one slight correnction, the c2's where leased (not bought) in 2008 from mulhouse, because the livery cound not be changed (cos they where leased) they added the bumble bee stickers. then in 2013 the vic governmend bought them outright, meaning they could have the ptv livery added. Great video tho. you should also deffinently do one on the new g class trams that will enter service in a few years

I ❤ 🚂🚃🚄🚅🚈🚞🚝 I have a folder on ''transportation'' thank you chou chou chouuuu :)) --------------------------------------- Btw, here's something you may find interesting. :) The name of my country has nothing to do with the interesting and delicious bird ''turkey'', well let me explain. :) Name of my country has always been Turkiye, that is Turk-iye, where the -iye suffix means ''land of/belonging to''... ...just like the Latin suffix -ia in such countries as Latv-ia, Roman-ia, Eston-ia, Austr-ia, Austral-ia etc etc. Another example; decades ago Czechoslovakia Republic changed it's name to Czech Republic and a few years ago changed that to Czechia (that is Czech-ia). Anyways, most likely the Latin -ia suffix was derived from the Turkish version -iye, as Turkish is much much older. Because in old times people of different languages could only pronounce it as their languages allowed them, we got various differences in spelling like Turchia (in Italian), Turquie (in French) and Turkey (in English) all trying to resemble the pronounciation of ''Turk-ia'' thus Turkiye. Mind you this was way BEFORE the animal we currently know as 'turkey'' was found by the europeans when they explored the north americas.... ...they came across the bird and thought it was a specie of the fowl/chicken they had been buying from the country of Turkiye at the time, so they named the bird ''Turkey Fowl'' meaning ''Turkish Chicken''..... ....just like how a dog breed is known as German Shepherd (because it's from Germany), Rhodesian Ridgeback (because it's from Rhodesia), American Bulldog, British Terrier, Greek Harehound etc etc. In time you don't get to call the Greek Harehound as simply as ''Greek''; or you don't call the British Terrier as ''British''; or the German Shepherd as ''German'', but in time the Turkish Fowl started to be called just ''turkey'', and has been going on for hundreds of years. Now in 2023, this is causing confusion, especially when we have people across the world unable to point to their OWN country on the atlas, this ''confusion over the naming'' needed to be corrected. So my country decided to rectify this confusion that has been going on for so long and corrected the name in other languages to Türkiye, which it always was, we basically didn't change the name of our country, we changed the mistake made in the English language. : ) So, there's some tid bit information for you to have a great day, if you read upto this point you have a great night too, ohh just have a wonderfull life. : ) Best wishes. ;)

It's very frustrating with how many A's and B's are still in the network. Makes some lines entirely inaccessible as a wheelchair user, even when the actual stops are raised up to give level boarding to a tram that won't arrive for another 2-7 years

I still remember using the E tram for the first time. I'd always exclusively used the B and C1 because of my area, but I went to the city and caught a train to John Cain arena. When the route 86 finally got the go ahead for these new E-class trams, a problem soon occurred. At Tyler Street Preston, which is on a rather sharp bend, these new trams were to long for the tiny stop there, which really was just a partitioned of piece away from the road traffic. So, that stop no longer is on service (this is on the outbound direction to Bundoora)

C1 is my favourite , for the screens . I really really love having MORE information inside the tram and its so much better knowing where you're going ahead of time without having to just know the area or check your phone or scan the surroundings . A great public transport network should give you that information easily imo . I also love the W class just for their historical charm . Wish they would add more information screens to the latest class or to the next class of trams .

The other issue with the D1 and D2 that goes with the seat issue. Because the bogie was literally dumped on the body. It doesn’t pivot as the tram turns corners making it horrible for all on board, and they climb the rail if driven too fast. Unlike the Z,AB,C and E trams which all have a bogie that pivots as the tram corners making it a smoother ride.

the western suburbs developed much later than the east, pretty much anything west of Maribyrnong was just farmland with St Albans being a country town until the 1950s, which was when the tram network stopped expanding and new development was built for cars and not public transport. They will be getting new trams soon, the new G class tram design was showcased, annoyingly, right after I made this video

Some other observations: Z3s still get used on the 58 and 59 as well (albeit less frequently on the 59) Saw an A1 (IIRC, could be A2) run a 58 tram earlier this year but that may well have been a one-off. E1/E2 trams get used on 57 Showground Specials (which is why they run express, since the Safety Zone stops can't fit them). The old short SZ stops are also probably partly why 57 is exclusively Z3.

A while back i worked on a c1 citadis tram for a repair job on the crash structure in the front bumper. It was very annoying because all the steel grades were from over seas and the only viable local equivelant was too thick. Also we didnt have much drawings with actual numbers on it from yarra trams so we had to 3D scan and use logical deductions to find out which measurements were good and which were not (the structure was warped from the crash so we couldnt rely in the scan). If you ever ride on a c1 citadis then i may have worked on it :D

Apart from the correction regarding the C2 class, the the screen and button on the doors and in beside the doors of the Z class were originally to open the doors once the door once the tram had stopped that would light and then you could press the button to allight the tram, also note there is a large bacon area at the front of Z class trams, and this was a place for the conductor to sit (I can't recall if a class and B class had these). This was removed about 5 years after conductors were removed. One extra point, both the D-class and C1-class, the D-class had a major issue with cracking of the frame, which meant that it has lost a number of seats, and the C1-class has had one major issue, which I believe has been resolved, and that is that it has caused driver RSI, the other is is atrocious ride, it rocks, side side, which is most noticeable, going down the hill along Barker Road down to the river, then again along Victoria Parade, this is as well as having a sweet spot that if it will derail the tram, which sent it into a number of gardens.

If they've had those LED displays since their introduction then thats very impressive and im surprised they haven't been used since on Melbournes newer trams. I wonder if they inspired the use of LED displays on newer trains around the world like the Thameslink Class 700 which operate near me in London.

G Class trams are planed to start at 2025 and there are plans for 2 types. A short one and a little longer type. The short types will replace the Z and A Class on routes with not so many traffic.

@@peterausfranken the G-class tram, the 25 m vehicle will be standard, there is only a possibility that they will order a longer vehicle in future, but the may to put on routes like the 75 where there is long distances to travel and minimal interaction with other vehicles.

So backward. No wonder Melbourne public transportation costs are so overblown. NO comparison to China's public transportation systems
