EV Carnage review of the Mercedes Vito E (it’s rubbish)

It’s like they just couldn’t be bothered so decided to wind everyone up instead, this gives the Maxxus a run for it’s money as the worst electric van on the road. #electriccar #electricvehicle #evcars #evvans #electricvans #futuremyarse

Battery powered vehicles are not good at the moment for professional drivers, thats very true, it doesnt mean they are not good for others, for me, owning an EV for 2 and a half years, the total cost of electric over those 2 years is about £1000, that has got me 35000 miles, What would it have cost me in my last car which was an average 40mpg? £5671 So in just 2 years I have saved over £4500 in just fuel costs, not including all the maintainance and serivice cost a petrol car comes with that an EV doesnt.

Mercedes are soooo on the EV bandwagon, they’ve released a PureEV option for nearly every model! Strangely though, they are keeping very tight-lipped on their losses from each EV sold, even though their dealers have decided to take an inactive approach to selling EV’s. MB are rubbish now, the quality is worse than its Chinese counterparts in many ways… they’re just taking “their” existing customers and those that still aspire to the name, for their money.

Fuel duty is currently levied at a flat rate of 52.95p per litre for both petrol and diesel, while VAT at 20% is then charged on both the product price and the duty. So diesel (minus tax/vat) is £0.63 per litre. This is then shared amongst all levels of the supply chain.

I used it for 10minutes - even though it was delivered from Chesterfield to the Manchester area specifically for me, as it was the only automatic in the firms fleet. I asked about the charging and at the time a fast charge would've taken 40+minutes - I then asked were the cahrgers were and the guy said ... 'There's loads on the M1". Things haven't really changed much have they - only fires and more inflation on the suggested full charge mileage!

If you live in a 15 minute city and don't drive very far and charge at home they are a great idea however most people commute some over an hour which brings in range anxiety and IF you want to go on holiday like we did a 10 day road trip in our Ford tourneo around Scotland forget it in an EV especially in cold weather

They were going to loan me one for five days beginning of December whilst my 119 diesel was on its way. Salesman said in this weather about 110 if your lucky. I took the sprinter H2L1 which was to big but it was diesel. I do about 200-220 miles a day sometimes more so I would have to charge three times a day in remote areas no chance. Imagine racking it out and having a heater on and radio and lights 80miles? I’ll stick with my diesel it’s impossible to go electric with the job and areas I cover unless it will do 400 fully loaded without charging.

Why would anybody buy a delivery van you had to struggle opening and closing several doors and you can't stand up in? Delivery vans are STEP VANS with long running diesel engines you start once a day. To make the next delivery you stand up out of your seat inside, go back to the next item and check its number, grab the item and go down the steps thru the always open sliding door onto the curb away from traffic, deliver then re-enter the van away from traffic and sit in the driver seat directly. No doors to open and close. No opening doors into the traffic. No crawling in and out 500 times a day. No opening cargo doors and crawling in to get packages. Safer, simpler, much less strain....STEP VANS RULE!

His video sounds pretty believable to me. The whole point of a van is that it needs to carry a lot of stuff and usually heavy things, we all know that the heater, weight, cold, towing etc etc kills range, so I don't see why you are so ready to dismiss his reporting, before criticising him, maybe hire that van for yourself and do the same test 🤷🏻‍♂️.

Not a van? Just an EV car? That's not what's being discussed here. I bought a new i3S for my wife. Great, fun little thing for local journeys but we keep some cars handy for demanding trips beyond the shops when we actually need a car.

We have an electric Peugeot Partner at work and in the summer and unladen it has around 150 miles of range. That's in the summer, it is worse even than that in the cold. Also, we don't have fast chargers on site because it would cost millions to upgrade our electricity infrastructure to cope with the load so consequently it takes a full working day to refuel it. Finally, unladen, it weighs 2.7 tons so the useless thing cannot even take the load a diesel version can.

Hey, that's my 2015 Vito 116 design that you're slagging off there. Except there was no reversing camera or Sat nav. I had to put my own camera in and a nice Alpine nav and sound system. It's got 250K km on it now, still going strong, bugger all electronics to go wrong, which , ask any high km 3 Prong power, is a plus, cos when they go wrong, they really go wrong. The interior design is fine. The steering wheel is fine. I like the dash. It works and it's pretty reliable. It would suck to have the Tesla screen. There current model Vito screen unit is pretty naff though. Mercedes love to brag about their refinement and quality, but Hyundai puts them to shame. I'm looking at upgrading my van in a couple of years, and I'm not looking forward to the conversation with the salesman where I tell him what I think of it.
