realised that they rarely mentioned them later in the webtoon after mentioning it once. Like the explanation of how the lighthouses float, until I saw this video I literally forgot that there was an actual word for the reason why they float which to me means that they don’t really need to mention the name of it as it’s not brought up often enough to be important enough to have its own explanation. Considering that it’s only getting one season (they probably want to see how season 1 works out before deciding to work on season 2 as well, IF people encourage it and it does well) I think they are doing well at including all the actual IMPORTANT details that are constantly brought up, also with a time limit of 20 mins per episode they have to be critical in choosing what they do and don’t include.

Technically in Korean lightbearers are called lighthouse keepers. So every position has aquatic theme.

It's important to note that Fisherman is not only a role, but also used to describe someone that is a top tier fighter capable of fighting multiple enemies from all ranges and in all scenarios. Very few (even rankers) are officially considered Fishermen in the latter regard, and those that are considered such are usually legends. (10 Family leaders, Jahad, Urek, Eurasia Enne Jahad, etc)

Specific role tailored to the abilitiee of a specific person... Yeah just keep showing hwaryun, nobody will notice it And then there is a role only touched upon aside hwaryun's in the webtoon, a better explenation would be great (the one of the native one I mean, can't say more without spoilers)

Baam is most definitely still fit to the wave controller generally. However, it is important to notice that it has already been said that the stronger you get the more versatile you often become (especially if you're something like a wave controller) because shinsu can be used in so many ways. Since shinsu is so versatile, it makes sense for Baam to end up like that.

The 8 man team i would like to climbe the tower with would be: 1. Two light bearers one coordinating the team and one directly supporting the team. 2. One wave controller generaly working from a bit farther than the fishermen and coordinating with the second light bearer for maximum firepower. 3. Two scouts one focused in finding the enemie and identifing potential traps befor engaging with the fishermen. The other scout should focus on finding the enemie light bearer and other backlieners and either take them out or have the spearbearer/wave controller snipe them. 4. Two fishermen one focused on engaging the enemie with needel/hook in close quarters and the other one focused on keeping flanking enemies in check with both abel to perform the others role if needed. 5. One spearbearer mainly keeping the first light bearer save and sniping the enemie backline if possibel.

I think calling fishermen a DPS class is kind of inaccurate, they are a class focused on disarming and distracting the enemy(like endorsi dueling quant letting bam do his thing) The class that fits DPS the most is Wave Controller

Whenever i hear the fisherman position i think of something else entirely. Day 32 of asking for iskander fate zero servant reviews.

Hello! I would like to add on to the topic since I've been reading the webtoon for way too long now. It's been slightly mentioned in the video but I'll name one. There are more than 5 positions in the Tower but again, those are the basic 5 and they are the most common. One other position you'll get to know later in the anime series may be one called a Guide. What does it mean? It will be explained later.

My fav positions are the wave controllers and the scouts

The truly most OP setup is the wave controller and the light bearer. Wave controllers can be diverse enough to do most other positions, while allowing the light bearer to strategize.

Honestly, people need to understand the difference between normal wave controllers and Bam

2 Fisherman 2 Scouts 3 Wave Controllers 1 Light Bearer Spear bearers are basically worse than specialized wave controllers. A good lore reason to put one on a team is lack of access to high enough quality wave controllers. Assuming you could put the best of the best on a team, I think we'd see all teams slowly remove Spears similar to how we stopped using them in war when we discovered gun powder. As for the other positions, 2 scouts allows more of a view of the battlefield, but could cripple your team in a 1v1 team fight since front line scouts are pretty much weak fisherman/wave controllers. One light bearer should be plenty-- either well protected in a 1v1 scenario or protected through the standard rules of FFA engagements in multi-team battles (that is, first team to attack almost always loses so they tend to be stalemates). There are two issues I could see with this setup due to lack of information... 1 - MP issues. Wave controllers may be more limited than Spear Bearers. 2 - Light Bearers dying during the climb. Might be good to have a backup that's familiar with the team rather than recruiting an entirely new person to the team. Insurance policies like this tend to make teams weaker in the short term, but more resilient in the long term.

I thought you were going to cover the special positions too. Maybe next time. As an always mage/sorcerer picker myself, wave controller is by far my favourite class. They can do anything in ToG: support, attack, crowd controll... anything.

I’d definitely be a Scout. Stealth gameplay is my favorite kind with Wave Controller being my Secondary as I also often choose mages and in the Tower being a Wave Controller would allow me to travel with no weapons as a Scout.

You forget one thing. Sometimes, spear bearer are very far from target. So light bearer used to calculate their position. By using this calculation, spear bearer can take out Target without seeing them.

About spear bearers, it's always caught my attention in the web comic that they throw the spear and then have it again in a panel afterwards. Does the spear they throw duplicate like in a videogame and so have an infinite amount of the same spear once equiped? what happens with the ancient spear that was shown during one of the last arcs, Yama's mad dogs.

The wave controller is the only position that can climb the tower solo.

i’m 3 yrs late but I think 1 scout 2 fishermen 1 spear bearer along with 2 of each left would be the best comp. 1 scout for info the fishermen would just break anything and then there’s some pressure from the spears and then 1 wave controller who’s more dps cantered and another who’s more supportive with a frontline light bearer and a more info centered one. The general teams centralised on 3 dps with 3 major supports and 2 info gatherers. It’s a more aggressive team.

one neat thing i don't remember the anime mentioning is that the strongest combination of positions is the lightbearer and wavebearer. Was kinda bummed to see that Ani didn't really talk about that, since I felt like it was a neat thing to know when it comes to how the positions work together.

You can see the the inspiration of tower of Gods positions are inspired by the five types of correlation.

“The position names are named as such because it was originally jahaad and his team vs divine fish” :0 and I was of the assumption that SIU just had a real hard on for water themed things Fishermen => the one that fights the fish I’m so fucking stupid

So fisherman are basically "bait", Lighthouse user "enlighten" the way, and wave controlers "go with the flow". Makes sense

They say a team consisting of only a wave bearer and a lighthouse bearer are too powerful. Lighthouses are honestly very useful and are needed.

The combo is like a mind and a body.. Lightbearers tell what to do, wavecontrollers mnipulate the battefield through the sheer manipulation of the shinsoo around

For me, an ideal team composition would be 2 Wave Controllers, 2 Fishermen, 2 Light Bearers, 1 Scout and 1 Spear Bearer if we are going with 8. I wouldn't have less than 2 wave controllers because of the whole more baang is better. Of course this is discluding Bam being on the team. That man later on is easily 4 Wave Controllers put into 1.

You know I reread the TOG story multiple times but still don't completely understand the positions I just read through, so this is nice.

Just waiting for Bam vs Kallavan. Bam vs Andorssi season 3 isn’t even fair compared to Bam vs Andorssi season 1.
