EV Converted Custom 4x4 Garden Tractor

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

If you're new to the channel, this is a Cliff's Notes video of the build of my electric Custom 4x4 Articulated Cub Cadet. If you want to go deeper into the build, feel free to check out any of the 53 videos I've made of the build. And, while you're at it, take a look at the Jeep I finished last year and the other stuff I've been up to.
Thanks for watching,
Bill

Great work! You solved a problem I been pondering about how to electrify a conventional mowing deck. Currently my Kobalt electric push mower just isn’t quite enough.

Glad you like it. Getting everything to fit and making all the brackets/mounts is a challenge. The actual EV conversion really isn't very hard. If you can read a wiring schematic, there are only about 12 wires that need figured out.

Awesome work! I'm (hopefully) at the tail end of an articulated gas powered build garden tractor. It's great to see how you solved many of the same issues I've come across, albeit in a different way.

Looking good man! Try playing around with the video title and see if anything gains traction… “EV converted Cub Tractor” , “DIY Electric Ride on mower tractor”

@@ChuckThree Yeah, I don't understand why some videos get so many views. I put an electric motor on a garden tiller and put it behind my other tractor about 3 years ago. I got a couple hundred views. Someone else did the same with a gas tiller...didn't even bother to take the handle bars off...over a million views!

Exactly. The YT algorithm is so unpredictable but at the same time incredibly good suggesting random videos tangentially related to your searches. The scary thing is I think the algorithm suggested your video because of the visual elements of your thumbnail a few videos ago. Like it knew I was more likely to click on thumbnails with giant orange power cables and an exposed electrical motor. It’s actually been in the back of my mind bothering me lol. Because your videos should have shown up in the searches prompts based on what I was looking for, not in the “suggested videos” feed. Long story short of how I have access to a “free” 1960’s Caterpillar dozer. However the steering clutches are bad and the motor locked up. Parts are either unobtainium or insanely expensive. So naturally I thought about an EV swap. Hard to justify a +15,000lb dozer just laying around, so what if it doubles as a battery backup for the house or (kinda where your ePTO idea comes into play). So I end up on the *Edison Motors* channel after searching things like “heavy machinery ev swap” , “electric tractor conversion” , etc. And then below one of their videos I find your video from a few back 🤷

I like the front end of those. If I do another tractor, I'd like to get that body style.

How did you setup the steering I have an 80s turf master with 8hp Briggs trans and gearbox is chain driven and I'd have to do front axle chain driven or get a whole quad 4x4 drivetrain

I have several videos going over the iterations of steering. I used a EPS from a Nissan Versa taht drives a small sprocket chined to a large sprocket. The large sprocket has an arm welded to it that push/pulls a linkage.
