Fun fact: that orbelisk event near the beginning? If you have an orbelisk already when you get the event, it instead offer to upgrade all your pebballs to obelisks. Of course, if your pebballs aren't level 3 then you'll have a bunch of 0/0 orbelisks and immediately lose like I did, but still potentially hilarious if you can quickly upgrade them

Yeah… I made that same mistake…

You’re travelling down an empty board, question marks all around. The squelch of slimes can be heard in the distance. Further down the track a figure lurks. The path gets shorter and shorter. Pebble after pebble weighs you down, but still you collect more. You have reached the end of the path, the lumbering form of Betsy the Leshy creeps into frame. Is that the Forest Boss, or are you on… a Mystery Quest!

I would Love to be on Mystery Quest, But as an American I think they'd have to cart in one of those school TV trolleys, My Face on it like a brain in a jar, hell, If you find a Futurama setting Ill be a brain in a jar, Play myself lmao

My gods, the speed of the healing at 28:03 is delightfully absurd! I honestly have to just gush about this run. Having Tom defy his normal play to go all in on Pebballs just to end up with Orbelisk AND double all the orbs to kick off Stage 1 was just _ridiculously satisfying._ Taking the Infernal Ingot lifesteal relic being counterbalanced by the Cake for FINALLY keeping the Egg with that Durable Peg healing to chew through the whole of the Ballista Army really made for a stand out for Stage 2. And then our precious boy Bouldorb arrives in Stage 3 along with Popcorn, and then Tom gets the Upgrade All Pebballs after the most risky health sacrifice upgrade play, followed by the flawless Summon Orbelisk chain for that insane healing. My gods. Amazing. What a game!

Btw, if you hadn't already defeated all the ballista minions (I can't remember) there's an achievement for doing so, but achievements are disabled on custom seeds.

I know if you can tank the ballista boss long enough for all the minions to come out and die you get an achievement, but it has to be a non seeded or modified run

You could set the speed up to x3 for those longer bits with durable. Always seen you on x2. Also, I had a very neat Pebble run this past weekend. Got the same "catch the pebbles" event, then "duplicate all orbs", then the sling (all Pebbles +1/+2) and that one artifact that gives an orb +1/+1 for each orb following of the same type. And eventually an Overwhammer, which was the icing on the cake.

5:45 the saddest thing about deckbuilders is that in most of them you want to make your deck as small as possible which is really too bad. Part of the reason Balatro is great honestly

It's totally possible to make a deckbuilder where it's okay to have a large deck, it's just everyone's too busy being Slay the Spire. For instance, not being able to reshuffle your discard pile (or applying severe penalties if you have to-- let's say, in Peglin, you skip 4 turns if you run out of orbs in your deck, instead of just 1), or giving the player a lot of shuffling and redrawing (for isntance, if peglin gave you 2 skips per turn by default, instead of just 1). I will say Monster Train's pretty good for allowing you to build a big deck! It's a sort of tower defense game, where, if you summon a minion, its card is removed from your deck. It also rigs the draw system so that you draw certain minions guaranteed each turn. If you don't have enough minions in your deck, you genuinely just cannot win, since that's a pretty large source of damage, too.

@@LaughingThesaurus I mean, small decks are not even that good in StS. Sure it's fun to put together a tiny deck that cycles quickly and one shots bosses, but it's far less consistent run to run than building a larger deck that has all the tools you need. Look at players like Jorbs who have ludicrously high winrates for A20 Act 4. He regularly has 35-40 card decks.

Great to see Tom playing with a large ball-sack. If only we could also get some videoes of failed runs, with maybe multiple runs a video.

I just did a run and got basically every bomb related perks. I killed the dragon by sending hundreds of bombs for like a solid 3s of bomb throwing animation.

Tom finally uses the most powerful relic in the game. You love to see it.

The thing is though, since it uses a set seed, every random event will always be exactly the same every time you play it. The events use the same random seed as far as I'm aware, and when you have a choice between two random events, it is only the illusion of choice, because they generate the event using the current seed, the spaces aren't pre-generated on map loading. So going full right would give the same results as going full left.

I wish this game had a relic where you could swap your ball rather than discard it. It would make that summoning orb ridiculous

I'd love if there was a way to make each area twice as long or something like that.

Somehow all question marks made it less fun because you got fewer relics than usual. There was one relic I was really hoping you'd get: Hero's backpack. It buffs your orbs based on how many consecutive orbs of the same type you have. It does have an anti-synergy with Summoning Circle though, it works best if your sack is full of just peballs, for example.

We desperately need an endless mode!

Personally love the special life steal relic (that halves your hp). Has always done me good. Unlike the friggin gift that keeps on giving, which has just ruined some of my runs, and is generally more of a nuisance than helpful.

I shall consider this a bloat build if you don't do a run where you just accept an orb every time they're offered
