“Even Archangel Gabriel would not have been able to win this election”: former UK Minister

"Even the Archangel Gabriel would not have been able to win this election": Former British Deputy Foreign Secretary, Andrew Mitchell, to Karan Thapar for The Wire.
...........................................
In an interview to talk about the stunning defeat faced by the Conservative Party in Britain last week as well as Rishi Sunak’s legacy as the first non-white Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Britain’s former Deputy Foreign Secretary, Andrew Mitchell, says: “Even the Archangel Gabriel would not have been able to win this election”. He says the Conservatives have won four consecutive elections and no party in Britain’s history has ever won five on the trot.
In a 17-minute interview to Karan Thapar for The Wire, Andrew Mitchell, a former Secretary of State for International Development and now Conservative MP for Sutton Coldfield, which makes him one of the 121 Conservative MPs to have got re-elected, described Rishi Sunak as an “outstanding public servant”. Amongst Rishi Sunak’s achievements, Mr. Mitchell listed bringing stability to British politics, respectability to the office of Prime Minister and restoring a measure of health to the British economy. In particular, Mr. Mitchell mentioned reducing inflation to 2%. However, Mr. Mitchell accepted that the Conservatives failed to effectively tackle immigration as well as the state of the National Health Service. He agreed taxes were high but that is substantially because of measures Rishi Sunak had to take as Chancellor of the Exchequer during Covid. Now, they have to be paid for.
Mr. Mitchell accepted that for many people Rishi Sunak’s lasting legacy will be that he was Britain’s first non-white Prime Minister, adding that this was not considered remarkable by the British and that is a measure of the extent to which the United Kingdom has changed.
It’s widely believed that Mr. Mitchell will be appointed the new Shadow Foreign Secretary when Rishi Sunak announces the shadow cabinet. However, this is not as yet confirmed.
I am only giving you the big main points made by Andrew Mitchell. As someone who’s won 11 elections and first became an MP in 1987, there are few members of the Conservative Party who are in a better position - both in terms of experience and understanding - than Andrew Mitchell when it comes to explaining the Tory response to their defeat and assessing Rishi Sunak’s legacy as Prime Minister.

It's striking how bitter Indian politics is compared to UK. If BJP would have got 400 seats, they would have been vowing to finish off the opposition.

The difference between Indian and British MPs is that the former is the master of the people and the later is the servant of the people. Didn't this makes sense? Indian politicians must learn from Britain politicians. Congratulations to labour Party. Remember this is the same party that 🇮🇳 achieved independence in 14th August 1947.

Since the British were masters of the Indian people, there is kind of p(olitical)oetic justice in Indian MPs turning masters of the British people. In any event you have no right to complain.

But, the interviewer here takes pride in being a subject of British monarchy. He continues to regret till this day why the British left at all. We have thousands of like subjects who hail British days. They, like Karan ji here, invoke their self-respect only as Indian or a Hindu. Congrats sir.

The only reason Rishi Sunniak became PM was not because people in UK lived him so much or even his ideology, but because he is Billionaire (not self made billionaire but wife made, father-in-law billionaire) who bought MPs to became PM. Its inevitable that Rishi going down the toilet.

The Conservative party leaders wanted Sunak as PM after Johnson but the party members chose a less qualified Liz Truss. Karan should have brought this up.

Wokeness is spreading all over the world. People are more concerned about gender and skin colour, rather than actual competence and ability in leaders. The U.S. VP is another such example.

From the first half, that is all I could muster, I like English Mustard, the British are going the Greek way in policy irrespective whether there would have been a Frexit. Because by today, French republic proves it's mettle that they sourced the knife once. Now the issue is not Rishi Sunak only, he was just one guy and there are parodies of the stuff as Scissorhands, Johny Depp style for who care. It is the Jerries who decide on Russia and stuff, which is not so pleasant at all, here in India, to see, today the visit. I guess, they have a two-front war, like Pak and China, but if you believe SS Menon, no, if you believe Chinese, well you have to get statistics on Mandarin and Cantonese opinion to see exactly what they think. In Hindi, it is all about wondering what happened to Hingalaj where I sit. Thanks, no political motive here. Edit a few hours later - kzread.info/dash/bejne/g4F-utR_qrnghbw.htmlsi=DgS-lZFCbht1zV6W

I began investing in stocks and Def earlier this year, and it is the best choice l've ever made. My portfolio is rounding up to almost a million, and I have realized that when a stock makes it to the news. Chances are you're quite late to the party, the idea is to get in early on blue chips before it becomes public. There are lots of life changing opportunities in the market, and maximize it
