Same. I expected discussion of why he doesn’t use Obsidian. It’s weird to call that out without a single word about it. Why not an X through the todoist logo? Pocket? Every other productivity app in existence?

I just watch this video because of the thumbnail with obsidian crossed out. I really felt disappointed. I wish l had heard talk about the new PKM apps like Obsidian and others

I agree with Tiago, it's often not the tools but YOU (the person) as the cause for something not working. I use Apple Reminders right now and it's productive for me because I have built a process around using a task management app. I could replace it with any app and I would probably be the same. The productivity is in my process, not the app.

The Tone of the video matches the selection of apps. I am a fan of Tiago’s work and already bought the audio book buy have a whole set of modern set of apps that I implement Tiago’s processes

"It's a 2010 stack" I felt that in my core. It just works and it's reliable. I really tried using Notion and more then one time and it didn't work. I go for simplicity.

Tiago is my indirect mentor for information management. Just a great guy . . .

I’ve purchased the Audible version of Tiago’s book. Looking forward to listening to it.

@@peetung No, as far as I am aware. Just the narrated book on the Audible subscription. 7hrs long. I find it easier to listen and work at same time. I might not always pick up a book or ebook and complete it 100%.

Great interview! A little suggestion,next time use a less sepia LUT it is a bit washed out but it's visible your constant evolution in production.congrats

Instapaper is like your private newspaper ehich your read when you have free time, where you are your own newspaper editor.

This is great! I was wondering about Tiago using both Instapaper to catch all the read/audio stuff but also Evernote? I thought Evernote was the catch all?

I'm also confused. What is the flow? Capture to Instapaper .. then send to Evernote .. then eventually organize in Notion?? ... but also incorporate into Clickup? This is why my head spins with all of it.

Evernote is for personal notes (insights, meeting notes, journaling, etc) instapaper is for things to read later (videos, articles, etc)

He answered this question in the first video of the series on how he organizes email: Instapaper is the dump for things to read/watch initially; Evernote is for reference materials where he puts things he already read. He's careful to not put stuff into Evernote that hasn't been read first.

Honestly, while I get that execution is more important than the apps, I am underwhelmed with the list, other than maybe Notion (which I do not use); the list seems likes 2018. Wow, I wrote this abut did not click "Comment" to post, and they referenced 2012 - probably more accurate. And to be fair, people who use paper can be more productive ad reliable than the latest and greatest.

So Merlin Mann the "creator" of inbox Zero has basicly turned away from it and said its not the best system at all and should not be used. What do you guys think about that? How do you counter his points.

The only problem with Things 3 is it is not on windows yet

I used Evernote for 12 years. I had to leave about a year ago when the app was no longer native and it became this laggy, buggy machine. The friction of loading Evernote for even 5 seconds was too much to make it worth it.

i'm a bit confused, so Tiago uses Evernote so... what are the advantages to use other software to capture articles as Instapaper over the evernote webclip? Thanks

Different levels of quality. Personally, I capture in Instapaper whatever piece of content I'm interested in and that I'm not able to read at that time. I don't commit to it. That doesn't mean I will ever read it. But it's there. It's like a newspaper on steroids, because every piece of content fits my specific interests. Then I send my highlights from Instapaper to Evernote. Evernote is for the very very best things I've already read and that I want to keep for references.

@SassySam I used to use Notion a lot for a few years. But not so much anymore. You can do pretty much everything and it's a joy to use. But because it's so flexible, I found myself playing with it (designing and improving pages / databases all the time) and not making sufficient progress in my day-to-day work. The best apps for me are the ones that are frictionless, even if they have limitations (and even if it's frustrating sometimes). Notion is the opposite to me.

Hi Pedro, the idea is to put a "buffer" between your second brain note-taking app and the web. This friction doesn't need to be hard but you want to be ultra-selective and adopt a "curator" behavior about what enter your note-taking app. "Read-later" is better away from the "execution" room. It also give a second time to guess "why did I capture this ?" "For what ?" Etc... For some people it's even better to add friction on the capture part of the creative process.

Saving to Evernote on a mobile device is not the same as desktop and Instapaper works with Kindle, not everyone likes to read articles on the desktop of Evernote and the Evernote mobile app is still far from perfect. I find Evernote on mobile a bit slow to load, despite having good internet. How often are you finding articles on your desktop vs. mobile device (including ereader)?

Instapaper is like taking a photo on your phone, its in the moment, works reliably, but when time goes by and after reviewing the content we often end up deleting selfies we took in the moment, or storing them in a more secure space to prevent loss. Articles we save to Instapaper is like our photo gallery on our phone. We save the images/articles that are meaningful to us and discard the rest.

@@keepproductive One of the reasons that I clicked on the video , was to check why Tiago would have chosen not to use Obsidian. It is one of the most well know apps in the communicate of the second brainers. It has grown a lot in popularity. So actually getting feedback from someone why they do not use it, might be really useful for someone's workflow. The thumbnail kind of indicates this would be part of the conversation . Otherwise the video was pretty good as one would expect from the channel. :)

A second brain 🧠. One, two or event hundred brains, this not the point. The point is how efficient and effective that would. Knowlege management has always been a good topic that helps individuals and organizations. A second brain is catchy title but it is all about how you store and manager knowledge. Then your single brain does the analysis.
