EV Owners RATTLED as EVs catch FIRE in HUGE NUMBERS

Ойын-сауық

#evs #electricvehicles #cars #evnews #carnews
It's not news that electric vehicles can catch fire just like regular internal combustion cars, but recent data shows that these incidents are happening way more often than we thought. It's like an exponential wildfire spreading across the EV community. EVs are bursting into flames at charging stations, after collisions, and even while stationary in parking lots. To add insult to injury, EV manufacturers have no idea how to solve this problem. And customers simply have no other option than to keep driving their cars while hoping they don't turn into a fireball. So what is the reason behind all these EV fires?

Bearing in mind that ICE vehicles generally outnumber EV's on the road by around 10:1, it would be interesting to see how man vehicle fires per 100 000 of each occur.

Or actual stats.... like these... "Estimates by the Phosphorous, Inorganic & Nitrogen Flame Retardants Association reported 55 fires per billion miles travelled in ICE vehicles and five fires per billion for EVs." So, that is FIFTY FIVE ICE car fires for every Billion miles, vs FIVE for EV's. Meaning ICE car fires are 11x more common per Billion miles traveled...

There is a marked difference between a good and bad EVs, when it comes to fire potential. Also, thecdifference between EV vs ICE fire, is ICE fires can be putout, if the gas tank is not involved. Same is the case for EVs, if the battery pack is not involved. Fire from thermal runway is difficult to put out neverthless. Actually well made EVs, have additional protection like automatic disconnect of HV battery pack in the event of air bag deployment. Also there are protective measures like cell level fuses, to prevent a short circuit causing a thermal runaway. Just some 💭

Sort of like when there aren't many of something, a really bad thing can appear "rare". But when you put a few million of them out in the wild, possibly with lower build standards or more iffy materials, suddenly the rate jacks up. Not to mention that when an EV lights up it's all together different than when an ICE unit torches. An ICE car can be put out with a fire extinguisher. The EV fire is much hotter and much more likely to spread as the hot gases cause the fires to shoot fires for over six feet away. And once the EV fire starts, you can't reliably put it out.

there is a 'disconnect' between mechanical engineering and electrical engineering. the automotive industry has evolved for a hundred years as beholden to the gasoline industry, hence electrically powered vehicles suffer the design mindset of petrol-headedness. almost all electric vehicles are produced to a very low standard of electrical engineering quality. any safety-conscious electrical engineer would be loath to drive one. if vehicles had always been electric and had recently changed to liquid fuel it would now be the liquid fuel vehicles catching fire. japanese and korean electric vehicles are safer than chinese and american vehicles because japanese and korean manufacturers employ actual electrical engineers to design them, as opposed to petrol heads playing with wires.

That is literally obviously false, as is clearly shown by all the problems and recalls by Hyundai and Kia EV's, and the embarrassing range of Toyota EV's. Where are all these engineers when Honda can't even design an EV, and has to rely on the GM Ultium platform to produce them...?
