I find it comforting that not only do leave your mistakes in the footage, you also explain what went wrong. Some people won't do that and make it seem like everything they do is perfect and every job is easy. You're a real one. Your channel I so criminally underrated. I hate BMW's and still, watch you because you are genuine. You and Monkey Wrench Mike, John Ross and the other Kansas Krew.

You’re going to love that dif swap. Best bang for the buck performance mod you can do on an e46! I changed the dif in my 01 330i from a 2.93 to a 3.38 (from an auto e46) . The way it pulled afterward was amazing! I went from that car to an 05 zhp manual with a 3.07 and regretfully never got around to upgrading the dif. Enjoy!
Congratulations on your purchase of JRs airplane hangar.
working under a lift is so much easier for a job like this. Cant imagine doing this in the driveway.
Those tires need some help! Big ups to JR for the use of the lift. What a pain without one. The Wichita tubers do help each other out. Especially Jake, the Car Ninja , Elliot, and obviously John Ross!
Always good tunes to go with the content, not trash metal like some.
From C&D's website back in the day. C/D TEST RESULTS Zero to 60 mph: 5.6 sec Zero to 100 mph: 15.3 sec Street start, 5-60 mph: 6.4 sec Standing ¼-mile: 14.3 sec @ 97 mph Top speed (drag limited): 152 mph Braking, 70-0 mph: 158 ft Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 0.86 g
I'll be happy to see you get new tires on there. Love you man
$40 for the 3.46 differential seems like quite a deal. Especially with the low miles on it!! I enjoyed watching the installation!! Cheers!!
100%Jake needs to put on a Kansas bbq for ninja,wizard,elliott,Hoovie,Jr,Gabe,etc.etc. and sit about talking about stuff. Live on utube
Nice! I feel for you with the overhead work. I love that this car is a daily driver and that you go between repairs and performance mods on it.
Glad you tackled this job - I feel like my e90 330 needs every bushing in the rear end. You might have inspired me to get ‘er done!
I had a leak on my 3.07 zhp diff. I let it run dry 😂 and one day going up a hill it started making a rattling sound. I upgraded to the 3.46 and omg what a huge difference it made. The only downside was higher rpm on final gear but totally worth it
Watch out for Monkeypox if you're gonna service your rear end!🧐
I had a 6 speed ZHP (thus the yt name) and iirc, to give the automatics a shot in the arm, they gave them a shorter differential ratio. So this mod is basically in spirit with BMW's spendthrift approach to differentiating ZHP option code cars from sport package cars while still keeping them far away from anything with a S54 underhood.
Bar none gear set changes are the fastest way to increase times
Without a doubt the best value performance mod on the e46! My manual 01 330i felt like a completely different car off the line when I went from the stock 2.93 to a 3.38 from an auto e46. I regret never making the 3.07 to 3.46 with the 05 zhp I owned after that. Enjoy!
I serviced my wifes rearend last nite. No seriously. It was leaking. Crap, im not making this sound n e better
For some reason your caption about servicing your rear end painted an entirely different picture!!! I'm glad that you're able to get some maintenance done on the BMW!!! Hopefully you'll get new tires soon!!! 👍👍🙂
Long live the E46! Thanks for showing this beauty some love again!
I actually laughed at the "you have a manual why not shift it all the time" thanks

@@100PercentJake for all that stuff, including the used diff ,damm!!! That's really cool. Then again For an unemployed person like me $100 is a lot of money so the title kinda makes sense 🙃

big job, and went well!
Hey man I don’t know if you’ve ever heard of this upgrade before but I found this out when I had a 325 CI, I believe you can buy the shifter from the V10 M5 and it’ll take 2 inches of throw off of it. It was a really good upgrade for stupid cheap.

@@100PercentJake my man!! It's short but I loved it. Feels like it's gated, on a budget.. lol
A a fellow E46 owner, I did a bit more than what you did, had a manual 5 speed Touring. I've since done some swapping out for a Getrag 6 speed from an E36 M3 Evo, and had the differential rebuilt with the Z4 rear cover (which has fins for cooling) and a Gripper LSD centre installed, ratio was swapped from 2.93:1 to a 3.23:1 ratio lifted out of the Z4. Makes for a decent balance between acceration to cruising.

Why the E36 transmission, specifically? In my experience the 6 speed E46 ZF is one of the nicest shifting manuals ever put in a BMW with excellent power handling to boot. The Z4 rear cover is super cool. I looked briefly for one but gave up.
Take care of yourself and don’t push so hard. Love the videos Jake.
Thanks
Good video is good! I'm sure that gear ratio change is going to make it a blast in the long run!
I know that everyone says "guibo", but it's actually "giubo". *pushes up glasses*
One hand clap , kudos
...Those rear tires tho....
Glad you tackled the rear of the old "flog sheep" before JR has lifts but nowhere to put them 🤣 Thanks for reminding me I probably need to do a shift bushing too... 🤦
Well done, Jake. Good to see the old car getting attention. All new suspension bushings are likely a few years away for me. Waiting until I restore the old Volvo. So far, 32 years and just shy of 400,000 miles and all the bushings are looking good. Still, when it all happens, a rebuild of the Dana 30 will make a difference. If I can find all the parts, a manual will take the place of the origin AW-70. You inspire me to get going on Arthur.
My 325i 2.5L is a 2003 that was automatic.. now its has a 1999 2.8L with a 5 speed.. we never swapped the rear end so the gears are really short without swapping the rear end because of the difference from the auto to standard difference in the way the trannies perform.. so no need to swap out rear end.. but 40.00 dollars is a BARGAIN. I wish i had a 6 speed transmission as at 120km at 3500 r.pm. is what i get .. it would be nicer for lower revs at that speed . better gas mileage etc.. any how .. time to finish the video . just got to the part where you talked about the new-old rear end.
It is impressive how much better a car can feel when you take the slop out of it.
Little by little you are getting it to where you really want it to be.
Hope it was good.

I could make a bunch of comments about the title but don’t want to get blocked…
I wanted to see the shifter bushing replacement.. does your shifter pop out of gear ???
I take it that the new diff is open not a limited slip?
did you check the boot floor for cracks? E46's were prone to develop them, specially M3, 330 and 330d
@100PercentJake

I asked Jonny what the usual spots were and he showed me. Checked my car and they were all flawless.
9:58 tsk, tsk ... you didn’t mark the nut on the input shaft and count the turns off in order to restore the original preload on the bearing once the input flange is swapped over to the 3.46 diff.
Took a chuckle from the thumbnail. Someone could mistake you for going the other way
What happened with the shift linkage, you didn't address it.
Hello there, l also have an e46. Where did you bought the parts?
nothing will be easy... u have a BMW..... Break My Wallet

$40 for a rear diff ... nice!
This service? I was expecting to see a crusher
Talking over dance music is a real pain when you have crappy hearing so I'll have to give this one a miss.
I like the content....but the techno music is mess.
I’m sorry, but you’re high of you think you’re doing 0-60 in a naturally aspirated e46 non M car in low 4’s…
I am not going to watch yet another E46 video sorry.
