I went to a few lfc v efc games between 78 n 82 n was nothing like that no segregation no hostilities used to be UpTo 2000 evertonians in kop n vice versa at goodison + was pockets of away fans at both grounds there was alot more hooliganism in them days but lfc n efc was known as the peaceful derby how things have changed between 2 sets of fans

I saw loads of fights in the 80s at both grounds in derby matches. It's simply not true to say there was no trouble.

As someone who remembers singing 'Merseyside' at Wembley in the 80's, that video makes me feel very sad, and brings shame on both sets of supporters. Can't see us ever getting the 'friendly' derby back.

@@johnturnley6972 I just don't get it mate. We used to be unique back in the 80's, a real bond between the fans. Some can say it harks back to the ban, but things were still ok in the 90s. Its been going downhill since the start of the millennium and its no use one side blaming the other, there are idiots on both sides.

Always been like that mate. Just because some families are mixed doesn’t mean for one second, that there isn’t grown men who just go to fight (especially the 80s). It’s the most red carded fixture in Premier league history, I believe. So, it’s certainly not all friendly on the pitch.

The hatred of Evertonians seeing Liverpool be so successful, while they haven’t won anything since 1995. Will bring hatred. Also, Everton being bitter about that, will make Liverpool hate them even more. I think the reason people believe the rivalry isn’t that fierce, due to Liverpool hating Man united more. In a way, the city rivalry is looked over (also the case in the Manchester derby)
