Ya, I hear ya about this darkness, it's no fun driving to work in the dark and driving back in it! What a life. I retired 4 years ago. I absolutely love it! I get to go anywhere I want, anytime I wanna go. You should do it! Retire! But at least you go out and explore really often. Even more than me. But in Ohio it's a little colder here than your southern state. Course you know, you came from NY. Thanks for showing us Uhwarrie! It's between the places I travel. But always wanted to check it out! I am amazed how many people are still out this time of year! It's nice. Thanks for your videos! (ps) the sign you paused at showed those were all non electric sites.

Thanks for the great Comment Susan. We will survive until the sun comes back, and then we will have even more fun. I may retire in October, or maybe I will wait one more year. I just need to maintain my sanity!! Have a great Holiday season!

@@GoingNoWhereFast As a recent retiree, I hear you re the staying sane. But make sure you have paid off all loans and have got what you need in big items, car , camper, boat whatever before retiring. It's surprising how the money diminishes once you don't have a regular paycheck or pension after you quit working. My pension isn't enough but I have a couple of rental homes that get me by comfortably. Once you do retire , i look forward to more videos of Aliner travels with Akela the Canine King of North Carolina camping and stick hiking..

Hey, Rick, We did the Uwharrie off road trails on Veterans Day weekend, and also drove the gravel roads just to enjoy the area. We checked out Yates Place and the Hunt Camp for next time. It was beautiful and we plan to get back soon. Hope y'all got to the Eldorado Outpost.

You have discovered one of North Carolina's best parks. It's in Montgomery County along NC 109. If you head South on NC 109 into Troy you will come to NC 24 take that West to Albemarle and you will see signs for Morrow Mountain State Park. The only North Carolina park with a swimming pool. Uhwarrie is pronounced with a silent "H" U-warrie. At the South end of the park along NC 24 is an entrance to backpacking and mtn. biking area. I have camped there many times but the park is taken over by the off roading crowd on the week ends and I will say they are somewhat well behaved not too much partying and loud noise. On your way to Arrowhead if you were to go right at the road split is the road to group camping really nice area but reserved for large groups. Uhwarrie is also unique in that it has a gun range with trained firearms experts monitoring the range at all time when it's open. I have not boondocked there yet but I will next time I go. I'm a retired bridge inspector for the NC DOT and I had the pleasure of inspecting all the bridges in Uhwarrie and scheduled my inspections to be there for several hours.Early fall is the best time to experience Uhwarrie. Glad you enjoyed the area and sorry for being so long winded I just love being in Montgomery and Stanly County! (Morrow Mountain State Park)

Thank you Alan ! It is always nice to get the locals perspective. I actually did a video of Marrow Mtn SP last year. Like this one it was a quick drive through on a day hike in the area. It is a great place. Hope I can camp there this weekend, though it appears all the reserve-able sites are taken. I'm going to assume that means there will be significant competition for the FCFS sites!

I had a pretty bad experience at Badin Lake. People with a big old RV ran a very old generator from7am to 9.30 pm. It sounded like a plane engine and even even when kayaking in the middle of the lake, I could hear the sound coming from the campground..The host said he could not do anything about it. Some other people ran a generator the whole night, They switched it off for a bit when the camp host told them it was not allowed but put it back on soon after… their generator was not as noisy as the first people but still disturbing for someone with sleep problems… otherwise, nice campground…

Its a risk we take when we go to campgrounds with Large sites and no hookups. Just my experience, but it happens the most around lakes that are popular with fisherman. Sorry you had that experience. You should have just gone to the other side of the National Forest and found a nice quiet dispersed camping spot (Dragging their Generator With you!!)!!

The National Forest part is 79 square miles(50,000 acres), of which about half is managed for hunting & Fishing by NC , and then there is Marrow Mountain State Park right next to it. So it covers a lot of things through adjacent lands. Ya, when this pandemic is over, I'll have to decide what I want to do.... I don't want to have any money left when I die !!

The campground rates have gone way up since I was at Badin Lake two years ago. Then it was $12. Uwharrie is also a great place to pan for gold if you are into that sort of thing.

Gold Sounds good !! Working Hard for it is a detractor though. The Signs look fairly Ancient for the fees, and the hunt camp is only $5. I wonder if you had a pass to make it half price last time you were there?

  • @Photo-Voyager

@@GoingNoWhereFast I actually paid $6 with my pass. That was for a non-electric site. The US Forest Service has been raising rates in a lot of campgrounds. It's also possible that they turned Badin Lake over to a private company. That always makes the rates go up.

Great detailed tours of the campgrounds. It is always nice to know what the amenities are like and how much room is between the sites. Those rock climbing vehicles are amazing the way each wheel can “feel” it’s way over obstacles. I hope you and Akela get to go back and camp in area that you covered in this video. Looks like a very interesting place.

I hope you were able to put out that fire out when you found it. I found one up at Price Lake that was fully burning and unattended. I didn't have enough water to quench it but told one of the rangers who finished it off.
