Once you understand this chord structure, your piano playing will never be the same. It's used commonly in both Jazz and Neo Soul, but you'll really hear it used in an absolutely gorgeous way in modern Neo Soul-Inspired tracks that cross genres as well. A really important part of this sound is the dim(maj7) chord, i.e. a diminished triad with a major 7. The structure comes down to being built like a block chord, but with a major 7 instead of a 6. Use this over any melody or chord progression for a modern sound. Enjoy this jazz and Neo Soul piano tutorial with Noah Kellman.

Thank you, David! So glad you like it and are finding it helpful.
Yessss loving this series!! So so helpful 🙏🙏🙏
thanks for sharing 👏👏👏
I really appreciate these videos!
Got my copy, brah.
Thank you 🙏
Excellent presentation of chord diagrams! Thanks for your wonderful information resources! Very beautiful diagrams.
Best dominant7 presentation I've ever come across.
Bravo
One voicing I really like is 5, 1, 4, b7, 3, 13. Love the maj7 between the 4 and 3. I also realize it can be seen as a m13no5 if you think of the first note as the root but since there’s no fifth solidifying that bass note it adds to the ambiguity. Actually got the idea for this voicing by adding the 3 note to a chord from a Chopin piece :).
I always recommend people to watch your videos when it comes to learning theory
1-5-3-b7-b9-3-13 rolled, simple but really smooth imo. Awesome vid as always.
Great job as always Noah, I enjoy slowing down your intros and 'stealing' some of your ideas

Hey thanks I'm glad you're able to get some good material from them!
My two favorite dominant voicings are 1, b7, 3, b13, #9 and 1, b7, b9, 4, 5. These can be thought of as Maj7(b5) chords played a half step or minor third over the root.
Hey Noah, I'm a new subscriber. I've watched some of your videos and they are really helpful. Hope to stick around and learn more from you! ❤️
Great tips as always. Thanks Noah! My voicing tip: 3-b7-#9-b13-b9-#11
Buenísimo
RH 1 b3 4 b5 LH 7 9 11 (triad from 7th degree) Voicing for 2nd dominants. I saw it in a video from a gospelplayer on fb, absolutely love it.
Another good one is: 1 3 (played as a tenth with left hand) 13 1 #9 #5 - played with the right hand, AND this RH voicing can be moved up a half step and everything still works over the left hand.
It's interesting. A demonstration on a standard could be great
I always just root the chord in the pedal bass register and arpeggiate the tritone with whatever other chord I can get to at the time.
Tanks a lot! You are awesome!!!!!!!!!!! Could you tell me (us) your rec equipment? How do you record your piano sound and voice etc, screen etc. Pls!!!
I started this, but it's out of my pay grade. I'll go earn my chops and come back to this.
How can you possibly memorize all these voicings all 12 keys? The upper extension triad trick works for quickly playing extension chords, but with these wide ranged voicings, I wonder if there’s a technique.
LH C Bb RH E G# C D# and maybe LH C Bb Db RH E G A C maybe this slape on the 4 trials of half hole scale so minor 7ths with major 3rd in the LH? different approach as you didactische with the dimineshed chorus?
what is the software you use that gives the score of what you play in real time?
First to watch and comment.
Aw man😥😥😥 2nd
why do you describe so many of your videos as "Sick" this and "Sick" that. Are they unwell?
