Part II: -the bored bassist -the groove machine -the Paul McCartney (contrapuntal melodies) -the "picked up bass because it's more macho" -the creeper (keeps moving closer to drummer) -the SLAPPER -strummer (strums chords instead of picks) -the coked bassist (fast, flashy '80s pop, like Duran Duran) -the jazzmaster (jazz bassist) -the lazy bassist (thought it was easiest part of being in a band) -the mastermind bassist (secretly writes all the music and runs the band, like Beach Boys' Brian Wilson)

It's a mix between Memes and Mastery (Davie504) -The Mad Scientist: Experiments with everything: Bows, effects, Talkboxes and what not (Charles Berthoud) -The Influencer: The Name is not much known, but he/she played on almost every succesful Album in history and the Influence not only on Bass, but Music in history is so suprisingly big it's scary (Carol Kaye) -The Black Person: The South Park joke about Black People knowing on how to play bass from heart is proven true whe they play (Gail Ann Morsley, Bootsy Collins, Victor Wooten, Verdine White, Douglas Wimbish, the List goes on..) -The Tapper: Somebody needs to tell him/her that that's a bass not a piano (Billy Sheehan, Stuart Ham) -The Singer (Geddy Lee, Suzi Quatro, Tom Araya,...) PS: Excuse me for constantly writing He/She. My annoying SJW Cousin saw me writing that Comment and told me it's offensive only saying "he". As a drummer you can't forget "the creeper"... those are the bass players that start out in the front of the stage and slowly creep closer to the drums as the night goes on... by the 4th set they're basically right next to your ride cymbal.

The drummer and I (on bass) would set up on stage first and be right next to each other. He had no problem with me hanging out next to the hi-hat. I found that to see his kick drum pedal and mallet really helped me lock into the beat. SEEING him play the tune added another level of 'locking in'. We were always on the same page. Sometimes I would thump the strings to sound like the kick. We would sync some beats in a tune where I thump the strings and add depth to his kick sound. He loved it!
As a bassist, I feel attacked in the best way. Us bassists want to be the Mike Dirnt but we end up as the out of tuner.
Some say the bassist stalling for time is still playing on the same stage at the same show to this very day

I watched a 10000 Maniacs concert video, and the bassist was talking to the crowd in-between songs: "A bassist walks past a bar. Hey, it could happen...."
The last one is real. My first show was just a bunch of friends from school that put on a show in one of their garages. Called it "Freakin' Sweet Fest" had artwork on it and everything. One of the bands had a bass player that was so bad that they turned his bass down so no one could hear it. Funny enough they were in the top 3, along with my band, at the time. It was a blast. That was more than a decade ago, now.

The first group I ever played in did something similar. We'd turn the bassist right down and the keyboard player would just play the lines with his left hand.

@@shanemcguire6428 for the most part yes. It does not take skill to follow a bass line. However. You can make yourself valued by doing crazy things with the bass. Look up primus, and nexrophagist for 2 good examples. They couldn't be more different in terms of music. But the bass players are incredible.
the "tried out for guitar, didn't make it" hit me to the core
At this point the “not even plugged in” might as well be the norm since we never actually get to hear the bass in music… Bass vs Guitar is underwhelming because it gets less attention and some even consider it “useless”. Quite sad, the bass is a part of the backbone

The bassist who is stalling for time is literally Mike Dirnt. I remember one concert, Billie went around the stage telling stories and Mike eventually was just laying on his back playing the same note over and over again.
Stalling for time is the Mike Dirnt

Totally agree with you bro. Only Mike Dirnt has his own level.
The happy bassist is one of the rarest form of bassist out there

The happy bassist was mostly happy that the band actually wanted a bassist.
“I will beat you senseless with this thing if you jump up on stage.”
how do you get this bass tone? I can always get *almost* there but I can never get the perfect tone that I want, and you nailed it.
Things I learned today: 1. All bassists use picks. 2. My tone sucks and no one wants to tell me.
I absolutely think i love the Mike dirnt
Loved them all, but I agree with Lauren Sweetman...the "Mike Dirnt" was the best, and my fav! Loved how you also included the shirt with cut off sleeves at the shoulders as well, classic Mike D! 😎
missing - the band director (calling out hits, go back to head) - the zen player (eyes closed) - the slap and only slap player - you have how low would also add the how high can i have the bass (extreme elbows up player) - the bass soloist - the big muff is always on player - flabby drop tuner (blame korn for this) - there's more... but this is a good group to add

The Angry Bassist, also known as The Metal Bassist. The reason why he's angry is because the bass is too quiet in the mix.

awesome video and sick bass playing dude
“Bass Is Not Even Plugged In”. Lol. I did this once at a show. My cable clicked into the jack, but it wasn’t completely plugged in. This threw me off, and so for the first couple songs, I was cutting in and out at like 50% volume. It was frustrating too because, it was our first time playing White Room - Cream, and that song has some great bass-runs.
I love how Mike Dirnt is a category on itself
You forgot the jazz bassist with his bass strapped up high on his chest.
the "how low can you go" is Robert Trujillo
You should've called the first one "The Cliff Burton"
So true, don't forget the slap happy bass player.
I love how Mike gets his own category 😂
I think the last one is more of not turning the volume knob on more than being unplugged. Speaking from personal experience myself. There has been a few times that the band has started the song and my volume is all the way off. Usually the nights where there is a ground problem and I shut my bass off between songs to get rid of the ground noise.
sid vicious was a combo of 1st, 2nd, and 10th

Is that the GC Ocean Turquoise Player P? I have that same bass!
I had my final highschool music performance night a few months ago. Thankfully my two pieces (guitar and bass) were fine, but when I was playing bass for a friends song I forgot to plug in the entire time, I was so confused as to why it wasn't working. Thankfully it wasn't a big part of the song and the piano mainly housed all of the bass notes.
I normally cycle through the happy bassist, the drunk bassist, and the Mike Dirnt in the course of a song, in no particular order.
I have to say, you did a great job of making every bassist look the same. That is what music is about. Great message. Bring everyone together. We are all the same.
