By the way that art piece you showed for the first inquisitor was actually Obiwan Sherlock Clouseau in the original rogue trader entry. It's very much canon XD

I kind of agree and disagree, in regard to canonicity(?) of the character. I think you argue he's cannon until 3rd, where everything was codified and set in place. But that's my opinion, feel free to disagree.

Fun fact: fyodor karamozov is a very deep cut reference to the brothers karamazov written by fyodor dostoyevsky, specifically a section of the book where Ivan tells the story of the grand inquisitor. Pretty cool little literary reference by GW

It.also shows that they can't come up with their OWN names. They took Space Marine from a 1932 book of the same name not to mention other authors who've used the name before GW was a wet dream, hell, they're even trying to trademark the name Inquisitor

Quite common, but it looks like the mini has not been dunked into warm soapy water, gotta dunk your minis! One thing I noticed from the pics: the tabs on the early ones don't have lettering. Tewwibly mystewious...
@JMcMillen
Жыл бұрын
@@jack-a-lopium As someone that lived and gamed during the 80's, I do remember that sometimes the tabs on those older models were too thick to actually fit into the slot on the base. The easiest way to deal with that was to use a metal file to grind it down and the side with the lettering was always going to be the easier side to do that to. I've had to do that to a few of my own figures back in the day, especially fantasy ones back when you had to cram them onto a 20mm square base.

The Inquisition is absolutely one of the three armies that if GW made it into a full faction I’d build an army immediately. The other two are Dark Mechanicum and Exodite Eldar.
@pug1184

I’m curious what type of thing you have in mind, for the inquisition as a full faction? Given GW have now covered three of the Big Inquisition Branches Deamon Hunters (Grey Knights), Xenos Hunters (Death Watch) and Witch Hunters (Sisters of Battle). Curious what the new take would be? Something more Peasants Revolt in style? (Less power armour!?? 😄)

@@pug1184 Inquisitors don't usually have their own armies, just their retinue. If they need additional forces they use their authority to request/commandeer them.
@mattburnett7440

@@pug1184 good question. I hadn’t really thought of those three as branches of the inquisition tbh. What I would like is more rules support for a flexible cast of acolytes. For example being able to take an Inquisitor AND their retinue as agents of chaos. Being able to take a squad of tempestuous scions and a deathwatch kill team to battle with an inquisitor and their retinue. I suppose I’d just like more support for souping armies! But with that said I am starting a Deathwatch force. So perhaps I’ll think of them as my inquisitorial force instead.
Shame you missed the Inquisitor models from the Inquisitor game. There were a few interesting sculpts back then. You did say EVERY Inquisitor after all. :p I'd like to see old man Eisenhorn, Covenant and Tyrus make their way to 28mm scale one day .

And they are GLORIOUS!
I have two comments to make about the combi-melta Inquisitor: first, the bolter is a pig to fit as-supplied, because it wasn't sculpted to fit, so filing or pinning are needed; and he is the basis for the newest model, sort of a glow-up like Ghazkhull, and he is the current store anniversary model, so you still have a chance to get him if any local Warhammer stores have yet to celebrate. Also, the cowboy is Gideon Lorr, he was a limited edition model from I think a global campaign in the mid-2000s. I joined the hobby in 2006, after he was no longer available.
Anyway, my favorites are Bolter and Sword from the Daemon Hunter era, with that very John Blanche-style shoulder fur cloak, and good old Goatee Terminator with the Power Fist and Bionic Leg. But somewhere between the two of them was the wild ride that was 54mm Inquisitor: bald old Eisenhorn (a million times cooler than his 28mm version, with rad cane sword), Bishounen Covenant, and poster boy Tyrus who absolutely needs a 40k version. Or we can just wait until scale creep makes 54mm the standard.
wish we had a true Army of Inquisitors :D in the old day they where in the Demonhunters codex and Witch Hunter Codex, they are now the Gray knights and Sisters of battle. and inquisitors are not in any codex but in one of the narrative play books.

I had the anniversary "cowboy inquisitor" mini with the bionic arm but it was lost in roof collapse. Luckily I found the arm alone still intact (no idea how) and was able to get the finecast result and replace the arm & pistol on it to give me a good approximation of the original mini. Then some jerk stole it from my Armies on Parade board which is when I stopped attending those events.
There was also Inquisitor Silas Hand from the Daemonifuge comic series sculpted in 28mm as a limited collectible set alongside Ephrael Stern. Not sure if they did any of the other Inquisitors that were in the Warhammer Monthly comics though.
The three arm day ones were originally only equipped with carapace armour, 4+ save, so I guess they made it look like that on purpose
The out of scale Inquisitor Game Inquisitors were really cool, and the Eisenhorn model had a bit more movement to him than the 28mm one, but they look pretty similar.
"I just feel like he becomes a bad-guy and I don't really care if he succeeds or not." Welcome to the biggest thing staunching my enthusiasm for all of 40k
I have a fun Sisters of Battle list that uses Arco-Flagellants and Penitent Engines led by Karamazov. I've been thinking of replacing the standard Battle Sisters in the list with melee Novitiates.
@Unit-3D
Жыл бұрын
Novitiates have a weird restriction where for every 1 squad you field, you need 1 squad of regular Sisters. So you can't take them as all your troop choices, though Bloody Rose lists do sometimes take 2* Battle Sisters and 1* Sisters Novitiate, because their melee weapons are better.

@@Unit-3D No fun allowed, huh? What a shame. I guess I'll just stick with Battle Sisters then.
Coteaz is one of my favourites, loved that era of inquisitor/daemon hunters. Some of the retinue models are so bizarre, I would love to see a piece on them with your opinions.
Karamasow makes an imposing leader, centerpiece and damage dealer without being a primarch, which is nice. I would have gotten an 9th edition Inquisitorial army if they'd made acolytes a troop choice. But alas, the army will live on in my dreams, like my 16 assassins list...

I used to have the top left of the 3-6. Guy holding the gun out. Long long ago, in the before time. A buddy of mine who played sisters was walking down some icy stairs with his Karamazov in his palm. He slipped. The model made it to the stairs before his back did. Karamazov was never the same. I remember him being T5 and having no rule preventing puddling. Quite a notable flaw when you have S10 demolisher cannons. The feet will leave that mark everywhere he goes

Yes and yes
I firmly stand on position that single best inquisitor is the one you scratchbuild for yourself. I mean, inquisitors and their retinues are one of the few models in 40k where pretty much anything goes, you can convert, kitbash and scratch everything you want and more. Necromunda AoS, oldhammer - it all fits. Even if you limit yourself to GW legal stuff, the possibilities are insane. And if you dont care about geedubs purity and go full radical, lots of minis from other systems make for even greater conversions (for example old warmachine warcasters. you can get them dirt cheap, and old sculpts are great) . Just grab some inquisitorial badges and symbols, , some purity seals, 40k weapons, and go wild.
I really love the idea of the protective suit that inquisitor Augustus is in. I would love a re-do of an inquisitor in a biohazard-suit.
Its 5’o clock in the morning where i am, I haven’t slept, and instead of going to sleep, i’m watching someone rate all of the inquisitors.

I've wanted that Kamarzof model ever since I saw text to speech, which I started watching again last night... so this video really makes me want it. (The little dude on the side with the long finger is Dominique)
Next episode of EOB: HHhhoooWwwWWW!!! The throw a metal dreadnought through the dry wall!! I dig the pilgrim hat also!
That "Inquisitor Agaustus" one looks like he got hit by a few plasma shots there... Though some I could see more like a statue for terrain, given how... off some can look. And man, I do miss having very varied loadouts for Inquisitors... like a Daemon Blade-weilding one that was given over to him by the Space Wolves after a daemon managed to occupy a frost axe, and they decided to subdue it by dunking it in ale that I kitbashed up. Also, sadly Inquisitors also can't take power armor as a loadout option anymore. -_- Also, one of my favorite Inquisitors... Amberley Vail. Especally when she described some Inquisitors: "Some Inquisitors believe the Emperor’s work is best done by charging around the place like a grox in a ceramic emporium, leaving a trail of carnage and destruction in their wake, while others prefer not to let the enemies of all that’s good and holy get clean away by making it blindingly obvious they’re coming for them." She needs a model.
Great video! I am a huge fan of the Inquisition and I have most of the models going back to the Rogue Trader days. I've been into the hobby since 1987 and it seems you missed one. Inquisitor Silas Hand from the late 90's. He was a LE model so it's understandable that he got missed. I'll send you a few pics including a few of some early Inquisitors that I painted that may change your mind about them being Games Workshop. Keep up the good work you produce some great stuff!
18:30 Well TBF, at the start of the first book Eisenhorn is on a planet going through a winter so cold the local population spends nine months of the year in cryogenic chambers to avoid it. So he is somewhat dressed for the weather.
New mini classification - how many sheets of drywall will this penetrate when thrown. Love that ❤
I have the Eisenhorn, Kyria, and Erasmus models. The last one you can still find on EBay for somewhat decent pricing.
Love these kinds of videos, always nice to see the old classics! 😃
10:00 Gideon Lorr. Was a Games Day Exclusive model, but wasn't the Games Day model if memory serves. Got it painted up, pretty sure I got a 2nd one at my parents house (along with aload of Games Day models that could probably be used to cover the cost of my car repairs...)
Something I realllly love about the modern models is being able to use them as proxies for other army units that are unique looking and also just doing some kitbash to make them your own. I mentioned in a livestream before how Greyfox i could as as a SoB unit with her condemntor bolter and power sword! Also never knew about the cowboy looking one, I definitely wish that one was around. Theyd be so cool to paint up!
It be nice if GW makes The Inquisition it's own fullblown faction in 10th edition with special rules and stratagems for playing Ordo Hereticus,Ordo Malleus or Ordo Xenos. I'd love to build my own Ordo Hereticus Army.
There's all the 54mm minis from the Inquisitor game, too! I'd love to see some of those minis come back with the modern casting tech, big ol' display level highly detailed sculpts with a ton of bits for wargear and conversions. And even though you're not a fan, I believe Artel W does a set of Eisenhorn and his retinue (The Old Gang bundle) - Bequin, Aemos, Fischig, The Betancore pilots etc. As well as a LoTR themed Inquisitor and retinue - An Aeldari ranger, an axe wielding Squat, and several Ratlings...
My headcanon is that Solomon Locke (16:07) has his Servo Skull carrying a toilet paper roll. You'll never know when diarrhea hits xD
22:26 that’s definitely power armor; that backpack isn’t for carrying lunch
This is an awesome video. Great idea. You should do more of these for various factions. How they matured overtime ect ...
With the 2022 inquisitor there’s no detail loss under the arms so an arm swap is 100% possible
Would be nice to see a Ravenor Inquisitor. 1 of each of before and after being put in his "chair"
Amberley Vail, at least what we see in the Ciaphas Cain novels is a good Inquisitor
Man. You’re just such a good dude. I think you’re my favourite contributor. Your painting level is similar to my own, and you’re videos are just so unrelentingly positive and friendly. Please hang out and play some Kill Team with me. Haha. :). Keep it up man.
Like you, I love any of them that have the pilgrim hats on! 😍
Coteaz was my first really intricate Paint Job I ever did. I collected Dark Angels for years but my Space Marines were mostly just Tactical Squads and such and my HQ commander wasn't all that flashy. When Daemonhunters released I bought the Codex and Coteaz with his Retinue day 1 and spent hours painting him as best I could, His Eagle and hit Cloak taught me quite a bit about how I should paint Fur and Feathers. Good times.
My favorite inquisitor is the one I made from a Sister Of Silence body, with dynamic cape and tabard, and glued on some arms and weapons and head from SoB sprues laying around. I had to fill some gapes with greenstuff and completed with nice fur for the right arm, but I'm ok with it :) She looks dynamic enough, and gets the best equipment possible for an Inquisitor aka Bolt Pistol/Chainsword aka the cheapest aka "DontMindMyGearIOnlyDoPsykingStuff" :P
Now you might be thinking to yourself "James Workshop, you put out a new Inquisitor model at least every couple of years, *HOW* could you possibly make any more?" Well, I *REDACTED* . Emperor Protects
9:00 is basically "The Witchfinder General". From the super grim film with the same name.
Inquisitor Coteaz, that damn two-headed cyber eagle is awesome. I just got him to go with my Black Templar army, and he’s my best ever paintjob so far, I love him
Chair guy had the most spirit
bruh why is this so good for working out to
Some of the old models looks like something you would get from a gellar field failure 🤣🤣
Here I am it’s 430am where I live and I’m working on my first golden daemon entry, and I get a notification from YT. Good morning EoB
I would love for Inquisitors to make a comeback. There's great conversion potential but the official models are lacking. Game wise, they're pretty flimsy right now and I'd like for them to maybe have more utility, maybe give them something similar to how you can upgrade Captains to Chapter Masters for a points cost. Anything to give them some presence on the board beyond flexing on your opponent

Yeah. I think the issue with them is that at best, they are a meek addon to factions that often have much hardier models within their lines. Space Marines have a HQ choice for everything, Custodies can barely find room to slot in their Sisters HQ because they are so strong e.t.c. They really need something impactful to slot into factions that generally have competitive, in house choices. I kinda feel one of the best ways to do that is have the inquistors be able to break certain faction rules via their retinue to soup up armies. Like I imagine if they could have one or two units drafted into any army that is exclusive to them? Like Tempest Scions or whatever to represent the fact they can literally drag and drop any resources they need as part of their retinue? That ability to change the way you play by being able to draft interesting choices or do combinations that wouldn't traditionally be available would be interesting. Though then again, I always felt that Trayzin's super ability should always be to literally pull out a pokeball, chuck any unit in the game into his Necron list (without any faction synergies obviously) to represent that he is a collector that can literally introduce elements of his collection to any battlefield to spice things up. The game for all it's bloat includes surprisingly few ways to break it's rules in fluffy ways.
good star trek pull. great episode.
Feet shaped like an inquisitor symbol means he's stamping his symbol wherever he goes.
I think the EIsenhorn Novels only become amazing in combination with the Raveonor Trilogy, the 4th book Magos and the ongoing Bequin series. The 3 Eisenhorn books on their own are nice, but not great. But with those all together, its really one of the best 40k series ever.

Eisenhorn is the man and I felt intrigued and compelled when he became more radical. He did it all for the Emperor ☝
23:05 that's a good one. I'd prefer unhooded. Judging by his backpack, that's Space Marine power armor.
Hey Jay! This might be one of my favorite videos. My favorite inquisitor is Lord Hector Rex, most due to Vraks. This is also day 8 of asking for more Imperial guard content
God, that first inquisitor costing 60p feels like a pipe dream
I imagine that from the sculpting some purity seals are on swivels. The original Lemartes model had purity seals that all pointed to the model's right to give a sense of motion.
The Inquisitors shown at 9:00 in are from the 4th Edition Witch Hunters codex, which was a Sisters of Battle Codex with Inquisitors to go with them. The style of those two models harks back to the Witchfinder General style of the 1840's, such as Matthew Hopkins. The female Inquisitors at 11:10 are also from Witch Hunters, as is Karamazov at 13:20 The Inquisitors at 7:00 are from the Daemonhunters Codex, also from the 4th Edition, as is Cortez at 12:40.

I'm a sucker for the witch hunter Inquisitor with power stake and flamer just because its in the first white dwarf I got as a kid
I agree that the first couple of guys are pretty rough. But, one of the reasons GW became popular was because they were better than the competition. I also have the terminator armor with bionic leg, mine has lightning claw and storm bolter borrowed from some other terminators.

Jay + Inquisitors + Nostalgia = Great Content. I wonder if Obi Wan Clouseau's is based off Johnny Alpha's huge, phallic pistol from Strontium Dog. I've been messing around with a bit of 3d sculpting, and I'm feeling there might be an Inquisitor Augustus remix in my future.
Hey Jay, if you want the cowboy one I can send you one, got an extra from when I bought a bunch of old metal models
still got my old metal Coteas :D
2nd Inquisitor looks like Ram Man with rickets. 40k bringing back disorders from malnutrition.
Using the same base model for a couple of minis was a common practice for GW. For example, if you look for the Wood Elves Waywatchers from 4th/5th editions of WFB, you'll find a total of 6 different models. But if you look closely, you'll notice they have 3 base models with a variant each one.
Dang, last inquisitor looks great.
