I was surprised to read of differences when using them as digital transport. I always thought the differences were only impacting the DAC performance. Thank you. I did have the A6ME and ended up selling it on Ebay for what I paid. These devices are in high demand but in my experience what Eversolo nailed is the visual part: when feeding a DAC, after extensive comparisons I found the Wiim Pro just as good sounding.

I've been waiting for this review and you didn't disappoint!💯 I had the standard version, but it was just a bit bright for my system. Though the Master Edition may still be perhaps a little bit bright, I expect the other sonic differences you mention will more then make up for it in my setup. Looking forward to testing it out. Standard version is great for the money and would recommend to most as you pointed out. 👍

So then the topic is clocks downstream / upstream... my switch has a master clock, my streamer has a clock, my dac has a clock.... all need to be synced to master? Not possible with my gear. Then which clock is the most important clock for streaming audio from internet? For streaming files from a nas? The streamer or the dac? Or both equal? I use toslink to my dac... maybe some answers are in your video about switches, I have to watch it again 😊 Thanks Hans!!

Another wonderful review! I have been using the audio only hdmi out and it appears to upconvert everything to 192kHz. Also for better convenience attach a wireless keyboard to the USB 3.0. I am using a handheld Lenovo keyboard. Speeds up input tine. Enjoy!

Hi John. Apparently because I use a Xfinity hotspot for my home wifi, the a-6 won't connect (it won't prompt username, only password), so I have to use my phone as a wifi hotspot. This prevents me from connecting the phone app with the a-6 because they are not sharing the same LAN. ANYWAY, my question is--will a wireless keyboard allow me to operate the a-6 remotely since I cannot with the phone app? I bought the remote control but its functions seem severely limited. Thanks

@@michaelrobinson8241 Sorry for the late response. I do not follow on any social feeds. So you are correct. You must have to DMP-A6 and your phone on the same Wi-Fi system for initial install. I suggest you take the unit and phone to a friend or family home and used their wifi for initial setup. After that you should be able to update the WiFi access for the unit back at your home. It works best if you can migrate to a wired Internet connection for the unit. Your phone on a related Wi-Fi network should work fine. I hope this helps. Best John

Hi Hans, hope you are well. Your review format is the gold standard ( thank you ! ). In this review I could not find a comparison of the RCA/XLR audio out between the 2 Eversolo models. I have suspected that the master edition is only necessary if one is feeding digital out to a high end DAC ( via USB and the upgraded oscillators ). However, There is mention of an upgraded OPA1612 op-amp... this makes the output stages a bit different (but the 2-DAC chip source implementation is identical)... is the RCA/XLR audio out close between the 2 models? Hello Hans, thanks for your excellent review. One question, from a general design standpoint what's your best guess for having the streaming engine hosted on a removable piggyback curcuit board? Could it be for modularity reason, in the sense to be able to upgrade it or reuse the backbone board in other models just using a different (better or reduced) streaming engine board?

It's on a piggy back board so it can be used in devices of several price categories and functions (like streaming amp). Not for later updates.

Great review, however I was a little surprised that your digital out test only used SPDIF. Most DMP-A6 owners I have communicated with, self included, feel strongly that USB is the optimal connection to an external dac. Eversolo throws out a big clue there, as they do include a USB cable, but no coax/optical. At that point, of course, you are using the external dac's clock and, on my Benchmark DAC2 HGC, the improvement over SPDIF is pretty huge. I would expect the Master Edition's digital out sonic advantage that you mention to erode in an asynchronous USB environment. As a further observation, it is very clear to me, over about 90 hours of use thus far, that the digital out sonics evolve quite drastically during burn-in (I believe they are still improving). Therefore I would respectfully suggest that any side-by-side comparison between Master and Standard editions is only completely valid with exactly the same usage time.

The USB on both models use the same circuits and thus are identical. I like SPDIF better. Both players were burned in for 5 days 24/7 before the listening test.

Equally, of course, one may get differing results according to whatever dac is used and, indeed, if amplification etc is capable of fully delivering the DMP-A6/external dac output. In conjunction with my DAC2 HGC, through an LA4 preamp and AHB2 power amp the sound is sublime, only even more so with USB. I completely accept that other dacs may deliver differing results per input.

For some reason I am only able to pass 192khz sample rates through usb not through SPDIF. Passing through SPDIF downsamples to 44.1, even though my DAC accepts much higher. Is anyone else experiencing this? I thought the a-6 was able to pass 192khz out through SPDIF? @@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel

First of all, these Hans Beekhuyzen reviews are great! And from what I understand, it is worth choosing the Master Edition when using the internal DAC or the SPDIF digital out, because in both cases the Accusilicon Femtosecond chips are active. But how about USB? Yes, no, maybe? I wanted to have some clarity on that specific connection too. I love it when the front of my streamer says Gold Edition, Master Version, or even MkII (a serious case of FOMO), but is it actually worth spending more money when there may not be any audible difference at all? So I reached out to Eversolo and asked if the Accusilicon Femtosecond chips (unique to the Master Edition) are active when using the USB output of the DMP-A6. There is a lot of contradictory information "out there". Well, Eversolo states that the Femto's are NOT used when an external DAC is used on USB. So there appears to be no point in buying the Master Edition but ONLY when you use and external DAC and the USB out of the DMP-A6. Which confirms Hans' remark on the USB circuitry of both models begin identical. I'm currently using a Musical Fidelity MX-DAC, which is great for my secondary set; it's nice to know that I can upgrade to a better DAC at any point in time, and having the DMP-A6 Standard Edition taking advantage of the upgrade too. Having said this, if you like the golden logo and the golden LED, oozing exclusivity.... it is pretty! 🙂

Hi Hans, great review. I just purchased one after seeing positive reviews of this streamer. I connected the DMP A6 to an Hegel H190 using USB connection and my speakers are a pair of Kanta 1. The SQ is underwhelming. I hardly noticed an upgrade vs the Wiim Pro. I tried the RCA connection, the sound became more subdued and the volume out is lower compared to USB set up. Any suggestion on connection to make the SQ more full, detailed and holographic? Thank you.

The quality of the Eversolo is great for the money but your Hegel deserves a higher class streamer. BTW the volume should stay the same regardless the digital interface used.

Great video Hans thank you. Can I ask can I connect the HDMI output to my AV reciever and stream multichannel PCM & multichannel DSD via this output using the Eversolo as a Roon endpoint?

Hi Hans. Many thanks for the continuing excellent reviews. I purchased the Master Ed. based to no small degree on your review. I am wondering if you have tried or could try playing DSD through the a-6's internal DAC via DoP? When sending DSD via coax DoP into the a-6 I am getting loud interruptions of intermittent noise a few times each track lasting a few seconds each time. The display reads DSD 64 the entire time, but the VU meters of course max out hard during the intermittent noise. The DoP is coming from a modded Oppo103 with a VanityHD board playing SACD passing DSD 64 in the DoP package unmodified through spdif. I posted this bug on the Ziddo forums without luck so far, so I thought I'd check to see if you've tried or would be willing to try DoP into the a-6's DAC. Thank you

You can use the native app on your smartphone and send the music to the Eversolo using DNLA or AirPlay. Or download the relevant app on the Eversolo.

A very informative review. I have the standard version of the DMP A6. You mention the SMB connection to the NAS. I have a question concerning the UPnP function. Did you test the connection for example to the minimserver ? My DMP-A6 shows under streaming/UPnP only the UPnP Server on my Router (Fritzbox), not the minimserver at all with my music collection. Other Mediaplayers (Teac, Ropieee, WiiM pro, Denon) detect minimserver and play without problems. Does the A6 need a special configuration for UPnP client function ? I use minimserver on win10 connected with ethernet, The A6 is connected with ethernet too.

Currently I have a Sonos set up in my lounge having changed it from a Moon & Focal speaker system, I did this as I had a complete room re configuration due to space. I must say I think the Sonos set up has a good enough sound for me, I kept my Innuos Zen 3 as for my music library. Goede revieuw, net gekocht de standaard versie en in gebruik genomen. In mijn retro Amerikaanse setup met een Harman Kardon AVR 8500 met Infinity Kappa Renaissance 90 4 weg ls naast de 8.2i en Kappa 7 3 weg, maakt hij een goede indruk. Bediening vanaf mijn mobieltje met Android is super. Aangezien ik ook nog vaak platen draai of sacd' s vond ik 770 euro wel een zeer schappelijk bedrag (en mij goed uitkomend) voor zo'n goed gebouwde en m.i. erg fraai uitziende DAC. Veel van deze apparaten vind ik er maar mager uit zien, kleine display's, uiterlijk van een wekker radio, plastic en dan toch 1500 euro vragen enfin niet mijn ding. 3000 euro aan een HiFi Rose spenderen zal ik nooit maar dit looks the part. Ik zie op youtube alweer dat de echte audio fanaten nu de DMP A8 gaan kopen, weer beter geluid en volledige voorversterker functionaliteit en zo zal het door blijven gaan. De fabrikant hiervan wens ik alle succes maar bijna 900.000 verkocht is een daverend succes. Mijn enige vrees is dat de software op een gegeven moment niet meer kan worden ge update....Een 4 TB ssd schroefde ik er nog niet in en vroeger zou ik als een gek cd's gaan rippen maar dat kan lekker wachten. Mijn Teac 970 VX neem ik binnenkort ook weer in gebruik nog 100 + Maxell UDXLII C 90 hier, bespeeld, en still going strong. Bedankt voor jouw revieuw!

I have both the Innuos Zen Mini MK III and the DMP-A6 Master Edition. Sound quality using an external DAC (Denafrips Venus II 12th) is about the same sound quality level. Using the internal DAC in both of them, the Eversolo ME wins. I greatly prefer the Eversolo user interface/app over the Innuos Sense app. My 2 cents.

Thank you for the very informative review. I have a question if I may? In one of your older videos you stated that a streamer should cost roughly that of your DAC. I have a Gustard R26, that I have just purchased that I very much like. I have ordered a standard DMP-A6, but it is yet to be delivered. I am tempted to upgrade to the Master Edition. Going back to your original video, in which you suggested a streamer should cost roughly that of the DAC, does the Eversolo perform sufficiently above its price point that I have no need to invest in a better streamer? I'm moving from a Bluesound Node 2i. I should also point out that the Gustard really opened up the sound stage for my system compared to my old DAC. It created a wider, deeper sound stage with more space. I am looking forward to hearing what a better quality streamer can do.

Thank you Hans, I can't ask for better reviews and I think I have my short.list clear. On a total different tack, do you harbour any plans to see what a Roon Rock NUC could do for your system. My fingers are itchy to try it and it seems sureproof to be a better way to run your ROON Core than on a comp that do everything else as well. What do you say???

Any compatible NUC i3 will do nicely for up to 2000 to 3000 albums. For up to 6009 to 8000 albums use a NUC i5. For more albums and/or heavy DSP work get a NUC i7. Always use an M.2 SSD as system drive and store music files on a separate drive. And yes, it’s the most robust way to run Roon.

Any plans to review the SMSL SU1 dac? It’s sound amazing for the price. Iv just purchased it to go with the wiim pro. £200 for both is a bargain streaming system.

Thank you for an excellent insight into the DMP A6. I was ready to buy it but thought I would search for more comparisons but I’m curious why this Eversolo rarely appears on any top 10 best streamer/dac lists at least that I’ve seen online?

Dear Hans, You measured both Eversolo DMP A6 and Wiim Pro and I have a question about Vrms on the RCA output. I own both devices and compared them using my integrated 2A3 amplifier. The Wiim was set to 2 Vrms via the settings found in the Wiim App. The Eversolo to its standard voltage. There is no way to set the Vrms on the eversolo, as far as I know. The SPL/volume was higher when the Wiim was connected. Of course, the same output volume was set on the amplifier. Do you know why?

The output voltage of the Eversolo is 2.5 volts, just below 2 dB higher than 2 volts.

Hi Hans, I love your reviews. I own a DMP-6 Master Edition directly on my active ATCs. Soundquality of (I believe) the volume control ist so bad, I testet a HoloAudio Spring3 with R2R volume control. Sound now is pretty good. How good ist the R2R Volume Control of the DMP-A8? I love to have only one deck.

The sound quality of the volume control is fine. I think you encountered a compatibility problem due to impedance matching . I don't think the A8 will solve that.

Love your nice easy-going reviews (and even music) Hans :) One correction I have to make is that you said both ever solos can do DSD256 Max while they actually can do DSD512 Max which is a rarity. Curiously, unless your external DAC test did not have an asynchronous USB input, I'm surprised you used the notoriously noisier digital connection. My big question remains is there still a $400 difference between the standard and the master ES if I use an external DAC (in my case an Oppo 205--which also can be connected with the HDMI in from this player). Still cannot find a definitive answer to this question. Edit: I now see that was purposeful because you found SPDIF digital superior to the USB which is very interesting. I'm pretty sure thats DAC dependent but with this unit you have all the different varieties you can try.

Thanks for sharing. In general (and not in the case of a specific DAC) I prefer SPDIF, although there are cases where the SPDIF is even worse than USB. With the Eversolo the SPDIF of the ME version is better than that of the standard version.

On any chance of getting your hands on the brand new DMP-A8? That has all the enhancements of the ME plus a linear power supply...plus of course that hot new AKM DAC. Supposed to be pretty impressive.

Mr Hans, first of all congratulations for your great youtube channel and all your youtube reviews, which can be a true model for all those who deal with audio equipment reviews. I can't wait to hear your comparison of A6 standard vs Master edition. For intermezzo before that one question...Is it your opinion that the difference between the a6 standard vs a6 master can be made up by a quality dac (say Ares II) if you in start buy a standard model? I'm thinking mainly of pure streaming use of the A6 (Tidal) and nothing else? Cheers!

I have the standard edition and I don’t have that volume slider on the side of the screen. I have one at the bottom of the screen only if I click on the bluetooth connection whilst in Spotify. Strange!

I had the Eversolo standard and it was very good using USB but not as good as my Ultra Rendu. The Rendu had more definition from top to bottom. Usability with the Eversolo was by far the best yet.

It is capable of PCM 192 kHz and DSD64 in 2 to 5.1 channels

There never is a 'separate' pre-amp in a streaming DAC or DAC. By adding a volume control and by using the input selector it can function as a digital pre-amp. If you don't want to use hit a a pre-amp, just have it start up with the volume control set to 0 dB.

That's only currently in the brand new A8 version but I heard they're working on something for the A6.

Howyougoingmateorright? Greetings from Australia. The concept of having Australian English is a beaut idea. I have a system sort of like your set up 2 and as I mainly listen to vinyl (Rega P8) I am missing a great deal of music that is not produced on vinyl. As a result the Eversolo looks like a great way to investigate unheard music. Thanks for two great reviews.

Wind digital out only SPDIF was tested, where A6 is the master clock, and clearly Master is better than Standard. But what about the USB, where DAC is the clock, how different are Standard vs Master? That would be far more important test since most people would use USB instead of SPDIF.

It can't. Compared to the best it's only 40% but then again it's only a few percents of the price of the best.

This was a great review and I’m seriously thinking to get one but I’m wondering how does it interact with the DAC on my SR7009 ? If I use HDMI does the Marantz dac work 100% of the sound ? If i use direct or pure direct does this take out the SR7009 dac? I would be grateful for advise. Thank you.

Whenever you use the digital connection the amp will have to do the digital to analog conversion. If you want the DAC inside the Eversolo, you connect it to the amp over analog connections (RCA).

opa1612 and 1642 are quite different in sound. 1612 is smoother on the highs and thicker on the bass, the 1642 has more details and a slightly boosted mid-high

Does anybody know how to change the volume I don’t mean louder I mean it seems to be preset with DB and I see some videos of it going from 0 to 100 that’s how I’d like to set it but I can’t seem to get it there

The volume for the analog outputs is always in dB's. The volume for the digital outputs is in numerical values between 1 and 15. As far as I can see this can not be changed.

Hi Hans, Please let me know If i am doing good with my Eversolo . I connected my Eversolo through RCA input to out input to my receiver/streamer Magnat MC 400 and my speakers Linton Heritage to Receiver Magnat. I had the standard version of the A6 for testing and was pleased in terms of use, but in terms of sound I liked the Bluesound Node 2i better. Node plays with a warm sound, closer, more tangible, the sounds are "thicker", strong, low tones color the midrange. Tremble are harder, more open, "with a claw".The A6 sounds more neutral, the sound is more withdrawn, more deep, "thin", vocals and low tones as if they were coming from behind the line of speakers. Tremble are calmer, more "tempered". The test was carried out on internal DACs, because I do not have an external one. To be clear, Node on standard power supply cannot match the A6. For the Node to take up an equal fight, the standard interface should be replaced with, for example, PD-Creative with an external power supply. I would recommend the A6 for warm, dense, close sounding speakers.

I found the A6 clearer, more dynamic, greater LF and HF extension than the standard Node 2i. Similar difference w an external Weiss DAC. Interestingly I didn't find the A6 overly bright with solid state (NAD) or tubes ( Elekit 300B). Node 2i is still a keeper.

​@@AudioTnT Yes, everything is better on the A6 compared to Node on standard power. Node is more boring, the sound is like "covered with a blanket". With better power supply, Node revives, the sound is more open, dynamic, spacious, clear. The A6 works better with solid state amps because the tremble is somewhat "tempered". Tremble in Node is more "alive". May be too bright for solid state amps. Personally, I have a Willsenton R8 tube amplifier and I had no problem with it.

I'll have to watch your speaker placement videos. These were my impressions in my listening conditions. I would love to read the opinions and observations of other users. Playing locally ripped files via SSD on the A6 sounds better (to my ears) than playing the CD via CD drive or a CD player using the A6 DAC. Is that because there are less timing errors/ jitter retrieving data from SSD than reading data from a CD in real time? If so, why are there new $$$ CD players coming to market (e.g. Hegel, Luxman)? Why not just get an Eversolo?

Because reading a cd is difficult when it needs to be done in real time. As is the case with cd players. When ripping the cd drive can read sections over again when an error occurs.

Great review. I have been enjoying the standard edition since May. I noticed that you did not mention the HDMI Audio Out. The main reason I purchased the DMP A6 was to use this feature to play DSD and PCM multichannel recordings via Roon. Although I have been able to play the PCM files successfully using the HDMI Out via Roon or a file, I have not been able to play DSD multichannel recordings either through or as a file. The nice folks at EverSolo in China have even gone as far as to purchase my exact DSD-capable receiver to troubleshoot the issue, but, thus far, no luck. Have you or any of your subscribers run into this issue? Thank you!

I'm about to get one of the models and run the HDMI into my Oppo 205 HDMI IN to do that very test...so I'll tell you soon what I find.

Which filter would you use for ultimate sound quality Hans? Or are the differences so small that it's not worth fretting about. I for one would appreciate a video from you explaining filters in hifi.

If you have a DLNA server program on your computer, that will index your music. If you use SMB (shared volume on your computer), it's just selecting folders.

Beware of system and software bugs. Many of them. Product is still too new. Wait for another year if you can wait. Bought this A6 and experienced frustration using it. They're using consumers as their free testers 😡. Their customer service is ridiculously bad and said that having bug is normal😱.

The software is rather stable. More stable than some others. And if there are bugs, they don't stand in the way of normal use.

Someone at Eversolo is obviously a master at marketing. Please don’t tell me its just that its allegedly a great product. There are and have been many great products but never have I seen almost all the hifi influencers / experts review and carry on about a product at the same time.

@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel My comment wasn’t about how great the product is but that it obviously has been marketed exceptionally well as it is everywhere in a way no other product in my experience has. It even came up n my facebook as a suggested group and no other hifi group has come up. As to its quality it seems to have great functionality but I have seen a few comments about its sound not being as good as alternatives in d/a conversion if my memory is correct but I haven’t heard any iteration of it to see how I like it or not.

well for the price dan quality it is unbeatable. I have sold 20 units eversolo dmp a6 in my country and all my customers love it. yes there are some bugs need to be iron out with updating firmware. the dac is rather bright for me.

I am using it as a digital transport with a Gustard R26 R2R Dac and the combo sounds better than anything I have ever heard !Very pleased ❤

And about Hdmi output ?? No review speaks about that and this too! And about Dmp A6 having an Hdmi arc also for music videos? And about testint the resolution and quality Audio in video clip???

I know that! But what is the audio quality on this device when we use the hdmi output to listen music? Nobody conect an hdmi cable to a dac pre amplier and test this device. And what I have sad earlier go beyond this question! Tidal and Apple and Napster have video clips. And what about this? Is there not music on the video? Well Let test the quality of the audio. I praise your audio measures made for to rhe 2 devices! This is evaluation!
