In 15th(4:06) and 16th(4:19) goals Tuncay is asking teammates for a pass but the teammates choosing to try for a goal. But in the end Tuncay is the one who scores somehow. :) He was not choosen by the teammates but he was choosen by the gods.

Incredible talent I remember his flick & turn against Liverpool if would of scored that it would of been goal of the decade. Was simliar to bergkamp turn and flick. Classy skillful player legend for boro & turkey. Tuncay tonrs of energy.

My favourite boro player growing up. He ran for days but he had the skill to play as well, brings back nice memories when I used to go all the time with my Grandad. Quality player

Yeah, but he also had the handicap of losing the ball a lot. Pretty sure if you put it into a clip it will run longer than this one. I would prefer Kuyt because the guy is from the Dutch school.

You could see him missin tons of goals but never see him not doing his best. You see how other players run to him after every single goal. That's because of his character. He is a unique person. Tuncay and Tugay were Champions League quality players that were overlooked by bigger European Clubs. Even to this day I feel like Turkish talent isn't given enough of a shot. Maybe this current young generation, players like Cengiz, Caglar and Merih will change that perception.

Sene 2003 Sakaryada mahallede top oynuyoruz. Küçüğüz 7 yaşlarında. O zaman ilgim yok yabi futbola, futbolcuya. Bi abla çıktı çocuklar dedi Tuncay abiniz geldi yorgun ses yapmayın dedi. Tabi o zaman kimse takmazdı, herkes aaa tuncay abi mi geldi falan filan dedi millet top oynamayı unuttu. Teyzenin arkasından Tuncay abi çıktı geldi bi mahalle maçı yaptık. Hiç unutamıyorum. Belkide futbol sevgim bu sayede başladı.

The newspapers were speculating him to sailing for Milan or Arsenal, and he found himself in Middlesbrough. Such a pity for such a great player.

I remember him when he was a second division player for his and my hometown Sakaryaspor, then Fenerbahce, the Boro and the Turkish national team and there is not one memory I have of him where is long hair was not always flying in the wind. Always springting, pressing chasing and smashing them in the net. One of those legends that never got the accolades he deserved.

He was one of the last really good players in middlesbrough.

He was one of the top quality wingers in Europe . He was tenacious and gifted player with his dribbling and finishing skills. I used to watch Middlesbrough games for him and I know most football fans in Turkey were supporting Middlesbrough just because of him . I felt a pang of nostalgia , thanks for the video Middlesbrough!

@Erhan Celikay, Except he wasn't a winger. Middlesbrough were smart enough to know this guy was built to either be a shadow striker or a forward and that is how they used him. You'd have to be insane to put a guy like Tuncay on the wing. Fener playing him on the wing all those years probably stunted his development. They did the same to Burak Yilmaz I believe.

@@williamdavis9562 Sure lol Tuncay was so special... you could see him running across uninspected places of the pitch, I believe he was able to play in every position and is truly amongst rare players who were breathing soccer (fun fact: he shortly took GK's role in Euro 2008)

well as a fenerbahce fan, we were really dissappointed when he left fb and moved to boro, I remember his interview after a game" you can play awful but u cant run bad on the pitch" that was this players secret , he struggled in each match and never gave up, so passionate player and sincere,we were expecting him to make a move from boro to one of contander teams, I think his career planning was wrong, if he could do that he would have been a legend in premier leauge like tugay k.

Ben Coutinho'ya benzetiyorum Tuncay'ı hem de atletizmi çok iyiydi, Middlesbrough'da da iyi oynadı aslında ama nasıl Arsenal, Tottenham gibi takımlara gidemedi anlamadım. Bu potansiyel böyle harcanmamalıydı. Bi Arda'nın bir de Tuncay'ın dünyaca ünlü futbolcular olamamasına yanarım ☹️

At fenerbahce he was not a striker, he was right wing attacker, but he was always at the right place for the goal, that is why we loved him

@@tealeaf1215 Playing someone like him on the wing in this formative years really stunted his growth as a player. Tuncay should have never been a winger. I think Fener and BJK did this to Burak Yilmaz as well early on and almost ruined his career.

@@williamdavis9562 Burak played as a striker as well, but every time he got the ball he would be off side that was his biggest problem, and therefore they stop playing him on the front 😊

@@tealeaf1215 On BJK the guy was like 18, it would indeed take time for him to learn the ins and outs of playing striker. Everything Burak is good at made him ideal for striker and everything he was bad at made him a horrible choice for right winger. Imagine taking a guy who's biggest weakness is dribbling and technique on the right wing? It's insanity. Fener picked him up and did the same thing. Thankfully Burak's career wasn't destroyed but it almost happened. Think of how many other players careers were probably destroyed due to sheer mismanagement. I can also think of guys who had good careers but could have been so much better if they were played in the right position at a young age. Arda for example should not have been a winger on Gala. Tuncay for example should not have been a winger on Fener either. Both those guys simply weren't built for that job but because they were talented were pushed into those roles which stunted their development.
