EBU made a big mistake by disqualifying the Netherlands. Big. HUGE. Joost didn't do anything wrong, it is quite the opposite; The camera woman was harassing Joost. Joost did NOT touch her. The camera woman kept filming him, even while this is in breech of EBU's contract with the artist not to film backstage. Joost asked her twice to stop filming and she kept filming him, so he made a gesture to the camera not even to the camera woman! EBU disqualifying Joost is like victim blaming and so not right. I hope justice will be served and there will be pressed charges against the EBU and their camera woman. Joost, you are in our hearts and everyone knows you were the public's choice. No one can take that away from you, Joost! Eurovision should apologize to Joost and also publicly for what they have so unrightfully done to Joost. Disqualifying him is not right, just not right...

Norway: “There is no doubt that the reputation of the Eurovision Song Contest has been significantly damaged this year, and it is now crucial that the EBU quickly takes action. The EBU needs to stop blaming the delegations and artists for the scandals that surrounded Eurovision 2024, and acknowledge the core problem. They need to be more humble and take responsibility for the damage done. They should return to the office and start communicating with both the broadcasters, the general public and the fans. I believe everyone wants a constructive dialogue, and to find ways to bring the Eurovision Song Contest back on track. We owe it to the millions of people who believe in unity, diversity, peace, love and the celebration of life and music. We owe it to everyone!”

This is what you get if you care more about the money than about the art. United by Music -> Divide by EBU Joost at least tried to unite people. But in my opinion the EBU screwed all participants in one way or the other. By protecting its fake ‘non political’ character, they meant protecting the money, not the fun. Replacing real sounds/experiences from the audience by fake onces. Not addressing all the complaints of the delegations seriously. Allowing intimidations in the bubble, allowing political lobbies without any consequence, terrible communication. Consequence: extremely odd voting results from public and jury. All participating countries seem disillusioned and confused. The only thing that still unites them is the feeling of being robbed. Divided by EBU. We already know by now that nothing will change. The audience is only allowed to applaud, the (stressed out) artist only to sing, the broadcasters only to pay, just like everyone who is televoting. United by Music, but without the experience of it. No thanks. RIP Eurovision Song Contest

@Larry_Stylinson
25 күн бұрын
@@britvicaIt was fairly good and better than some of the other entries but still somehow a bit "bland". I wasn't too big of a fan of the thrusting either. I'm saying since years that the UK should just get One Direction (with or without Zayn Malik) to compete for them. They can write their own song (they're good songwriters but also have contacts to big people in the industry like Oasis) and know good composers, so the UK could compete for once with a really great song (I would make it more rock than pop - similar to the sound of their last two albums, Harry Styles' "Kiwi" and Louis Tomlinson's recent songs from his album "Faith In The Future"). They have a strong fan base as a group and even as individual artists, so that would be a couple million votes you'd already instantly have in your pocket. They wouldn't even need dancers (who would just unnecessarily distract from the song either way) or any fancy staging. I'm sure Harry Styles would have an amazing outfit ready for the show in a couple of weeks (and he surely knows what would appeal to the queer audience) and could get the other guys to wear something that wouldn't clash with it. Just ask (or beg!) them to do it and offer to give any money for their performance(s) to charities of their choice and they quite likely would say yes! It would be THE comeback of the century. I'd genuinely be surprised if the UK wouldn't be at least in the top 5 if not win the contest. The puns the moderators and commentators could make would even write themselves. What more could you ask for?! Stop sending "bland" performances of songs that don't draw people in with too much distractions on stage. Focus on the song and the singing. You guys don't need a fancy stage or anything expensive. Send a good singer with a really good song and you'll get the votes. I still don't understand why the UK doesn't hold a casting for the ESC. It clearly doesn't work for the UK how it is right now. It definitely would be worth to host one and see if that makes a difference at the ESC. In my opinion it probably would.

Don't know but the juries this year feel as rigged as in 2023 as if a winner was decided in a smoke filled room. Last year they wanted Sweden to win to prevent Finland from winning. This year they wanted to prevent Croatia, Israel or Ukraine from winning. Semi results are known before the jury shows. They knew that they can't prop someone up who will flop the televote so Switzerland was the most convenient. France is big 5 so it's televote couldn't be forecast.

Nah, we have quite a bit of information now. If we combine the EBU, Swedish police, and Dutch delegation statements, we know the following: 1. There was a prior incident for which the Netherlands was warned. 2. The incident was severe enough police was called to the scene. 3. The Dutch delegation claims there was simply a "gesture" towards an employee of the EBU. The EBU released a (late) statement saying this is not true and a misrepresentation of the facts. 4. The national broadcasters in the organising committee which actually know what happened voted unanimously to disqualify the Netherlands. Only the delegations which do not know what happened protested. 5. Swedish police forwarded the case to the prosecutor's office, and later released an additional statement saying they deem it likely charges will follow since the evidence is very clear. There is some misinformation about that trying to link this case to Israel, but none of the three parties agree with Israel having anything to do with it. Sadly this myth is also being pushed by some of the popular performers.

The EBU allowed Israel to participate, supposedly because the ESC is not about politics. However, they banned Russia from the contest following the invasion of Ukraine for purely political reasons. (And despite its name, the ESC's main sponsor Moroccan Oil is an Israeli company.) They also disqualified the Dutch contestant, Joost Klein, (who was a frontrunner) on the day of the grand finale, supposedly because he "threatened" a camerawoman. However, reports have since emerged that said camerawoman had filmed him backstage despite an agreement that he would not be filmed backstage and despite his repeated requests that she stop filming. He then appearently made a "threatening movement" towards the camera and the camerawoman thought he was threatening her (even though she was the one harassing him by filming). Nevertheless, the EBU decided to disqualify him over the incident and many people think that that was unjustified and disproportionate.

I dont think Eurovision would disqualify Joost for nothing. Why he did not like this woman to film him? Media has freedom to do so. Now, imagine if this would be a singer from Azerbaijan, Israel, Georgia or any other East European country, nobody would question the action of EBU.
@JBinero

Yeah, and to be honest the fact the EBU disputes the Dutch testimony, the fact that all broadcasters in the organising committee (which know what happened) unanimously agree with the EBU decision, and the fact the Swedish police says there is sufficient evidence and they expect the prosecutor to press charges, tells me enough. It is a bit silly that most people think this disqualification was unfair, but as their only source list the statement released by the Dutch delegation. Of course the Dutch delegation is going to say it is unfair and downplay the facts. The EBU was very clumsy in its communication this year though. Not sure what they could've done better, as I do not think they should've just thrown out the entire case into the court of the public opinion either, but their complete silence doesn't seem to have been ideal either.

@@JBinero I second your thought and agree with you on everything. Most likely, the only reason why the EBU did not openly go against Joost by openly showing all the evidence is because possibly the EBU wanted to protect him after his "silly" "emotional" action against that woman. After all, showing to all how you insult a woman can ruin your reputation, end his career and he would be mem in IG and TikTok. However, the Dutch delegation turned this good gesture of the EBU against the EBU in order to protect the reputation of their own delegation. Thus, I dont think that the EBU did anything wrong.

Adding fake support for the act was disgraceful and embarrassing

The results of the grand final result
This year the juries decided to fail all the singers who performed with male and female dancers. It was enough to say before that they are not needed, and many participating nations such as Italy, Israel, Luxembourg, Slovenia, Austria, Ireland, Georgia, Greece, Cyprus, Spain, Portugal would not have done so much training for the dance rehearsals and I would not have spent so much money unnecessarily for choreography and scenography!
He had to be seen
