surprising to see the state of the heidelberg station given that this town is a big tourist destination with a large university. i expected an up to date building and services. it looks like something built in the 50's / 60's with only minor renovations through the years. i hope you made it up to the castle while you were there.

There are a number of German stations built along these lines. I think it was a result of hasty reconstruction work following world war II.
