I think both PTT and SPP had their ups and downs and were very great restaurants. However, if you gave me a choice, I'd go for SPP just because of the Rock AFire Explosion.

@KentuckyWallChicken Same here. The PTT animatronics are awesome and all, but the Rock-afire Explosion easily beats them. Also, the Rock afire Explosion is the best animatronic band of all time :)

I think Showbiz was better by a landslide. At least on my opinion. The animatronics were 100x better then the PTT ones. PTT is still awesome though.

They both have their own merits. Back then, the CEC tapes were written with better jokes while the RAE tapes had both good music and animatronics. Personally, if they just joined the characters as separate shows in separate sides of the building instead of just reskinning all the RAE as CEC and kept the jokes, music and animatronics as the same quality as before (maybe rebuilding the CEC characters with better mechanics), then maybe it would make it all better. Then again, that’s just my opinion.

Both Chuck E. Cheese's and Showbiz Pizza had worked like magic. As you know, in the early '90s, Chuck E. and his Make-Believe Band have taken over the Rock-Afire Explosion stage show at Showbiz Pizza and soon renamed it "Chuck E. Cheese's Pizza". And I hear that some CEC fans were very excited about the new Chuck E. Cheese stage show while the Showbiz fans were pretty upset.

I remember one of my teachers who went to the Springfield IL PTT said the food taste like cardboard or plastic. From what I understand, the food quality for both establishments was improved by the time of the merger.

Man, it was dark when Scott exited both PTT and SPP but bright when he got to PTT. How many hours did he spend at PTT?

Yeah, I kinda agree that Showbiz was aimed more towards teens and Chuck E Cheese was aimed more towards the kiddies. I recall having my birthday at Showbiz in 86(I was around 5), and most of the people around were teens. I recall Showbiz being more darker inside, with more focus on arcade games. On the other hand, Chuck E Cheese was more brighter, and all the Chuck E Cheeses I went to focused more on games like Skeeball, with few arcade games.

I wish I could taste the Pizza's from Showbiz Pizza.

Cheese's Pizza Time Theatre: 5572 Springdale Ave., Pleasanton, CA ShowBiz Pizza Time: 7590 Amador Valley Blvd., Dublin, CA The ShowBiz Pizza Time in Dublin, CA first opened for business on April 21, 1982 and was the very first ShowBiz Pizza Place store to open in said state. It closed in December 1985, likely due to SPP's cost-cutting measures following its merger with PTT. However, a Chuck E. Cheese's opened in this same city nine years later (at 7448 Amador Valley Blvd.), which is still open today.

Here's a scary thought. CEC pizza was actually good once. Now, they're so notoriously awful that being negatively compared to them was enough for Domino's to make their stuff not taste like cardboard.

I mean if they're still passionate about it, they wouldn't have ever thought of the Dance Floor, which is already more boring than Studio C. Aaron Fechter himself would never ever think of that idea for the Rock afire Explosion.

I grew up in this area (East Bay) in the 80's but never been to Showbiz Pizza.

Holy crap! And I thought the mechanical show they have now was scary.

It's hard to tell that this PTT is now a Designs School of Cosmetology.

I thought they were the same place! Our Showbiz Pizza here in Ft. Smith, Ark changed it's name to chuck e cheese years ago. Same location same animatronic (spooky)characters. Same everything just a different sign.

My hippie parents never took me to either. I got screwed!

I guess the food was better at PTT and the entertainment was better at SPP

I love both Pizza Time Theatre and Showbiz Pizza Place. But if I get to choose, I pick Showbiz just because of the Rock afire Explosion :) In a side note: Doesn't Scott Diviney look quite similar like Scott Wilson, Chuck E Cheese's former voice actor since the mid 80's to early 90's? They both even coincidently have the same first name. I always thought that lol

i probably wouldn't even care about the food quality, the quality of the animatronics and show writing and voice acting and music is a million times better at showbiz

I never even watched the video yet and showbiz was better hands down.

In 1984 or 85 we lost our Showbiz due to bad management and loss of money. Many years later we got a Chuck E. Cheese that is still here. They don't take care of it letting kids hang on Jaspers arms so that they had to move them up. Kids stole the mics from Chuck E. and Helen, and drum sticks from the drummer. You can't hear the show unless there is a birthday. When it says "Makebelieve Band" They aint kidding.

I miss that chuck E. I remember mine had it. But I think they changed the outfit to the new one. Well not the newest. Not at least sience I've been there at least.

Cute story... Well, throughout my entire childhood, I went to a Chuck E. Cheese's... ONCE! The Pizza Time Players really scared the heck out of me! And you know what? I never went back since. If I have children myself, hopefully that fear will be conquered.

Chuck-E-Cheese and Showbiz Pizza were so cool in the 80's. Anyone from age 1 to 18 could go there and have a pretty good time. Have you seen Chuck-E-Cheese lately??? It sux! My sister took me their with her kids and the whole place was geared towards BABIES! If you are over 6 years old the entire place is way too babyish! I saw a few 10 year olds looking bored out of their minds!

@sygo7g i agree. when i was young we were tought not to do the things kids get away with now. it's ridiculouse. i am just glad my grandma is not here to see that it has gotten worse since us. she did not like the change of the way people brought up their kids from her days she would defently hate it now.

I get annoyed when fans fight over whether SPP is better than CEC or whether CEC is better than SPP. Just shut it and enjoy the pizza robots, it's not one size fits all.

MrBobTomato It was, but only when Rock-afire was playing. The overhead lights would dim at the start of the show just before the curtains opened up. The seating area was raised above the walkways and there were mini-lights built into the backs of the adjacent seats as well as lighted floor runners on the stairs. That's how it was at the Showbiz where I grew up. Others might have been different.

@kennyrr Check out the documentary about the Rock a Fire Explosion. There was more to the story than that. I felt it was dirty business. Aaron said that they wanted the copyrights to the show and he would have no say in what they did. I can't blame him there.

They both look cool but ShowBiz Pizza is a lot better than the Pizza Time Theatre

The kinds of music that the Rock Afire Explosion performed there at that time appealed teenagers of the early 80's since the Rock Afire Explosion was more on the rock and roll side compared to the kid friendly Chuck E Cheese Pizza Time Theater.

I love both equally! They are awesome, they both have good things about them. I like both their animatronics in different ways, Chuck E. Cheese cyberamics have this magic feel to them, but Showbiz animatronics has a cooler more realistic feel.

People usually prefer the Rock afire Explosion because they feel the RAE has better covers, better writing, better characters, and more advance animation. Which is also my case as well, I enjoy CEC(Mainly the old shows), but I still enjoy the Rock afire Explosion more, I find the RAE shows more fun and awesome than anything what CEC offers. So it has nothing to do with the RAE being scary( Which it isn't scary at all). You're just scared of animatronics who don't harm you at any fashion, which is embarrassing by the way. What also pisses me off is that you try to insult RAE fans by saying they prefer animatronics that are "scarier", which shows how disrespectful you are and how close-minded you are. Let us enjoy what we want! Why don't you go troll somewhere else!

What do you think I am 8? I LOVE animatronics... I just judged the cover of the book. And my mind is somewhere near the PTT era. I’m not as close minded as you think I am... not as I was before. I have some soft spots for the RAE but I’m more into the direction of PTT just for you to understand. CEC is great and all. But Showbiz Pizza Place has the Rock afire Explosion, which is the best animatronic show of all time. And besides, the Rock afire Explosion would of still survived in Showbiz if it weren't for Showbiz screwing over Creative Engineering(Company who made the Rock afire Explosion shows). Also Showbiz bought and own the Chuck E Cheese characters since the mid-80's.

The creator of showbiz singed a contract to open multiple chuckecheese pizza time theatre a around the world but during the construction of the first location he decided to steal the idea but change it up breaking the contract if anything showbiz is the ripoff but there both amazing so shut your mouth
