I get the feeling many of these filming mistakes (and others not here) were spotted by the editor - he is an A-list movie editor - but were allowed to stay because it would simply be too expensive too reshoot, and one would have to go frame-by-frame in very slow time to actually see them. Except for the white car, I caught a glimpse of that when I watched it in '95.

The reason there is no bridge in that scene,is because those who live in Stirling used the bridge to commute, so signed a petition for it not to be used in the movie ( and they won) so the famous Stirling Bridge was not used in the movie for that scene

Let me start off by saying Braveheart was a very entertaining movie, especially when it came out. At the time, nothing like the cavalry charge had ever been seen on the screen, despite its imperfections. While many of the errors noticed here are trivial movie mistakes, I feel the more important ones relate to ignoring actual history to promote a narrative. The biggest example is the depiction of an Englishman taking a Scottish bride, even though this never happened in history, but also including no bridge at the "Battle of Stirling Bridge", crediting Wallace with inventing the long pike after looking at trees and 3 seconds' reflection, even though pikes date back to Alexander's time, etc. etc. The writer of Braveheart, when confronted with all the inaccuracies, once said, " I think we shouldn't let FACT [meaningful pause]...get in the way of TRUTH [knowing look]". I cannot imagine a more self-contradictory statement. If your "truth" is hindered by the facts, then guess what! It isn't truth! People watched this movie, got all pissed off, started a movement to separate Scotland from the UK, which fortunately failed last year. To quote an insightful song: "where there is one, they're bound to divide it right in two". Needless division and strife over an inaccurate representation. I realize that many Scots still hate the English, but maybe it's time for some examination and reflection on these feelings, and whether they benefit anything or anybody. The same people that cry out against war are so often exactly the ones who can't keep the peace!! The importance of "truth", and what it really means and represents, should be taken way more seriously in Hollywood. Anyways, great breakdown, glad you took the time to do this.

JTKinetic Flo Thanks for your comment. You make very valid points. When I first started looking into mistakes in Braveheart, I found a lot of extensive websites commenting on how history got "butchered" in the movie. I understand that movies are for entertainment and are given some liberties because of the story line, but at the same time movies can spread misinformation and that is taken lightly in Hollywood. I'm sure that many people watched this movie and thought that a lot of the things portrayed were generally accurate. I know I did, partially because of laziness in researching the actual history of the Scots/English conflict. I've come to realize that the "Based on true events" is really a joke with some movies really stretching that meaning to the extreme. Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. Much appreciated.

This is such a silly comment. There has been tension between Scotland and England for a lot longer than Braveheart has been out. Secondly, if you're too stupid to know the difference between films and real life, perhaps you shouldn't be watching them. At no point in Braveheart does it say "based on a true story." Art is not obligated to dumb itself down for the audience.

I’ve actually noticed quite a few of these, but for some I wouldn’t count them as mistakes. Why are some of the blood effects considered mistakes when some of those were probably the best effects of the time? The movie came out in 1995, so mistakes like #53’s a 1995 bloodstain is kind of to be expected... Btw, you could have mentioned that Mel Gibson himself confirmed he felt he was too old for the role, which is why “the years were not kind” to him in #11.

As much as the historical inaccuracies annoy me, the excuse of it being a fictional film and not a documentary could be vaguely acceptable. What seriously annoys me is the amount of glaringly obvious continuity errors! I mean okay, one or two is normal in a film, but surely somebody has the job of checking for such things? If I made such a hash of my job I'd be fired! I'm sure films with massive budgets could afford to hire someone purely to spot such terrible continuity errors before release, and if they did for this film I wonder what (if anything) happened to them when all the errors were revealed after release?

There's so many historical inaccuracies in this film. 1) Wallace's father was named Alan not Malcolm. 2) War paint was not used by anyone in this period. 3) Wallace and Queen Isabella never even met in reality. Wallace died in 1305 and Isabella wasn't born until 1295. 4) Edward 1st died in 1307, two years after Wallace died. 5) Althouth Piers Gaveston was exiled from England by Edward 1st, he was not thrown out of a window. He actually outlived Edward 1st by five years. William Wallace was probably an insignificant figure in Scotish independance. There was an independance movement already happening in Scotland before the emergence of William Wallace.

Wallace, because of his rebellion, executed with a very vicious way.He was a man who died for his country's freedom and this is the only thing that we should remember and not if on this scene we can see a capricorn behind the soldiers.Of course, Wallace did crimes too but when you invade in a country what do you expect? To treat you like a friend? The truth is propaganda?Turks did worst in my country. How to deny that? By saying "we didn't rape, stole and kill the Greeks?". And something else. I really don't have any problem with England. I lived there once and I made friends. As you said, all empires in history, destroyed everything so the problem is not the people but their leaders.I don't know about the others, but I will not hate a whole nation because of a movie.I only say that we cannot refuse the war and the evil within it.

I think it is important for people to realize that minor continuity errors and mistakes such as the ones in this video are inevitable. Making a film is VERY DIFFICULT, and a film set is a fast paced environment! It is easy to criticize things such as historical inaccuracies and continuity errors when the only contribution you made to the film was paying 10 bucks to sit on your ass for 2 hours. Mel Gibson and the hundreds of other cast and crew invested several months of long labor intensive days to give you the experience that they did. It makes me VERY ANGRY when people make videos like this. It looks like they are trying to ruin movies - movies that people worked very hard on; movies that I really like and many other people really like - simply because they think it will give them short term popularity and KZread views. In my opinion, there is nothing more arrogant and selfish than trying to tarnish the hard work of others for selfish gain. If you are a person who hates movies with continuity errors and movies with historical inaccuracies fine! Just understand that there are people with different opinions and people who really enjoy these movies despite all of that. Keep this in mind the next time you want to make a video like this. Keep in mind all of the people who worked hard on the movie and all of the people whose cinematic experiences you are ruining.
