look at the block by #52 at @3:30 had the key block and took his man 5 yards into the bench just to make sure Hester had a clear lane to cut back to. Special Teams brilliance.

I'll never forget the legit confusion in that announcer's voice when Hester was at the OPPOSITE 30 in that Denver game (5:28). He KNEW Hester was headed to his second TD that day, with 70 yards to go. Hester just flummoxed people. He bamboozled you. He was an offense unto himself. And the way the Bears blocked for him was beautiful - Brendon Ayanbadejo, Hunter Hillenmeyer - dudes went full tilt.

As a kid who grew up loving the bears, I really didn't know what I was seeing when I watched Hester. Now I fully realize just how incredible he was. Welcome to the HOF, my favorite bear of all time. You earned it.

It was no fluke that so many returns were penalty-free. Dave Toub was the Special teams coach and has a successful record.

You can't deny it though, his speed and vision with the cuts he made were unnatural. Dave Toub was a great coach, using starters on the kick teams is unheard of, but Hester was RIDICULOUS.

The smoothest, fastest man alive back there. Every time they kicked it to em you felt like he was gonna score 🐐

The one at 4:08 still amazes me. The punter makes every effort to punt away from Hester, he's surrounded by Vikings players, and still takes it all the way. It's like no matter how teams prepped for him, he still had a chance to make you pay.

you missed the super bowl opening kickoff return against the colts.

He is the kind of player the hall of fame is made for. It is not for "stat kings" only. He changed the game. Definitely changed the Bears for a few years. And out of all NFL stats, his record of kick returns for TDs is probably the one least likely to be beaten. The rules have changed to all but eliminate kickoff returns. For player safety is what they say. I can't say the stats aren't there, but I have been watching the NFL for 41 years, and I very rarely saw serious injuries on kick returns. People get obliterated on over-the-middle passes, QBs on blind sacks, and routine tackles where players on the same team make awkward contact.

1:55 I was at this game with my father, the sound of the stadium erupting at 2:06 doesn’t do justice on how loud Soldier Field was. I miss those times with my dad.

I was so hot when he stopped returning for that long ass stint. He wanted to solidify himself as receiver or whatever it was but it was a long ass minute in his career he stopped returning which makes it even more insane!

Perfect balance between speed and strength at his position. Dude will always be a legend

That fact they left the Super Bowl kick out must be a mental error but somebody! They caught do a whole other video with near returns that either came back because of penalty or he got tripped up at the end. Really could have 10 more! Those were great times

I remember his first preseason game in San Francisco in 2006. He was on the sideline on a exercise bike, me and my cousin were shouting down at him that he had big shoes to fill wearing number 23 which was worn by Jerry Azumah the year before and he was a great returner himself. He pointed at both of us nodding his head up in down confidently like watch what’s coming. Little did we know he would be the greatest ever and a hall of famer! Congratulations Devin!

I watched all of these returns live, the week after it happened, and again just now and still am blown away at his talent. Goosebumps. This guy is the best return man I have ever seen and I have been watching the NFL since the late 60s. The dude had the perfect balance of speed and vision. Great video. I'm glad they put him in the HOF because if you are the best at your position and that's all you played, just judge him on that alone, and he was the best at returns.

Hester changed the nature of the game. Special teams everywhere started looking for return specialists and then they started developing new tactics and strategies on special teams. That aspect of the game is so changed now that I doubt anyone will ever duplicate what he did.
