Yup. The very thing that made them the company they are now they absolutely avoid: risks. They take zero risks with new sets and resort to their IP’s for profit. It’s such a real shame.

I'm sad I'll never be able to get those older ships with the minifigs. LEGO Pirates are some of the coolest sets all around.

I wish they'd do more unlicensed stuff, castle, western, resurrect the old space sets too, star wars can just be an extra space theme. At least ninjago is pretty cool

@@84cch It should've been the opposite, Pirates with the small and fast ships, Imperials with the heavy armoured, but often slower ships.

@@84cch Yeah that's definitely the reason. If you're more into ships than having the official set, you can part it out and change some colours to make it less expensive. Personally I'm just getting back to building the sets from my childhood and I've got the first one they did, but when I'm done sorting everything I might try to build myself one in digital designer and then buy it on bricklink.

@@84cch I always wanted to get a second Black Sea Barracuda and mod it to be an equal imperial ship. Same size with different colors and a few different features.

I know! It's annoying that this guy has so much money that he's wasting it on stuff he himself thinks is awful and then flaunting that he has more stuff at conventions and online. What a jerk. Also, I agree, the Silent Mary is the best looking ship here.

I have the original Barracuda and Im so glad I preserved it with the box and instructions for my kids

Wouldn´t it be great to have both styles in one set? and give it the opportunity to transform with a kinda modular building ... would make all happy. the guys that like the ghotship and the guys that like an old spanish ship...

@Brandon King I guess, it really comes down to an opinion but if you think the smaller ones are ok that’s fine. I just don’t they compare to Skull Eye’s or the Barracuda. The 2015 is very juniorized compared to the 2009 and other ships of the standard size. Also although Pirate Ship is the creator one.

The Caribbean Clipper is the one I saw in the store when I was a kid, thought it was really cool but probably expensive so I told my parents that I want this for my birthday and it was months away, they surprised me on the day when I had completely forgotten that I told them and it was really wonderful that they got it for me. I'll never forget this memory.

Wow this brings back memories. I was lucky to have the original Barracuda when I was a child. Fun times!

I had the Barracuda when I was a kid, such a great lego set. The first big set i'd ever had. Great memories opening it for Christmas then getting some more lego for my birthday later in the afternoon

Building a custom Walrus from Black Sails right now. Currently 9 ship hulls long with hinged side walls. LDD is awesome

Loved this video. It would be amazing if lego would come out with a massive "good guy" french looking ship or something for older builders with tons of detail and whatnot. That'd be amazing

Only got the "Schwarzhai" from 1989 when I was a kid, for christmas. And I loved it :-) Can't see any other ship getting on that standard, it just does what a good ship needs to do to play an interesting pirate story.

As much as I loved looking at the ships, I was spending just as much time eyeing the forts in the background!

I'm also rather surprised that he didn't mention the re-release of Red Beard Runner in 2001

I have that first one still, and this video made me put it together again. Turns out i even had the original manual. Awesome set.

The only one I disagree with is the silent marry I mean yea it is hard to pick up but it is a master piece with all the detail

I had the first three ships plus a handful of the pirate/imperial bases, takes me back lol 😎

on the UK and Europe imperial ship and the smaller pirate boat we had working compasses on both that told you the direction instead of a printed tile one that the USA ones seem to have.

My friend got the original ship back when we where 6 (30 years ago). I wasn’t allowed to help him build it as it was a project between him and his dad. Once it was built we played for hours and hours. A couple of year ago I picked up the release for the brick beard Daniel said was aimed more at younger kids. My inside 6 year old self was delighted and the 36 year old me had fun building it. I’ve now got it set up in my living room (someone changed the flags on me while I was at work but it was a compromise I could live with).

Great collection! I agree the Red Beard Runner is pretty gimmicky but where the front mast hinges from side to side move the two yellow 2x2 plates to the left one stud. This stops the mast moving around so much when it's "locked"

When I was a kid my folks were relatively middle class, we all got multiple presents around Christmas and birthdays. So Christmas of '89 I only got one present, the black seas barracuda and I think I got more playtime out of that than anything else ever, aside from other legos. Now as an adult I finally have the Imperial Flagship, but am still trying for the Black Seas Barracuda again

I had the barracuda and the first 2 "good guys ships". I had a great time with those!

Pirate ship sets were always my favorite to build in the 80s. I used to use my own flat/off pieces to extend the ships even longer. Could never get em to float in the bathtub though :(

Fill the hull full of liquid nails and it'll float, it'll just never come apart again..

I longed for the original pirate ship as a kid too. I had the Govenors fort, but never the pirate ship. I remember looking at the catalogue photos for hours! Got the Imperial flagship in 2010 as compensation.

Same here, I had only the (awesome) fort and some other small sets, but not any sailing ships. Pirates could only do sneak attacks on the fort in their rowing boats ... :-)

The Barracuda was the best Lego pirate ship ever built!!!! :-) ... LEGO, please bring back that brilliant Pirate's stuff!!!!

Wow, the Renegade Runner was quite small :D When i got it as a kid it was the biggest lego piece i've ever owned :O

What's up with the printed compass pieces? All of mine are working mini compasses.

These are great sets! I have most of them but the ones I dont have are too pricey for me to pick up lol. Hopefully I'll find them cheap one day haha. Great video and GREAT ships! Love this video

Question is how many of them has a low enough center of balance to float? Cause I know with those Hull pieces they can float for a time if the sails don’t tip them

I still have my Renegade Runner from more than 30 years ago. Now, some things got lost over the years, and I had to make some modifications, but she's still around. The Armada Flagship I still have completely intact, although I changed it so the mizzen mast doesn't fall over.

I loved the pirate series, I collected a lot of those pieces when I was a kid and they came out. I have the original pirate ship :D

Does the parts list on Bricklink assume you are starting from scratch. Do you have a separate parts list that lists the additional parts needed if you already have the original Lego set?

The Clipper were actually the 'bad guys', Captain Broadside was the real enemy, there is an actual story to these sets and characters.

I’ve got a set of blue and white sails but not all the bits for the full ship build so do you want them.

A new pirate theme would be so cool! Hell they could call it merchants of the seas as long as they made old sail boats with cannons

If i had known that imperial flagship came out in 2010, i wouldn't have spend that much money on 2 brickbeard bounties and several canon sets. But now i'm fine with it cause i customized it and now have of an imperial ship. Thats the nice thing about lego: if you are not happy with a set you can always modify it :)

Î somehow feel like the Redbeard Runner, with the collapsing mast, looks kinda cool, even its colour sheme. I think I'll pick this one up and modify the few parts I don't like. But designwise the skull in the back is really cool and red white yellow and blue work nicely together in this design imo...

How did I miss the Imperial Flagship in 2010? I've never seen it until now and kind of wish I hadn't.

I have the original Imperial Flagship and noticed that this one on the video doesn't have the original compass on it. The original had a "real" turning compass.

funny, I love the silent mary, it was even my favourite set for a while, over temple of airjitzu and tower of orthanc. though the only other big pirate ship I have is the LOTR one.

Well i do like how the Silent Mary looks i do agree it breaks apart way to easy. I have to keep it on a high shelf above all the other legos so the little guy doenst break it.

I love these videos I think I got the pirate ship and my brother got the 'goodie' ship. Mum still has them and has been sorting them out. I am going to remake all the sets.

I'm from the UK (in Europe) and it was the Black Seas Barracuda here. Actually, this video is the first time I've ever heard it called the Dark Shark.

I have build my own 80's pirate ship, its a baracuda with 1 extra hull piece and with more yellow pieces and made it a bluecoat ship. I called it the carribean flower. I have a few pictures on the 80's 90's lego Facebook group.

Beyond the Brick could you tell me what was the name of his favorite ship, I might want it. Thank You!
