Been going to Nepal for 20 years and totally agree on your attitude towards having a porter. But as for meat and water. Never treated water and eat the meat and in 20 years never gotten sick. Shonas alpine is one of Thamel's best shops. No bullshit advice and have never tried to sell me something I do not need. In fact often talk me out of things. If you are there during dry seasons and not the heart of winter, to be fair, a pair of runners is more than adequate to walk in.

We also had a great experience at Shonas! Only during the last two days did we feel like we needed anything more than runners, but mostly because of the temperature, not because we were slipping around. What an awesome experience...we totally understand why someone would go 20 years!

Dang, I miss Thamel road. I took extra 4 day to stay in Kathmandu during my Annapurna trip and most of my time there was at Thamel. Anyway thanks for the video as i planning to trek EBC on March next year.

We stayed in Thamel 5 extra days after our trek as well. Such an awesome place to relax and soak up the city after a crazy trek. So awesome that you are going back for the EBC! Have a blast!

Awesome video, guys! You were ahead of your time with the masks 🤣. I'm really hoping to do this trek soon. Not sure how much visa/pass issues have changed from covid but it seems they've opened back up.

Porters at 9:30 : Tourist porter max load is actually 30 kg, not 20. Of course they want to make things easier. You should realise that commercial cargo porters carry an average of 80 kg, and many routinely carry even 100-120 kg day in day out. You get to witness this during the EBC trek many times. Tourist porters have it easy and get paid better also.

Thanks Stuart! We went in March which can be really cold but has beautiful sunny skies. It was perfect. We've heard October and November are great weather too if we ever decide to go back :)
