Played here 5 years ago and got away with an 89. Maybe the coolest course I’ve played up there with the ocean course

I've played Aronimink, didn't think it was all that special. Merion on the other hand is a dream.

Unlike most course renovations, Aronimink was ruined when they removed the trees.

I think New York state has the most of the greatest courses in United States, if you consider Shinnecock Hills, national golf links of America, the Maidstone arms, and now Jack, Nicholas’s cost Peconic. And that’s just on the eastern end of Long Island. I didn’t even mention Bethpage black.

10:43 15-16 on the stimp is jus ridiculous. I mean, it makes those stories like markers sliding off the green seam almost plausible but certainly relatable.

As a proud Pittsburgher...I am biased when I call this course Golf's greatest test...but heck...it is justified.

  • @jameshoran8

It's golf's greatest test getting off the course alive if the members catch you playing by yourself even with Bob Ford's permission. The punishment meted out makes the rack in Braveheart look like a picnic. They threw me off the course and stole two of my golf clubs. Apology? Oakmont doesn't know the meaning of the word.

Another course thats been Linksified. It might be one of the first to start chopping all the trees.

This is why I don't like this garbage course. Putting a links course in Pittsburg makes no sense. They just tore down all the trees because they take too much water. Bethpage is better. Basically looks just like this but retained trees. And is not a private course for old crusty sit-to-pee types.

Ford mentions all the prior winners of the U..S. Opens held at Oakmont. However, except for one brief slip up, he never mentions Angel Cabrera, the winner of the 2007 U.S.Open held there The probable reason would be that Angel's most impressive swings did not occur at Oakmont or at any other golfing venues. The swings occured and finished with brutal strikes executed by Cabrera upon his wife and various girlfriends which Angel was rewarded with various jail sentences in both Brazil and Angel's homeland of Argentina. The 2016 winner, Dustin Johnson is mentioned as his only infraction was that he was a cocaine addict that has a penchant for fooling around with other player's wives. Ask Jimmy Walker. It certainly takes a special person to be a champion at Oakmont.

Oakmont will never be number one thank God. Any course could greens this fast with these kind of slipoes but thank God the courses don't. It's not fun, I love fast greens 12 to 13 but 14 and 15 is insane

i personally can't stand wide open courses. i prefer trees and isolated holes creating their own spaces and vistas. arboretum is more important because 99.9% of golf is looking around; if there ain't nothin to look at...

All this obsession with fast greens has ruined golf. I worked on a course for 10 years, I know how hard it is on greens to keep them fast. Plus a putt should be allowed to be hit, not barely tapped and just hope for the best. There's no skill in putting off your kitchen floor.

  • @haroldfarquad6886

That any green could run a 15-16 is nothing shy of criminal. There's fast greens, and then there's insanity. Oakmont is a beautiful track, but greens that fast are irresponsible grounds keeping. No green should ever exceed the 12-13 range, even in the toughest U.S. Open conditions. Beyond that point, you aren't playing golf, you're just praying and wishing, and that's a waste of time and a disgrace to the game.

I stopped it at 4:24 to watch Nelson and Watson duke it out. There are so many great tournaments to watch as the narrator speaks. Later, off to watch!
