Instead of flying into Lukla, I hiked from Lamasungu, (near Jiri) to Kala Patter. Its about 100 miles. The year was 1981 and there were no Tea Houses; my trekking partner, Sherpa and I stayed with families who lived along the trail. It was winter so the only food available was Dal Bhat (Lentils and Rice). We only ran into 2 or 3 other hikers the whole time. My partner and Sherpa left me when we got to Tengpoche, so I had to finish the trek to Kala Patter alone. I hiked back to Lukla and flew back to Kathmandu. I can't believe the "luxuries" available on the trek these days.

Wow, that must be a great experience to stay with a family. It is a bit more commercialized these days but still an amazing experience!

@@travelwithfawn I didn't really have much interaction with the families we stayed with. We often arrived after dark (unannounced) and fire was the only source of light (and heat). After dinner, the fire soon went out and everyone went to sleep. The homes were made from stacked stone and were very cold seeing how it was winter. The following mornings, we were up early and after breakfast, we hit the trail.

I also trekked from Jiri enroute to Gokyo. I had already done EBC before then. This was in 2007.
This was a nostalgic trip back in time. I did this trek in 1982...over four decades ago. It was much different then - fewer people, perhaps more pristine and a lot more snow and ice! I loved your gentle narrative and wonderful shots. Some of my close friends and fellow adventurers from days past have departed to the great blue and all I have is memories and pictures of our adventures. Today's technology and intrepid travelers of the next generations - like you - allows seniors like me to be there "vicariously." Many thanks, safe travels and fair winds. Peace be with you.
Wow, incredible!! You manage to incorporate so much trip-specific information into a video that's still relaxing to watch. Super well done!!
Fawn this is the best video of this hike I have ever found! Thank you! I absolutely love the music, photos, and serenity of this. Can not wait to try and follow your itinerary! Beautiful. Thank you!
I went to EBC along the same route in 2005. Your video can recall a lot of beautiful memory for me. Thanks a lot
As being nepali high schooler, middle of preparation of my high school board exam, watching this breathtaking sceneries and majestic nature of our own country, i came to learn that from your vlogs, taking rough paths with determined heart can lead to the destination you have longed for.😊

As a Nepali, Do you think caste system matters in Hindu Caste system in Nepal?

@@srzsrz2049 first of all caste system is derived from Spanish and Portuguese 'casta' and was given to us by britisher's not by Hindus.
One of the best EBC videos that I've seen, thanks!
Arduous journey yet exhilarating when I see the beautiful peaks.
Hello Fawn, spectating from good old godzone NZ. Excellent shots throughout and love the commentary. Hope the high altitude sickness doesn't stay as I find quite often people can still trigger the memory even after a long time. I will taking references from your travel as I am hoping to be able to do similar trek with my wife in 2024. Thanks for taking time and great effort to put up such an interesting travel blog.
Thsi is beyond spectacular my friend, absolutely majestic scenery! Your shots are so nicely executed!

The scene on Mount Everest is very beautiful. Thank you for your video. Loved it watching.
Great job! Lots of good info plus love your maps
Such I am honestly appreciated what you're doing along with your activities. Far from simply creating content, it seems that you are doing this from the heart. It seems so natural and totally local cultural with adventure vlog. You are the one of the few KZreadrs. Thank you so much for exploring information about Nepalese real & natural beauty...............
Beautifully photographed and edited Fawn. Really enjoyed it. I am doing EBC this Oct 1-14 and so looking forward to it. Great work!! Namaste
Incredible ❤… when I saw the sun set and the orange color I got Goosebumps
Awesome video. Thanks for taking the time to share. 😊
This is the best everest base camp video I‘ve seen yet. You really captured the land and the people not just the trail 😊
Very enjoyable vlog. I liked the pacing of your presentation, you showed a lot of different things and did not dwell on any one scene. Your pleasant voice and the nice music added to the enjoyment of your vlog.
wow... Super well done!! Thank you so much for exploring information about Nepalese real & natural beauty...... Your shots are so nicely executed!........Thank you for the detailed overview of EBC trek. Stay safe in the mountains

Fawn, you are an incredible filmmaker, I really enjoyed the video. Thank you so much for visiting my beautiful motherland country Nepal🇳🇵take care. (I am a Nepali living in Norway).
This is such a beautiful video. Thank you for shearing this video.
Explored awesome places. Most trouble some journey being high altitude & rocky way. Gorgeous land scape & scenic route. Thanks for exhibiting wonderful Everest & monastry
Wonderful endeavor at the Nepal, south side of Mt. Chomolungma. A broader view of this mountain from the base camp at north side is at the mercy of the weather of course.
Very nicely and skillfully covered and explained the entire journey from starting point to the base camp. This is on my wishlist too.Hope to see more of your amazing content in the future!!

First of all Thank for visit in Nepal and explorer about Nepal beauty nature into the world. Hope it was fantastic trip.lots love from Nepalese.❤🇳🇵
You did a spectacular job of video and articulate narration! Many years ago I trekked from Lomasongu on the chinese nepal road to Pumori/ Kala Pattar which was the only way in. Lukla was not a tourist airport yet. Many climbers walking in and I was with the Japanese Lotse Mountain Expedition for much of there trek and some climb. Alot has changed but still is so awesome and you did it! Thanks for your story!

Hi Fawn, thanks for sharing this video. Today is the first time i stumble upon your channel. I must congratulate you for making such an excellent vlog! I normally see youtube postings at 1.75x speed. But this was different. Enjoy every minute of it and it was like watching an informative and interesting documentary done by a pro. I picture myself walking to EBC in that 30 minutes (minus the hard physical labor of hiking 😅). Best wishes in your future hikes and keep up the nice work. I am sure you will have many subscribers in a year's time.

15 years ago Gorak Shep was a lot smaller. I climbed KP in the morning dark walking on snow that had fallen the night before. After sunrise the snow melted making the descent treacherous.
