@@jonasmarkuslarsson I don't have the impression that he tries to be unique at all. He just is. That you find his interpretation weird doesn't make it less special. This version give the words of the song a totally different meaning and this is what I call uniqueness and art. But of course you are free to not like it. That's the sweet thing about music, right?

I'm not sure if it's just coincidence or what, but I find it interesting how the non U.S based Voice shows always have these individuals who are not only very talented but also pretty damn unique. The U.S based Voice has a lot of very talented singers, but they are usually by the numbers performances without any weirdness or artistic interpretation (For the most part)

They have a bigger history and cultrural diversity the the USA and the have a better acceptance and appreciation to it. As an American by birth there are so many unblended group that share a wide range/spectrum. Its been compartmentalized.

This is such a unique and rare talent that I can only think of people like White Buffalo or Colter Wall that come close. Definitely a unique and niche artist but an absolutely awesome one. Some artists need a particular song to show off their talent, Will Barber can pretty much take any song and adapt it to his style as well as being a talented musician to boot.

Barber, qui veut dire barbier. A part ça, Mika le connaissait déjà, puisqu'il était ds le jury en 2017 qd Barber était passé, donc il l'a sans doute reconnu et s'est rappelé qu'il était barbu.

I bought this performance and I've only done that maybe 5 times in all these years and I'll never understand why they didn't all turn. It's a brilliant performance.

(😲 OMG!) I'm completely and utterly, head over heels, "IN AWE," with this talented Man's voice and rendering of a great classic ! His deep, gritty And yet dominant voice, seems too demand our attention! His tone just slowly rips threw 😳 your soul and leaves just enough too keep us crawling back for a lil more! (Grins) Mm! mon candidat préféré de cette saison , on a toujours une liste de candidats que on tiens absolument a revoir lors d'une saison All-Stars, il en faisais parti, j ai eu des frissons tout le long, 'ai jamais entendu une voix comme ca auparavant, je me souviens de ta prestation sur la chanson de Pink Floyd, tu etais aussi un de mes préféré de cette saison , a chaque saison j'adore avoir mon top 3 de mes préféré et tu est mon numéro 1 cette saison

Sweet dreams est une chanson évoquant la désillusion, l'échec, le désespoir, à une époque charnière où Eurythmics faillit bien disparaître... ou disons ne jamais naître auprès du public de masse, le groupe galérant depuis des années dans des petites piges dans des bars, et c'est le titre qui les révélera au grand public. A ce moment là, Annie Lennox et Dave Stewart se séparent dans la vie privée, mais décident de continuer le duo. Ils rêvent de pouvoir sortir de cette galère des petits piano bars, de prendre enfin la lumière, mais vont d'échec en échec, plongent dans la déprime, sont à deux doigt de tout arrêter, quand Annie Lennox fait ressortir ces états d'âmes sur un bout de papier et par miracle Dave Stewart trouve rapidement les accords qui vont bien. En fait le texte est suffisamment flou, ambigu pour laisser une grande marge d'interprétation, certains y voyant même du sado masochisme (mais c'est sans doute excessif car c'est interpréter certains mots au premier degré). De la simple désillusion artistique, amoureuse que chante Eurythmics, Marylin Manson en a fait une version noire à la sauce "gothique", version très célèbre qu'Annie Lennox n'a pas rejetée, admettant que son texte était en fait ambigu et autorisait une vision plus extrême. En parcourant KZread, j'ai vu que la version d'Emily Browning semble prendre au premier degré les mots "some of them want to abuse you" car le clip semble évoquer des tentatives de violences d'un père sur sa fille qui n'a d'autre choix que de s'enfuir par la fenêtre... on va dire que c'est dans la lignée extrême du sado masochisme, ça dépasse clairement le texte vu que "some of them" renvoie à "Sweet dreams" et non à une personne. Eurythmics parlent d'interactions entre l'homme et ses rêves, certains qu'on voudrait voir réalisés mais qui ne se réalisent pas, certains rêves qui vous trompent ou vous pervertissent... Eurythmics évoquent une désillusion psychologique, mais pas des meurtrissures physiques causées par un individu. A partir de là on peut placer l'interprétation de Will Barber à mi-chemin entre l'original et la version "dark gothique" de Marylin Manson Je n'avais pas été convaincu à la première écoute, mais en analysant un peu le texte, en écoutant la version de Marylin Manson "extrême" mais finalement encore correcte vis à vis du texte, on peut se dire que Will Barber délivre ici une très grande version de ce standard. On va dire que WIll Barber c'est du "dark" sans l'aspect gothique, donc il peut mettre d'accord pas mal de monde, notamment ceux qui n'aiment pas trop les facéties gothiques de Marylin Manson. On dira même que c'est une version "mystique". La toute fin du morceau semble évoquer une sorte de prêtre indien qui essaierait de conjurer le mauvais sort dans une sorte de rite chamanique. Will transporte donc "Sweet dreams" en Amérique, comme il l'avait fait auparavant avec sa célèbre cover des Pink Floyd. NB : Pour répondre à certaines questions, Will Barber joue sur une lapsteel qui est basiquement une guitare dont les formes ont été optimisées pour être jouées à plat. Ben Harper s'en sert beaucoup. Zazie identifie instantanément cette lapsteel et devine que c'est Will Barber. Mika, si mauvais dans la reconnaissance des candidats cette fois-ci comprend tout de suite dès qu'il entend la voix.
