It deserves an Absolute.

A recent one for me is Double Walker by Michael W. Conrad and Noah Bailey. It's a horror comic where a couple take a trip to Scotland before the birth of their child. Murders start to happen in the town they're staying in, and it spirals down from there. It was published through ComiXology Originals last year, and is getting a physical tpb release through Dark Horse soon.

Alex Ross is amazing. His paintings and artwork remind me so much of Norman Rockwell. Alex Ross had to of been influenced by him when he started learning how to draw and paint; just look at some of the 'Saturday Evening Post' covers. Some of them are pretty close to a comic book cover format. I absolutely love Norman Rockwells artwork, I have a bunch of his paintings(obviously not originals), and cups, plates, and figurines with his paintings on them, and even a couple books of his artwork. Okay I'm writing a book here.

Old Man Logan was so creative. And Thanos Wins was very creative too. I come from Dragon Ball Z so seeing powers fuse and alternate heroes/villians with venom mixed in them or turned evil is so cool to me.

One of the ones that I always recommend is The Last Ronin because as long as you have a basic understanding of TMNT The Last Ronin is one of the best stories ever told the new hard cover way is the way to read it its best read back to back or in a few shorter sittings I read it in 1 day because I couldn't put it down.

best graphic novel EVER: Dropsie Avenue by Will Eisner - it's not just a story about different people but the background is the history of immigration to America - from the first Dutch settlers in New Amsterdam to germans, english, jewish and so on. It's a definitly must read for anyone who enjoyes graphic novels

My favorite "graphic novel" was Mister Miracle too and yeah I know it might not be for everyone, but the idea of a guy who gives up on life, and then has to find meaning again, meant a lot to me, especially when I read it, because I felt a lot like Scott did And i feel it's overlooked.

The amount of philosophy and existentialism in that book was extraordinary. The onnnly down side (and this is getting picky) were the panel lay outs. They stuck to mostly simple 9 panels per page. The writing was amazing, like world class good and the art is really gorgeous…I just personally thought they could have down a biiiit more with panel and page layouts. Maybe that was intentional though, idk. Either way, Mister Miracle is one of my favourite stand alone stories ever. Tom King is incredible. I got to read Strange Adventures and Visions next!

I disliked the lack of build up and the lack of consequence and the lack of physical conflict.

Terry Moore is sooo good.

Interesting list. I would have 2 great additions though :) The 1st one is Sheriff of Babylon and tells the story of a mysterious murder that happened during the training of the new police officers in Iraq. Written by Tom King, a former CIA officer with art provided by Mitch Gerads. A great political crime-thriller, very well written with a great cast of characters. The story is actually deeper than the surface suggests - it’s about choices and consequences but also about a man that does not fully understand the context of the situation he’s involved in. The 2nd one is Carbone & Silicium written and drawn Mathieu Bablet. Story follows the life of two sentient robots as they experience the fall of mankind. It’s hard to write anything about the story as even a little detail can spoil the fun. What’s actually worth saying is that it is a great, amazing, wonderful story about love (both parental and romantic), choices and consequences and about different approach to live a individual can have. It is absolutely brilliant, with deep and emotional story and great characters. It’s a difficult read, sometimes quite sad but still filled with hope. A must read IMO.

One book I always recommend as a standalone story is God Country by Donny Cates. In my opinion, a near perfect comic. Other ones I would add would be stuff like Primordial by Jeff Lemire/Andrea Sorrentino, Strange Adventures by Tom King/Doc Shaner/Mitch Gerads, and The Wake by Scott Snyder/Sean Murphy.

I would recommend checking out "The Keeper" by Tamarive Due and Steven Barnes. It's a YA thriller/horror, with themes of loss and hope and found family, centering around a young girl of color as she finds her way in the world after tragedy, and the mystical forces being unhelpful with that.

Some worthwhile titles, but it would be great, as far as graphic novels go, we start expanding into some of the stuff done through crowdfunding. Some really amazing work there. Instead of just the usual labels.

Oh my gosh- I know I’m super late, but if you love sci-fi and romance, Project Nought by Chelsey Furedi has to be my FAVORITE stand alone graphic novel. Look up the plot, highly recommended!!!

They are great.

Monsters by Barry Windsor-Smith is one I’d add to the list. A kid is recruited by the military for a genetics experiment, which the recruiter later regrets. The book deals with family trauma and other issues, completely different from anything I would normally read. The Long Halloween is a good one and done Batman read. They did release a follow up last year, but I haven’t read it and heard it isn’t necessary.

Loved Monster. It was on my top 10 reads of 2021/ so good. Sadly the long Halloween one shot was just okay. And sadly we won’t get any more.

You love him as a writer? Does he fascinate you that much? Saying that you love Warren Ellis these days does not bode well for your credibility, friend. Using the word "love" and warren ellis is like saying " I still love Joss Whedon, despite him being a piece of shit narcissist, bully and all around manipulative tool who used the pretense of being a feminist to actually prey on certain vulnerable women during his work on Buffy and Angel." But....but, he's still great? No, he isn't. His Astonishing Xmen run was great. most of it. His first Avengers movie directing job was fantastic. I would always give him that. I never cared for his tv series. I was not a big Buffy fan nor did I like Firefly that much. Warren Ellis, from I hear as a human being and as a man, he's big FAILURE and a creep. Just letting you know. This list was good from Omar but I never liked Ellis' dumb comic Nextwave Agents of Hate. I just found it a cliched cartoon joke and a forgettable mini series. He did some good comics for marvel, image, etc. I liked Warren Ellis' Thunderbolts run very much. His Moon Knight story arc was cool, but not amazing. His Iron Man Extremis story was good, but he isn't one of my favorite writers even before I heard from NMC and Omni bros about his ugly manipulative past grooming some female co workers and all that shit. Fuck that guy.

I just bought Joe the Barbarian Deluxe HC for £2.91 on Amazon, bargain! I've got Kingdom come. Little Bird looks interesting, on my list My recommend for a book is 'Summer Magic: The Complete Journal of Luke Kirby' about a boy magician much darker than and predates Harry Potter ( Books of Magic predates HP too, you wonder where JK got her ideas from)
