if He was remembering his life in hindsight. Most likely as he grew up his parents simply stored it away as he outgrew it. In the follow up "my summer story" Randy shoots him in the ars with it as they are running down the stairs and out the house. The mother probably just put it away so no one shoots their eye out. In memory it remains his favorite gift, but its eventual outcome isn't so important.
Fun Fact: The kid making awkward comments to Ralphie in the original movie wasn't supposed to have a speaking part but Peter Billingsley playing off of him was so genuine(including the looks of disbelief) they were left in.
Well caught facts. It was a treasure trove of call backs. I loved it. They captured the 70's well. Finally a movie sequel that held true to the original. Agree. After seeing it twice and reflecting, I think it's the master stroke of the whole movie. Didn't see it coming and it works quite well.
I'm 40 years old and I still watch A Christmas Story(1983) every year at the age of 7 I was born in 83 too. Love it can't wait to watch again.
An element of this movie that hit home for my sisters and me was Ralphie losing his father so soon before Christmas. The same thing happened to us three years ago. The first Christmas without a loved one is difficult enough as it is but when it is just a little over a week after their passing it's all the more a struggle. I can tell you too how bittersweet it is to open presents and read the cards from your recently departed loved one. It's heartbreaking but at the same time makes you feel like they have pulled through for you one last time.
Love this and Thank you… great finds….I’ve noticed another one… while Ralph is in the attic, there is a quick shot of the toy fire engine truck Randy got for Christmas.
I'm so pleased with how this movie turned out. It truly felt like a love letter to the original movie and it was so satisfying how the characters were handled. I will be watching this every year along with the first one 🎄

What he meant was the original house IS a real house that exists, now as a museum, in Cleveland, OH.

Good to see somebody else didn't forget about My Summer Story 👍
All good catches. This sequel does hit home as Ralphie loses his "Old Man" right before Christmas. As with just about every holiday some family somewhere loses a member. I lost both my parents around 2 holidays. My mother after the 4th of July, she passed away on the 11th in 2016. My father before Thanksgiving on the 22nd in 2019. And just like Ralphie, I accepted the family monarch status since I'm the only boy in my family. Albeit the younger child of 3. I have a daughter of my own who is 6 years old. Unfortunately my wife passed away June 3, 2016, a month and 8 days before my mother. I cry for my loved ones around the holidays, I'm human after all. Life hasn't been kind but I press on for my daughters sake.

The Red Ryder BB gun should've been cherished by Ralphie all throughout his life.....He wanted it so badly when he was little.......The story could've had Ralphie being a collector of BB guns....That would have only had to be a small part of the film...Just a glimpse of his collection with his Red Ryder front and center........I still have my air rifle that I had when I was 12 and I cherish it as if I were still 12.......Good times.

Disagree. The idea that a 40ish man with a wife and kids keeps his BB gun (where? by his bedside?) is... kinda silly. Nope. They gave a LOT of thought about 1) to show the gun and 2) where/how. What they showed was a way to make the audience happy but not seem absurd. Ralphie still toting a BB gun around at age 42 (or, more implausibly making it into some cherished item. Maybe a shrine? Please) would've been ridiculous.
The rifle had to be handmade for the movie. They never made a model like that, before. The original gun was given to "Ralphie" by the movie's producers, forever. I've seen more than a few of these show up on YT. Go read the detailed description of what the show used and what you are seeing. The one Ralphie held in his hands is the only one in existence.
