🇯🇲 I caught Chikungunya (nicknamed Chik-V) when I was 19 and it was NOT fun. I was absent from Uni for a whole month because I couldn't move. Going to the bathroom was a bigger pain, first I could stagger slowly to the bathroom, then I'm stuck in bed. Peeing in a small bucket was the only solution. Tossing and turning while sleeping hurts, and it gave some flu like symptoms with it. That was the worst illness I ever caught.......until covid hit me...

During the Great Plague, different strains of the plague caused distinct symptoms. There are three types of plague: Bubonic Plague: This form of plague spreads when people are bitten by fleas that live on rats. It is characterized by painful, swollen lymph nodes (buboes) and fever. Pneumonic Plague: This type affects the lungs and can be transmitted through respiratory droplets. It leads to severe respiratory symptoms and can be rapidly fatal if not treated promptly. Septicaemic Plague: This form occurs when the bacteria enter the bloodstream directly. It can cause blood clotting, tissue damage, and organ failure. These three strands of plague have played significant roles in history, including during the devastating Black Death pandemic in medieval Europe between 1347 and 1351

I also had a scarlet fever as a toddler but can't remember how I was feeling. But I remember the time when I had whooping cough (which is not on the list) , it's name may be funny but this disease is horrible.

I also caught scarlet fever in primary shool. Fortunately, it was a rather mild strain, but it gave me the worst and most rapid changes from freezing to feeling all heated up due to high fever I can remember. I was wearing nothing but briefs, but had several warm blankets to my disposition. My temperature sensation was so fluctuating I could hardly sleep... Also lots of my peers caught it too. And I likely won't forget about it that easiliy. Because scarlet fever is one of the diseases that doctors always ask for when doing assessments. At least where I live.

3:26 Smallpox devastated North America as well (strange thing to miss in this series) and it did not require extended close contact with infected persons because the British seeded *food and blankets with the disease and handed them out as gifts* to the indigenous tribes. This disease has officially been eradicated in the world. It remains the only such pandemic agent to have been. 6:05 Clinical trials have progressed to the human stage for malaria and is showing great promise in young children! Yay!) 10:14 Scarlet fever was also a scourge in the US. It is the disease responsible for making Helen Keller deaf and blind.

Scarlett fever/strep also damages your heart. I once took care of a patient with rheumatic heart disease in the early 90s and it was remarkable because they were 55 years old and still alive. I also took care of a post polio patient who slept every nite in an iron lung. Those things are as heavy as a car! I swear they it dusted off and brought it in from a museum.

Levant is not a French island, it's the name for the historical region of the Eastern Mediterranean and the Near/Middle East (i. e. modern day Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Iraq and so on). The word "levante" is of Italian/Venetian origin, meaning "rising" (as in "where the Sun rises," meaning East) and corresponds roughly to the Arabic term "al-Mashriq"

Covid is a pandemic while all of these sicknesses are epidemics. Pandemic = an epidemic of an infectious disease that has spread across a large region, for instance multiple continents or worldwide, affecting a substantial number of individuals. Epidemic = An epidemic is a disease that spreads rapidly among many people in a community at the same time.

Everything about Sherlock Holmes. BBC Sherlock, especially. Series three and four threw everything out the window, mashed a new character in there, killed off a just introduced character, and assasinated the consulting dumbasses. Also in general Sherlock's whole personality doesn't match the original novels. Never does.
