Agreed. It’s difficult to imagine a significant improvement in accuracy and decision-making skills with such an increase in competition, even if he’s had some years to work on his craft. It was the same issue with Joe Milton who was also roughly at 50% in HS. Tbf, Orji is definitely more of an athlete/runner so it might not matter as much. Player development is also miles better than when Milton played. If he does have it figured out, the sky is the limit

Ooo, I'm going to have to disagree with you strongly (but friendly!) about Orji being able to easily replace most of JJ's passing production. JJ and the Michigan passing game absolutely feasted on routes over the middle; mostly intermediate routes. To hit those effectively and with the consistency JJ did, you have to be extremely accurate. Not only in hitting your receiver but also throwing it to the right "part" of the receiver. There is nothing in Orji's past (HS or in college, spring game included) that shows he has the level of accuracy required to make those throws. Overthrowing WRs over the middle, or too far in front or behind, is a recipe for turnovers. And to get the most out of Michigan's biggest weapon, Colston Loveland, whoever is QB will have to be able to throw over the middle. If Orji is QB the offense will require a much different passing attack, one that won't be able to fully utilize Loveland; at least if they try to use Loveland and the TEs anything like they did last year. That's why I think Tuttle is likely to win ultimately. I'm almost tempted to say Warren maybe ahead of Orji. I think Orji is going to play. I just don't think he'll be the starting QB when the season opens.

I was going to give you a thumbs up until you said Tuttle is your guy. Geez, Louise, if Tuttle is our guy, we may as well put Jayden Davis in, as this guy said. Tuttle, as we all know, is a 7-year guy who has never proven anything other than being a backup everywhere he's been. Give me Warren. Give me Davis. Two reasons why Davis Warren must be the starter come week 1- MERIT and MORALE. His performance in the spring game was McCarthy-esque. Two passing touchdowns on 9 attempts. Both touchdowns were 40+ yards, and he threw another 35+ yard pass for good measure. 136 passing yards on 9 attempts is a shade over 15 yards per attempt.... McCarthy-esque. Additionally, as the college football fan base learns his story, and the impossible challenges that he has already overcome( Leukemia as a High School junior), it is literally impossible to root against Davis Warren. As a matter of fact, even the most bitter of rivals will find themselves rooting for DW to shine. Lastly, I don't like the notion of talking about QBs in a vacuum. It's easy to envision Davis and Donovan having a Kurt Warner/Marshall Faulk ceiling. I don't see any natural comparison, and therefore replicable paradigm for any of the other QBs, with any of our offensive weapons.

Probably but he a 7th year player that's not in the NFL scout team or next level QB. There is concerns with him even though he played for Indiana and could beat out there QB. He been injury prone so I would pass on him and put him last on this list. Put the other 3 QB in yes they going to make mistakes and Michigan loses 2 to 4 games because of QB wr online play it happens. Michigan not a school that reloads but they do rebuild up to 3 to 5 years players to step in well that's what previous coaching staff did

Warren is the most polished QB on the team and he was JJ backup beating out Cade two years ago. Davis has an NFL arm and accuracy. He was also projected to be a top QB until he got sick. And Warren actually threw the ball a couple times coming in for JJ. Orji couldn’t hit an open deep WR.

I believe Denagel will transfer out at some point. Tuttle is 3rd on the depth chart. He is the bigger, faster and more talented QB vs. Davis Warren, but sometimes those attributes get trumped by the QB that best conducts the offense and produces. Davis Warren in my mind is #2. He throws a good deep ball and is mechanicaly sound. Whether or not he can produce in game time is remained to be seen, but I think he gives you the most J.J. McCarthy like if Sheronne Moore wants to emulate a similar offense as last season. I think Sheronne Moore will go with Alex Orji, because Moore is old school run heavy, with modern formations and concepts. Our WR room returns little production, but we have good TEs. We are the Baltimore Ravens on offense and defense.

J.J. had some crazy 3rd-down conversion rate. He found a way to get it done with his arm or his legs. None of the QBs mentioned here have that quality (not Orji). But, if we get QB who slings the ball downfield, it will open up our run game. If put in a QB who can't throw, expect to see our run game get stuffed over and over (we don't have a crazy-good O-line this year).

I'm a JJ fan but Orji can run this offense. He'll bring some things to the table that JJ did not or was not asked to do. He'll probably complete around 60%-62% of his passes (high school is high school. Michigan is Michigan) and his escapability and running prowess will be off the charts for what we're used to here at Michigan. I'm willing to give him a chance. I'll trust the coaches decisions, no matter what they do, because they've earned it and see these guys every day.

If I had to put money on who will start Game 1, it would be Tuttle. All the reporting lately says it's a two horse race between Tuttle and Orji. Simply put, the thinking is Tuttle is less likely to make mistakes. Orji will see snaps, probably between 8-15 a game, but the thought is Tuttle gives them the best chance to move the chains, protect the ball and let the defense win the games. Orji clearly has the higher ceiling but Tuttle clearly has the higher floor. Maybe Warren will make it a 3 way race but everything reported since spring practice from the Michigan Beat-writers points to a Tuttle v Orji battle.

  • @dberrimi9

If Tuttle is our guy, I give up. Seriously. I've seen him play. I know his history. We're at the top of our game and we're going to hand the QB position to a 7-year backup? Orji's floor is around Tuttle's ceiling in this offense. If Orji, throws 4 interceptions in the first two games, then I'd rather see Warren before Tuttle. Warren is a Michigan man and models himself after JJ McCarthy. He even looks like him out there on the field. Why, oh why, would we waste the season and not give Warren a shot, or even Jayden Davis, as the host said. Tuttle is a goner. If Orji isn't the guy, it's imperative to get the next one going this year.

Jaydan Davis is the highest ranked Quarterback of the bunch. Warren Davis has looked the best on the field during spring scrimmage. Tuttle has the most experience and has looked the best in games. Orgi makes Michigan one dimensional. With Orgi at quarterback we wouldn’t have beaten Ohio St. the last three years. If Michigan will be happy at 8-4 start Orgi. Because with him they will lose to Texas, Oregon, and Ohio St. definitely and probably USC or Washington.

For the most part, Michigan has had a pro-style QB ever since Harbaugh came to Michigan. If Orji were to start, it would mean they would have to overhaul the offense because he is not a pro-style QB.

10:10 I agree that Orjii has the highest ceiling and floor of any QB on the roster right now. However, his arm talent is a major question mark in terms of accuracy. He struggled quite a bit during the spring game before he settled down and did better. He can definitely sling the ball, but we'll see if his accuracy can improve. There's no question he's a fantastic runner. Orjii is going to be the starter against Fresno St. unless he gets injured.

For me, if Orji isn't the starter, you need to stick with that and see if he's willing to move to WR and actually help the team. He's way too talented not to play and start on the field. If we're asking him to be in the same passing offense as JJ, he can flourish. Low risk passes with high completion % will help. He can also throw the ball deep. Would be nice to see. If he throws 60% and keeps his picks low, this team is winning the big 10 for the 4th year in a row. Not sure when the last time we did that was.

People keep talking about his passing rating in high school how do we know that his receivers in high school could have been dropping the ball alot and believe me it effect your passing rating. You cant go by what he did in high school. People get better when they go to college also if Michigan didnt think he couldnt play the position they would not have brought him in as a Qb. Also look at Bills Qb Josh Allen you know he had a passing rating in college 55 percent and guess what he was draft by the Nfl.
