I once lost a game to Tony Druid where they did essentially nothing for 5 turns, they bricked super hard and were gonna lose. Then they played Resizing Pouch on turn 6 and discovered Barnes. Then they played Barnes and won the 50% chance to summon Gadgetzan Auctioneer from deck and not Tony. Then they drew their entire deck in one turn, played Tony, and played quadruple naturalize for the OTK. I'm pretty sure the Resising Pouch was discovered from Nature Studies as well, the sheer amount of RNG was ridiculous

Fun fact about Switcheroo Priest: Stonetusk Boar and The Darkness (along with their Standard stand-ins, Twin-fin Fin Twin and Deathwing the Destroyer) had some of the lowest recorded winrates of any card in the game when in the mulligan, at a staggering 0.5%. Most Switcheroo Priests conceded the moment they drew either of their pieces, as the rest of their deck was completely incapable of winning the game, so the only wins were against opponent Switcheroo Priests which ALSO bricked.

Very fun fact!

One mistake here. In wild tony wasn't being used with the jailor, that was in standard. In wild people were using him to give your opponent an empty deck and kill them with naturalizes.

Clergy was one of those bans that felt really out of place, yes the effect was strong but it was funnel cake that really broke the card and made tony druid a strong apm combo deck so they really should of just banned funnel cake since it was of hit two annoying combo decks instead of deleting the weaker one in preist.

I just viewed it as Funnel Cake was the more interesting of the two cards being able to make a lot of different deck archetypes. But Funnel Cake was obviously overtuned and a slightly weaker miracle Priest could've been something nice to see in wild for a bit longer than just a couple months

the transition clips are pure genius. they way they all have the underlying theme of "banned" with a little added something to do with the card in question. i'm currently at the switcheroo one which is what prompted me to write this comment

Jailer and Tony was essentially toggwaggle druid but for every class. So it enabled turbo draw decks like how astalor enables otk with some sort of discount and bran. But it was even better than toggwaggle druid. After the card that sets both players mana to 0 and makes their minions cost 1 was nerfed this deck could combo off without it. And Tony would have immune meaning he couldn't die unless u have reno or some sort of exile removal. And jailer made a huge board.

I haven't been looking forward this much since that time I drove in a really dense fog

As someone getting back into hearthstone this was helpful to know the context for some of these I saw a few and was like what did that card do to get banned

I feel like there should just be a universal rule now where card cost reductions effects cannot reduce the cost to 0 unless stated otherwise.

I've been wondering why they always banned/nerfed cards instead of banning "association" of cards. For example, the druid and Pyro technician: You don't have to banned the card completely, just program the game so you are not allowed to put Pyrotechnician and Thaddius in the same deck while you're constructing. (Another example could be with pre-nerf Jailer and Tony/Malganis/Bolf). Maybe banning completely it's just less work for the developers?

Strange how people always complain about druid, when warlock has been consistently broken through hearthstones history. Every expansion they get another insane deck that needs to be nerfed. From demon seed to tome tampering to popgar and azerite snake, even in titans they got arguably the strongest titan in Sargeras. There's never been a time Warlock has been unplayable, probably because the class can do everything; aggro or control, mana cheating or combos/otks. Most of warlocks success comes from experimental effects, such as discarding cards, however these effects are always overtuned. Yeah, you're paying with cards in your hand for the effect, but that's still mana cheating, not to mention when you add synergies on top of these already powerful cards. Same with using life as a resource, that's just mana cheating and for some reason that isn't good enough and Blizzard has to print cards that even synergize with "the downside". It isn't enough that you get an already powerful effect multiple turns earlier than normally, but now you also get an additional bonus on top of that.

The consistent refusal by Blizzard to ban the cards that do the cost reducing is really concerningm

The problem with most of the problematic combo decks in 2023 was because of Thaddius. But of course, blizzard had to sell the diamond thaddius 🤷‍♂️

Imo, not enough banned cards, we REALLY need a more comprehensive banlist for wild. It's pretty much unplayable now. unless you play witha friend.
