Evanescence and Linkin Park got me through a very dark phase of my life. I cannot speak for everybody, but the sentiment from me at the time was that if your child was listening to either of these two bands, it might have been a good idea to just check in on how they are doing. Amy and Chester spoke to me in ways that no other musicians could. It was like they understood my pain.

I love "Tourniquet" I thought they'd never put it on the radio at least not the original recording of the song, but they did in the city I live in. I was so surprised.🎤

Amy does what is often called cry singing. Using some of those same sounds in her lyrics. Very effective and haunting.

Their "You Never Call Me When You Are Sober" video is a must. Sweet Sacrifice is another banger.

@@MrConstant23. At this point it very much is a band and when Ben Moody left it was felt. Amy is definitely the face and the voice, but Ben was a BIG portion of the artistry.

Absolutely one of the prettiest voices to come out of Arkansas.

"An angel rising out of the ashes" is a perfect analogy for what I first felt hearing this song. Lex, you are the KZread Queen of musical interpretation.

there's something special about beautiful feminine voices in the midst of the chaos. Perhaps it speaks to my primal nature, the angel in the battlefield keeping me fighting for survival

I know people will say this is wrong, but I’ve seen interviews of Japanese female rock bands say that Evanescence was some of their inspiration. This explains a lot of the NOW harsh music with soft female vocals in today’s popular J-rock & metal.

actually no early nightwish and some of the 90s gothic metal bands like tristania and theatre of tragedy the main inspiration for many women fronted metal bands but i see why evanescence get the cake bcuz they were mainstream

Amy Lee has the voice of an angel

Amy Lee has such a powerful voice. Edit: Evanescence is probably the most dramatic example of the contrast of a high, clear piercing voice set against a hard rock background, but if you are looking something similar in other bands, you might check out the contrast between Babymetal's Su-Metal and her backing Kami Band in "Rondo of Nightmare" Live at Budokan. Ditto for Bring Me The Horizon's "Kingslayer" which also features Su-Metal contrasted with the band's heavy growls.

Just barely on this listen I thought of the similarity to Babymetal that way. It's a super interesting parallel.

Her voice always reminded me visually of Eve. When God put Adam into a deep sleep and took his rib and made her. I feel like when she opened her eyes and spoke she said " I " the same way Amy said " I die again. " How she stretched out and screamed " I " is her speaking into existence. Her voice is a gift

Amy Lee is such a powerful singer. I highly recommend checking out the live acoustic version of this song from back in the day.

She could sing the phone book contents and I'd pay to see it in concert lol! She is an angel! I absolutely love her version of Sally's Song from The Nightmare Before Christmas by Tim Burton. It's hauntingly beautiful and in the live version she not only plays the piano but ends it playing the harp! There is nothing she can't do!

My love for female singers with both powerful AND beautiful voices started a long time ago with Pat Benatar and has evolved to Amy Lee and Lizzy Hale. And wouldn't you know it.... they did a song together called "Break In" that's a total eargasm!!

This ENTIRE album was amazing! I remember going on a pre-order list, waiting for this album to drop and my music store to call me that they had it in. I left work when I got the call, rushed to the store, bought it, and listened to it the rest of the day at the office. Not a bad song on the album.

This song, and as a whole the band Evanescence, works because Amy Lee has such a powerful voice to pair to the instruments. She is classically trained and can hit all the notes. And there is just something special about that blend of pure vocal power colliding with the messy rock instrumentals that makes for some of the best songs. "Going Under" in particular brings it all together perfectly. Crazy thing, even after 20 years, Amy is still belting this song out with the same power & clarity, if not even more. Great reaction!

Amy says that Imaginary has been and always be in every concert because it reminds her of what their sound was supposed to be.

Really the only female rock singer i really liked. her voice really shined through.

Most of my favorites are songs that are hard and soft at the same time. Queensryches album Rage for order has that feel. Although not female vocals, it has that layered and atmospheric sound. The song Neue Regel is one of the best. It would be great to see you react to that one.

Amy Lee made this about getting out of an abusive relationship, just made her a stronger woman. And there’s no denying she’s a rock star!

It’s not just about listening to the music its about feeling the music too, go on a journey with it

Please do yourself the justice of watching and listening to the official music video in your own time. The extra audio layers added and the the whole visual experience will definitely hype you up so much more than just the audio, which I must say is genius. Amy Lee can do no wrong.

If you haven't already heard it, I'd recommend their song "My Last Breath". It has one of the *best* little guitar riffs that always makes me feel shiny when I hear it 😁

Especially when you know what the song is about. Same with "Never Go Back" and "My Heart Is Broken".

She's most recognized for her KZread vids playing to classic songs, but she's now starting to release original stuff. SHE IS 12 YEARS OLD, yet plays at a top skill level. Amy Lee's voice is definitely angelic. Have you listened to other tracks from Evanescence like, Tourniquet, Lithium, Cloud 9, The Only One? She makes a simple noise in, I think it's Cloud 9, that's just her going "uh uh" that is hypnotizing. Only Amy could make a simple noise sound heavenly.

Brad, you need to incorporate the "Power Sway" into your arsenal. It is very useful when dealing with Evanescence and similar bands. It is similar to a simple sway, but there are "punctuations" when either the bass/drums or a singer hits an emotional point.

Lithium is another great song to do.

your really going to like "Missing" by them.

My favorite Evanescence song is Haunted.

Now you need to check out LZZY Hale in the band Halestorm. LZZY and Amy do an amazing song together as well, the song is called "break in".

Amy Lee has a great rock voice and the band does rock hard. Love this song. Can't hear too much of this band.

Snow White Queen, and Like You... both great songs

The official video is a must see.

Heavy music with angelic voices ... the name of this genre is gothic-metal. Nightwish, The Gathering, Within Temptation, Tristania, Leaves' Eyes, Epica are other bands like this.

Definitely recommend a band called In This Moment.

Her falsettos (also like in Weight of the World) are incredible.

Another recommendation: try Amy Lee's version of Led Zep's "Going to California". It's a soft song, definitely not metal, but it is stunning.
