Every 20 minute job is ONE broken bolt away from...

A saying any mechanic is familiar with and dreads, when a simple job becomes a disaster at the snap of a bolt. Depending on where that bolt is, what that bolt is on, and what it's going through there could be varying degrees of terrible time in your future. Also, how careful do you have to be to remove it without damaging what's around it?
While this job isn't on a classic American muscle car or a hot rod, a whole lot of modern cars and trucks have to deal with this kind of issue. Dissimilar metals in addition to salt treatments in winter can be a recipe for frustration, rust, and potentially disaster.

If you get stressed out easily, make sure to have medication at the ready!

Rich that was no lie. That salt did a number on those bolts. But congrats on being able to get them out. That BMW fought you. But you fought back. Thank you for sharing! 💯👊👍

We have salt down on the road in the winter here in Henderson TN but it doesn't do as much damage to our rides as y'all's. My 83 Ranger spent its entire life in west Tn and when I put the V8 in it, I didn't break a single bolt or nut and barely had to use penetration oil. I was amazed.

I understand the rust bullshit as I live in Buffalo NY that's why I bought a truck from down south its been here for 7 years and in still good shape because for the last 7 years I have used Fluid Film underneath it that shit is a good rust preventive

My fight was a no good deed goes unpunished. Just off of work, still in the parking lot & the co-worker across from me needs a jump. Gave'em one & he's off. I pull out about to enter the highway & the old truck dies as if I had turned it off. Restarts right away & thought that's odd. Only to find out later nope its just the beginning. Short short version after the 2nd trip to the dealership & under a different, this time an old timer, technician to find out I've got a bad PCM after its "cold circuit" side was damaged from that jump. $700 later for all labor & part. It turns out for the Dodge Dakotas in the 90's ignition coils receive their power & is controlled by said PCM. That was a fun 6 week endeavor. Since that day after it was fixed I'll not jump anyone until after I disconnect my battery first to ensure no damage can occur. I've the ONE computer that's it. I can't imagine the cars now a days with 50+ mini computer modules that could be damaged should the fuse(s) not blow if applicable.
