The original was more focus on storytelling with some of the best comedians on the planet. The actual busting and effects were cutting edge at the time, and all that was needed to tell the story (and then some). Also see the original "Alien" movie - there was a total of 4 minutes of actual screentime of the alien, and it stands as one of the greatest movies of its genre of all time. The 2016 GB movie fell in with recent trends of "More CG! More pretty effects! More dumb jokes!", which is why it was forgettable at best.

Not bad At the end of Afterlife: Gimli: That still only counts as one!

Simple, the director (Paul Feig) doesn't understand the franchise. He wanted to make something that was closer in tone to Scooby Doo.

To me, the 2016 dragon ghost looks really good but the rest suck and in afterlife the ghosts look good in my opinion but the original still takes the cake for the best ghosts

Guess it depends on definition of busting. I was only counting ghosts lasso'd with proton packs and trapped (and i forgot that 2016 existed) . I forgot about the jogging one so i said 4. Slimer, scelerri bros, and the one that eats metal (jogger was just trapped though, not lasso'd as were some of the ones trapped in afterlife)

2016 Ghostbusters is a masterpiece

The proton pack streams are so freakin awesome looking.

The original ghost busters is hands down the one the ultimate and will ALWAYS be the greatest the new one in 2016 just ruined....I watched it and was seriously bored....but I could definitely watch the original over and over because it didn't have a lot of cgi it was just plain good and definitely exciting especially when watching it in my younger years.

My favorite ghost busting is when Phoebe and the rest of the Ghostbuster’s trap Gozer in Egon’s dirt field.

Busting makes me feel good!

The comparison just makes it more clear why nobody liked the 2016 version....They didn't have to make a joke out of Ghostbusting. Still have to watch Afterlife though

I love the Old Guys in the original Ghostbusters films (Bill, Dan, Ernie and the late, great, much missed Harold), those two films are absolutely bloody brilliant and I'm of the generation that grew up watching them. I haven't seen the 2016 "woke" parody/dumpster fire apart from the clips in this video it looks terrible and it's probably a good job I haven't seen it; but having said that though their new gadgets do look rather interesting...🤔 I absolutely love Ghostbusters Afterlife though, it's my favourite Ghostbusters film. I love Phoebe and her jokes and comments. I really liked Callie, Trevor, Lucky, Podcast and Grooberson and I can't wait to see them all again in Ghostbusters Frozen Empire. McKenna Grace is an absolute star and a joy to watch in anything she's in and boy can she sing too!

It’s nice to see the 2016 movie is still acknowledged by the official Ghostbusters channel even if it’s largely been ignored by the fanbase. While I personally don’t really like the movie itself, I love the gadgets and new takes on devices.

I know. That's why the next movie should be a multiverse movie. I did not like Afterlife at all, but I'm not on a crusade to hate it like others do with 2016. If the next movie has ALL the Ghostbusters from 84 (except Egon, since I don't think anyone would accept him returning after Afterlife's finale), 2016 and Afterlife, then we'd have a great movie. Just leave all that emotional drama from Afterlife out, and keep all out humor from start to finish.

@JessicaChastainFan: What kind of humour? Slapstick comedy like the 2016 movie, or dialogue based jokes like the other three films? That's why I don't think mixing the two universes would work, their styles are simply too different. It would be like doing a crossover between the Adam West and Michael Keaton Batmen. Also, 2016 reboot was a financial failure, so there is zero chance of those characters being brought back.
