@@bumblerbreeyeah I was gonna say. Gaslighting is an attempt to make a person doubt their reality and perceptions and think they’re crazy. Cathy tried to make him think he’s completely off for even suspecting her, and that he offended her honor when he expressed his discomfort with her actions. Reversal of victim/offender. He even apologizes to her, buying into her distortion of reality. She went way beyond “oh, I just don’t understand what you’re talking about.” This is really manipulative in a way that is typically identified as “gaslighting.” That said, Jim shouldn’t have fallen for it for even a second, he should’ve just been firm and kicked her out.

The amount of people in these comments calling Jim out for not immediately calling Cathy out is wild to me. He's secure in his relationship with Pam, thought he and Cathy were just good friends and was afraid he was reading into stuff too much. As someone who has had all of those feelings, i think Jim handled it pretty much exactly the way he could've been expected to. Immediately kicking her out just isn't his personality. Say what you will about that, but I guarantee at least half of the people commenting here would not do what they're saying Jim should've done.

I had a Jim & Cathy situation on a business trip many years ago. Was married, had a single female coworker who kept finding excuses to come by my room just to bs... with wine. I made good choices that trip, but it took more willpower than I'm comfortable admitting. The thing about boundaries is that other people like to test them, and you're in a precarious place if the only thing holding them up is willpower.

Had JIM cheated, I along with many others would have stopped watching. It would have ruined the whole story line and they couldn’t have recovered. It didn’t fit his character at all. I just want to smack out the idea (figuratively of course) from the horrible writer who suggested it. I have tremendous respect for John who knew his character and put his foot down. He saved the storyline and show! Thank you

@some__random__guy you failed to mention that David bringing in Charles to micro manage Michael annoyed him. Also that David Wallace didn't respect and appreciate Michael's birthday plans which triggered Michael. All those came together which led to him resigning on the spot. It wasn't just because Michael 'gets mad'. Michael throws tantrums all the time but he rarely gets legit mad There's a difference between oversimplying and summarizing. You still need to capture the main points which Cathy didn't have basically to begin with which is the original point

@@bruce2953 It doesn’t change the fact he quit because he was mad at David. Like I said before, I simplified just as much as this guy did as there are much more to all three of the storylines being discussed here but again like I said before if you wanna make them sound dumb you can.

Everybody misses the point: Pam had Jim as her backup when she stopped liking warehouse guy. Pam goes to art school away from Jim, leaving him to suffer again as he hears her on the phone partying with other guys. Also, Pam holds him back making him leave his dream company when it was taking off. And perhaps most telling of how much control Pam has in this relationship, Jim loses his composure at the hint that some other girl might like him. Don’t misunderstand me, it’s not wrong that he is faithful, what is wrong is that he loses his mind and calls co-workers to help deal with the situation. What would Pam had done, one has to wonder?

Yeah, I'm so very glad the show didn't end up going with Jim having an affair. I know I would have immediately stopped watching it since instead of a comedy with some drama it would have become a depressing Lifetime movie with an occasional joke. It's like Jim and Pam's relationship was what so many fans of the show were rooting for for so long, why would anyone be happy to see it collapse. It even depressed me in the later seasons when they were fighting cause of Jim taking that other job.
