Jury was included to prevent neighbor-voting. Jury votes for neighbors more than people..

I think Tamara should be relieved she didn't have that final two tense moment, to win the jury vote and to think you could win it all, then to get 58 televote points would be humiliating. I mean, we saw John Lundvik's face, I wouldn't wish that on anyone!

Even though I don't like this new way of presenting the televote results (they should go back to the old one) I think Tamara was a good sport about the televote points she received, but I have to admit that you're right, maybe she could have had a different reaction after so much time wasted in creating suspense. We can make the math: there weren't enough points for Sweden to win, why waste so much time when we already knew The Netherlands had won, ugh.

To be honest I'm not a huge fan of the jury system in general, there's such a huge and clear national bias that it ruins the fun for me (though I don't know how to fix that...luckily it's not my job!!)

Remove the juries!

I’d suggest that if a jury breaks the rules, their votes are simply disregarded, and only the televote counts. That means the country in question only gets to give out a total of 58 points instead of 116.

irondasgr - last place is a bit harsh, but reducing the total votes received by 25% (or 50% if the same country’s jury screws up a second time within 5 years) could work.

Still, it isn't factual. They don't know how the jury would've voted this year. I think it's a load of bollocks. I feel like this shows us how weird the jury vote is, in the first place.

The jury underrated literally almost every entry that the public liked. And you can also see that many juries favoured some entries that the public did not rate/like _THAT_ much. Way to much differences between the jury and public votes and it's quite obvious that most just give their highest points to their neighbors (tele and jury votes). Idk if we could claim that the public "overrated" specific entries - bc I think it's about what most ppl, the majority, likes. Many ppl voted for the Netherlands, but majority wanted Norway as the winner. The Jury is represented by some 200 ppl. Meanwhile millions of ppl of Europe (and beyond Europes borders) watched ESC. The ppl that voted via SMS/off. App/Telephone are certainly WAAAAAAY more than just some 200 ppl.

But what does it mean, for the jury vote to be 'weird'? Simply that it's different from the public vote? If it weren't, it wouldn't make sense to have a jury in the first place, no? Best thing EBU can do is either bin the jury vote entirely. But that wouldn't make much sense, they are broadcasters and professionals. It would be like food competitions on tv being judged exclusively by the public and not at all by professional bakers or chefs. Or they can split the trophy, give one to the public favourite and one to the jury winner. Host country then should be the country of the televote winner.

@@samstruyven2299 It's rather simple, there's a discrepancy and the jury vote, as seen, very often, doesn't reflect the vote of the general public. I find your argument that it should be different so its existence is justified quite odd. They're not really music connoisseurs either, for my country Germany, the five jury members are usually some 2nd rate pop-singers or some rappers. So why is their vote equally weighted when there's 83 mio Germans.

Lol San Marino what a country! Turkish singer, simple and catchy song but the best: Lost 4 points but jumped 1 place higher! I wish my exams would be like that.. losing points but getting a better grade

The juries are honestly a shambles. They need to revise the whole system tbh. Maybe have more juries per country, to make the results more reliable. Also they need to sort out some of the countries and their obvious block voting

An example of where juries are working pretty much correctly is Ireland. Ireland has a natural neighbor in the UK but to look at Irish jury votes not only is it clear the votes are impartial but there isn't a prevailing sense of loyalty to any nation the points could go anywhere and that is how it should run. So for me this is an example of how the juries can work and are working in places in which it is administered correctly. I think jurors should sit in indivudal booths during the process imo so they cant even see the other jurors to make it much more individual so all jurors do this correctly

The unprofessionalism of EBU doesn't end here.... when awarding the prize for best composition to Mahmood the presenter said our singer didn't seem Italian because he was too humble and he went on to say that Italians aren't normally that way. Excuse me? You dish out steretypes about a whole country while awarding their rappresentative a prize? How unprofessional if not downright rude is that?

I think Slovenia had a boring and monotonic song without sny climax or bridge in it, even though it was calming song. The composing was not that good and it didn't deserve to be on the left side of the scoreboard. On the other hand, I feel sorry for France too. Bilal was very good, his song wa very good and also their performance on stage.

Biggest scandal of the year

The idea that using other countries' similar historic voting record is an indirect acknowledgement that political voting exists (which obviously it does but this shouldn't be aided by the EBU). The purpose of juries is theoretically to reduce any political bias (and also focus on the quality of the song but that's kind of irrelevant) so it seems illogical that the points they award should be matched to specific other countries. Surely it would make much more sense to use the Belarusian televote as 100% of their points or to cut out their jury vote entirely rather than using a set which is both inaccurate (I'm pretty sure they said that they loved Australia for example) and against the entire point of the juries.

they just want Norway to end up 6th so "juries vote" makes this happen. Norway has 15th on the running order on both semifinal 2 and grand final and ends up 6th (after the show ended, behind our backs). it's 15/15/6 so it's 666 while the netherlands last won in 1975 (44 years ago) next year is 2020 in which they will host. Both 1975 and 2020 equals each other. (1+9+7+5 is 22, 2+2=4). Take it what you will

William, what about Lithuania? The biggest robbery had happened to them :/ Italian televotes were misunderstood by EBU and as a results Lithuania was out and Denmark passed even though it would have been placed 11th if the results were calculated properly

Ya I thought it was strange that the Belarusian jury was an average of its neighbours and when no one voted for Israel at all and then Belarus gave him 12 points. I was really confused but this makes sense now.

To everyone saying that Sweden took our moment of glory and it was humiliating - it wasn't like that. Even 2 place with juries and 8 with combined points was too much for us because it's the first time such thing ever happened to us at Eurovision, we never even had our hopes this high 😅. Not saying that we shouldn't have had our moment of winning the jury vote, that would've been awesome, but when the battle was to happen between Macedonia and The Netherlands, it would've been kinda obvious that The Netherlands will win. 7th place is our best placement at Eurovision. Our country' song is not my favorite, but I am happy for these moments. 🤗

@@TheLalapopo123 I wish the same for my country (Albania) to be honest with you. This contest has lost trustworthiness, honesty and authenticity in my opinion. There are even studies that prove that there is bias in televotings. I wonder why they never analyze jury votes? And that entries in their native languages score lower results than in English. So it's not a wonder that so many sing in English. But the fact that EBU had to admit that they messed it up just bc somone called them out on twitter... is quite sad. Imagine the time when there was no social media to call out errors.

My country (Slovenia) lost 2 PLACES coz' of this BS! We went from the left side of the scoreboard(13th place) to the right side(15th place). We had matched our best placing in ESC in this decade (from 2011) and now we fell for 2 places. Come on! They should just leave out Belarusian jury this year, and not award their own points! :(

No one died, didn't change the winner..So not a disaster, but unfortunate mistake.

Sorry from Belarus, we didn't want to ruin the celebration for u, Europe. "thanks" to our juries, wish they will be replaced next year with more young and creative people, not with singers from the 80-90s in USSR.

Probably said this 100 times now because JUSTICE FOR NORWAY but juries are unreliable. They are just as political, if not more so, than the public, and they cannot follow simple instructions. It is baffling that half of a country's votes are coming from people who sometimes cannot understand the basic instructions of no discussing how you voted and to to rank from 1st to last. Have always said this but they should make it the jury vote as it is and then give the public vote x3 to make the jury vote 25% until the EBU gets their act together with juries.

@@papateras4212 Because all of my friends were touched by this song. I have to disagree with political voting for North Macedonia, because they did get points not just from Balcan countries.

I think it’s funny how everyone is so pissed that we stole Norway’s fifth place except the Norwegians, they just have their normal attitude towards us lol. In the end of the day they still won the televote which is more important imo. I agree that there is bias towards Sweden from the jury’s and I hope people realize that not all Swedes are arrogant, I would have been super happy with the 9th place from the televote this year

I havn't noticed that. I myself am still happy that Norway won the televotes, because I found them (and others) to be sooo underrated by the jury and most of the jury's top 5 totally overrated - compared with all the other entries I mean. I mean, just the distance between first and second place - 30 points. that is a lot. and it shows, what esc viewers rather expect from the competition. (radiofriendly - not that it is a totally bad thing, but it is not always fit for a big stage AND radiofriendly is what we get throughout the year anyway. it doesn't matter, if they come 2nd, 3rd, 5th. but something more outstanding should win. the older I get, the more I appreciate all these 'different' kind of music entries. no matter, which genre and style. )

I was curious to see how the results would have turned out had the Belarusian jury vote been dismissed entirely. @@Pawhlen This was not done to prove something against your country. Please don't feel attacked. Many people saw the aggregated vote as a mistake and think it should have not influenced the result at all.

If the Belarussian jury kept their mouths SHUT then they wouldn’t have been dismissed, and this fracas wouldn’t have taken place. SHAME ON THE JURY! Love you William!

I think they already knew about this huge mistake at the end or right after the show, but they kept it quiet until someone on twitter posted about this mistake. So because of that post, the EBU were "forced" to come out with the true story. After all of the last recent years, the jury- and televoting result sequences are posted in separate clips on the official Eurovision KZread channel, right after the final show. They did that straight away after the shows of 2016, 2017 and 2018! But they didn't post any voting results of this year's final. Not on the same day or the day after this show... and they still didn't! You can only watch it, when you start the grand final, just like Madonna's "out-of-tune". They actually did post both semi-final result announcements right after those shows, though. Because there was no mistake in those results.

That‘s a very weird situation to handle.

Russia got 26th place from Georgian jury. 26th... And it affected the Belarusian results as well! WTF?

Unfortunately it is unfair if you discard the jury's vote in such event. A jury can never vote for its own country, meaning you have to give points to others (and thereby making it less likely for your own country to win). If the jury vote doesn't count anymore, you are decreasing the competition with other countries and make it more likely for your own country to win (no points for your competitors). Guess basically every jury will break the rules then, just to help your own country. So yeah, aggregate results are unfair but necessary.

I don't think that they could've left Belarus out of the jury vote bc if casual viewers saw that their country wasn't there then the EBU would probably come under even more fire than now. Most viewers of the show probably won't even know that there was a mistake, so I don't think it matters that they fixed the vote, bc most people won't know that countries like NM had points stolen from them. I hope this situation makes the EBU consider just axing the jury vote, since it almost never lines up with the public vote, and how can the show be free of politics if the juries always give the most points to their neighbours?

This wouldn't be a wise decision as other countries would lose a chance of getting jury points from Belarus while Belarus wouldn't lose a chance.

The least they should do is to invite Tamara to perform on next year's Eurovision. Give her some screen time to compensate for this error.

We don't know what is happening behind the scenes. This is part of the game, we should not expect to much of this TV-Show. Politics, strategies and corruption surely find a way. It's like everywhere 😉

Thanks EBU for correctig the votes, because I was sooooo amazed when seeing and hearing the votes live saterday night of Belarus... Revieuw those live votes and try to understand how one country can give notes ONLY to the countries at de right side but Australia. It was ridiculous, not understandable and it did sustain the idea that even jury votes are political. I'm glad they cleaned this !

they just want Norway to end up 6th so "juries vote" makes this happen. Norway has 15th on the running order on both semifinal 2 and grand final and ends up 6th (after the show ended, behind our backs). it's 15/15/6 so it's 666 while the netherlands last won in 1975 (44 years ago) next year is 2020 in which they will host. Both 1975 and 2020 equals each other. (1+9+7+5 is 22, 2+2=4). Take it what you will

The biggest debacle you haven't even mentioned: In the semifinal Belarus took the spot from Poland to qualify to the final. So ZENA was not even allowed to perform. Tulia were supposed to qualify. How will EBU compensate this?

I think, he might be right

I don't think it's a good idea to change the result afterwards. Don't get me wrong, it's good that the EBU admits its mistake, but it's just too late for a correction. Most viewers (excluded us) either don't notice it at all or take note of it without being interested in it at all. You could say it's fairer, but there should be no advantage for those involved. Some countries are given points to take away, others are given points they can't really be happy about. And it doesn't change anything about the Netherlands' overall victory. I also wonder what the EBU would have done if such a mistake had happened in a semi-final and had switched places 10 and 11? You certainly wouldn't have repeated the final, that wouldn't have been an option. In other competitions, like football, the result is not corrected either, for example if there was an irregular goal and yes, that also happened in very important matches.

I dont care bout televote or jury winner, you need to be the overall WINNER🏆 That's all in the game. Anyway, William and team thanks a lot for great video's. See ya next year!🥰

You should talk about robberies in the voting! (Czechia third last in televote, Australia 9th, San Marino, Spain)

I agree with everything on the video but there are other things bothering me here: - An aggregated score doesn't really make sense for a jury vote. You could see why that would work for the televote, but historical voting patterns shouldn't have ANYTHING to do with how music experts vote. (Same reason why the eternal 12 point exchange between the juries Greece and Cyprus for example is outrageous). As William said the votes should be discounted all together. - I'm baffled that this means that Israel received 0 points from juries after Kobi delivered one of the best vocals of the night. I've been going through the detailed voting and some juries ranked him dead last or second to last, which doesn't make any sense to me. Are juries punishing host countries deliberately? If that the case, it would be really wrong and should be called out.

I ultimately think that 1- Juries should vote in the Grand Final, not in the so-called "Jury show". Artists might have had a bad "Jury show" day, and this affects points 2- Juries results should also be revealed as in the televote, ordering the points from the bottom to the top 3- If another mess-up occurs again, I think that aggregate results shouldn't be crossing EBU's minds. Let's just discount them! Great job, William!

I think it's totally unfair to all the delegations and artists involved. Poor Norway, thinking they'd made the top 5 and then Sweden pushed them out. This should have never happened and unfortunately, it wasn't the only voting mistake that was made this year. Jurors voting backwards is becoming an ever increasing problem and surely, the voting partners should pick up that most jurors in that country placed a song high and then one particular juror placed completely different countries in the top. It seems weird too me as again this has affected results! Sweden's 8 to Austria meant Austria didn't finish last in the semi but Ireland did and Czech Republic's voting in semi 1 snubbed Poland of a place in the final and instead Belarus qualified. This needs to be dealt with and problems like this cannot arise in 2020!

As a record holder of last places, we can't complain when we end top 10! We are proud of KeiiNo, and they did their very best. So if there are some issues, ok. Personally, I am just happy to see The Netherlands won. I was just 1 year old when they did and I am now old enough to be a grandmother of a 1 year old child (I am not, though, just to put things in perspective)'

I'd be happy not to have to be in that last tense final moment if I was Tamara. She did miss out on the glory, but also them displaying her momentary disappointment and everyone making memes of your reaction to losing.
