European windows are awesome

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I love how windows in Europe work. Both sides open, and they open all the way. Quite the opposite of windows in North America, many of which hardly open at all.
Of course, this style of window isn't cheap, and if you special order them from here, they cost even more. They call them "tilt and turn" windows in North America (I guess in Europe, they are just called windows)

@@scrapyardcomputing9323 Americans prefer to spend their money on all sorts of things, rather than high end fittings for their homes. But things like granite counter tops and expensive plumbing fixtures have become popular. The wealthy often prefer to buy mid level windows, rather than the highest quality because their larger houses require so many windows there is a cumulative escalation in the cost. As for your remark about guns, it looks like you don't know much about the U.S. I suggest that you learn about our constitution and why its writers included a guarantee that we can own weapons. Not all of us own a gun, some people have several. I'd prefer that everyone owned at least one and knew how to use it properly.

Here in North America, our windows are constructed of the highest quality extruded vinyl. The deluxe models open to full 25% of their surface area and even though they don't allow much fresh air flow in the summer, they have a tremendous cooling effect in the winter. If properly cared for the plastic latches and hardware can last months.

+Mateusz Felix I don't know about everyone else in America, but my windows suck. The top of it is fixed in place, and the bottom is movable, but you have to unlock it and try to kind of get underneath it to push it upwards. It always gets stuck because it's wood against wood, and for the second (there's two parts you have to open, not counting the separate screen section) section of the window it hurts my fingers because the latches on it are only big enough for about one finger on each side (there's something you have to pull on both bottom left and bottom right) and then you have to push upwards at the same time. I've seen windows like these in this video before in America, but only in super duper nice modern expensive apartments on tv and stuff.

you can get any window you want in America, many are custom made. you can even get this window if you want. these casement style windows are not as popular because they are expensive to repair and replace and also they dont provide much structural rigidity. depending on local soils a house can settle quite a bit and render them inoperable. i had to replace a wall of them in my house for that reason

@@deadvodka A single hung window is the bottom window that opens and for a double pane 2 foot by 3 foot window cost around 100 usd, a double hung window has the top and bottom that open cost a bit more at around 140usd. Sliding windows are about the same when they slide side to side. Casement windows which are what these windows are called. Cost a bit more around 200 dollars. These are the super low costing windows. They can increase in price based on type of material used such as vinyl, wood, steel, aluminum and composite. Panes also increase the cost from single to 4 pane. There are also other factors like type of attachment, the most basic is a nail flange which means removing the trim from the old window pulling the nails and cutting away any and all caulk then installing new window and replacing trim. Install prices can range from low 50 dollar per window to 100s per window depending on siding and window attachment. These windows might be standard where you are from or where this person is from they are not standard everywhere.

I remember the first time I encountered windows like these in Norway.. Around 1994 I think. Back then there were 2 levers, one on each side of the frame, and you had to turn one to swing the window out and both to tilt the window. When the window was swung open, you could turn the other lever and the whole thing would release and a 10 year old me suddenly had a really difficult task of trying to fit it back before anyone noticed...

+zatranslate It's a German mechanism, which has become popular in 1990s in Europe and 2000s elsewhere. In America most windows are either classic( where two halves sway open) or a British classic( bottom half moves vertically). So, they are not so common on that side of the ocean, no. BTW. The production of plastic windows moved out of the Germany and they themselves make mostly wood windows with 3 stage mechanisms. Plastic windows are considered poor mans choice and, you know, environment and stuff.

zatranslate Uh-huh. That's what marketing is. I just changed my 50 y.o wooden windows and they could've worked for 50 more. How long are you gonna live? Cheap plastic becomes yellow in 5 and warps in 10 years. And you lose all the perks they once had as new. Wood can be remade, fixed and painted anew. And premium plastic windows cost just as much as wooden.

  • @TheKrololo

Romashk we had wooden windows for 20 years and they just rotted. Also we had to insulate them every autumn. We replaced them to plastic and plastic works good. Besides, to find good wooden windows is harder than good plastic ones. And i assume it was probably cheaper.
