    Agree 100%. Even with my very good gal I occasionally pick a day where I only stop using one particular cue (voice, seat or rein) and get *very picky* about the response I get. Most of the time I just pick a cue or pair of cues at random, but every now and then I focus on one and polish it sharp.

    I think you are the first trainer ( or rider) I have ever heard that talks about the importance of controlling the shoulder. Now that I have been watching your videos for a couple of months I can really see the benefits. I have always stopped my horses by word or they stop when they can feel me stop asking them to go ( i guess) as I don't have to pull back on the reins unless we are having one of "those" days.

    As always great info......riding mechanics are critical. And yes, too many riders want to use the horses mouth to stop and even for balance.....

    Agree 100 percent! My horse does really well moving shoulders over moves hindquarters over side passes all with ease. Stopping is just not there very forward more go then whoa. Definitely will be working more on his Stopping and the verbal command whoa. He drops his head behind the vertical his go to move when asked to stop. Your videos have been super helpful I've learned a lot.

    As usual, great information! I really wish I had the knowledge I've gained watching your videos, when I was riding as a teen at my aunt and uncle's. None of us really knew horses, including my aunt and uncle. When it came to riding their one mare, it was almost always a rodeo. While still in the pasture, just trying to get out of the gate, her go to move was to put her head down and take off with you and head towards the back of the pasture. I'd get her turned around, and would start walking to the gate end, and then she'd do the same thing. She usually would head straight for the shelter....DUCK!!! The other go to move was rearing up. She never got me off of her back. Thinking about it now, I was very lucky nothing bad happened to me. Thanks Tim! ❤️🌵☀️⛈️🌈☮️🐎

    I watch and admire. everyone who loves horses should try to ride your horses at least once. and it would be clear. Save. 😊

    Tim what knots do you recommend when tying your horse? Maybe you could answer this in a video like you did for the video on the bits you like to use.

    Thankyou for this, I've been teaching my horse to steer the shoulders , but she is struggling with this and fining it hard , or is unwiling to keep forwards. Do you have a video with you teaching a young horse this that will help me ?

    I work on this a lot. We need to improve it but it’s a process. Occasionally I ride him bridle-less and that is a true test.

    So true. more people should at least set the reins down on the horn to force themselves to ride with their body more. You are right, that is the true test.

    Let’s say a horse bolts, how likely is it for them to listen to leg cues controlling the shoulder ? I am sure this is dependent on the level of rider , but for an average rider ?

  • @timandersonhorsetraining

    @timandersonhorsetraining

    10 ай бұрын

    It is more dependant on the level of the training. Just like you lose training going from a trot to a lope you lose training going from a lope to gallop and a bolt. If you train your horse to stop off your seat from a wide open gallop then he will stop, if you do not train him then he will not but that is not his fault, that is the trainer's fault. The horse in this video I can run him as fast as I can make him go and he will still stop from my seat and voice when I ask him.

    @@timandersonhorsetrainingright! Funny story my older horse we've trail ridden, extreme cowboy raced, ponied, penned and run speed events. Saying whoa locks him down, so I let a teen friend run him on barrels and I stressed don't holler whoa like some people do into the barrel, it means stop not rate to him. Well, she got excited going into the last barrel and said the w word and the horse locked it down like a reiner and she fell off. Good times lol.

    I know how important the stop is had a mare I trail rode told her whoa and she'd slide to a stop. That verbal command saved my well-being one day out riding on the trail. Freind an I were running our horses down the dirt road full out fast as they could go. My horses bridle broke bit dropped out of her mouth I said whoa and she slid to a stop. Rode her home with reins used as neck rope. Good thing I had trained her to ride bridleless. Don't have her anymore passed away in 2018 at 31 years. old.

    Did you really willingly click on an educational video and then call it "mansplaining"? Isn't the definition of mansplaining "being condescending to a woman who already knows what to do and doesn't want to hear anything?" Let's see: Man? check Condescending? no Directed at a woman? no this is directed at people who want to learn Directed at someone who already knows what they're doing? no Given to someone who doesn't want to hear it? Well you clicked on it So the only thing that you have right .. Is the fact that.. oh I see
