Europe's MOST UNDERRATED HIKE? (KORULDI LAKES SVANETI GEORGIA 🇬🇪)

In Georgia’s developing tourist scene, Mestia is a delightful small town in the Upper Svaneti region, but it’s also the base for one of the most stunning day hikes we’ve ever taken to the Koruldi lakes! The stunning 360 views of the Caucuses as we walked up to the lakes were absolutely incredible, rivaling some of the best mountain views we’ve seen all around the world. The cows grazing along the way and the changing cloud formations also made us think of Switzerland but at a fraction of the cost! While there’s quite a bit of elevation gain, you can reduce some of that strain by hiring a driver to take you up to the cross, which offers unbelievable views of the surrounding mountain ranges and of the town of Mestia. Less than five kilometers of uphill descent later, you’ll see the stunning Koruldi lakes! Because of how unexpectedly beautiful this journey was the entire time, this was one of our favorite adventures thus far, and we’re so excited to share this with you! If you have any questions about the hike, leave a comment down below, and we’ll get back to you ASAP!

It is pretty steep just going straight up. If you get a car to the cross and go straight up without stopping, it might take 3-4 hours to ascend and much faster on the descend. We, however, were stopping for pictures constantly, so it definitely took us longer! Trekking poles would definitely help if you can afford the luggage space! Hope you have an amazing time! Thanks for watching! 🥰

Hi I’m planning to be there too. I was quite doubt about should i get up to the Koruldi lake or not, but after watching your video i decided to get there for sure. However, just would like to know how long would it take to the lake from the cross over. And is it possible to also have the car to pick you up at the same spot when you are back. Is half a day enough for the trip? I just wanna safe some times for being around more in Mestia. Thanks!

Hey, thanks for watching! To answer your questions, the hike would probably take most of the day, but it depends on how fast you go. From the cross, if we recall correctly, it is 4.7 km but mostly steep and uphill. Theoretically, if you go straight without stopping much along the way, it might take 1.5-2 hours, but we often take quite a bit longer because we are taking pictures and recording videos along the way. If you have a SIM card, there's reception most of the way (even on the trail), so you may be able to get the number of your driver and arrange pickup. If you'd like, some drivers may even drive you all the way up to the lakes themselves (eliminating the need for any walking). The key issue would probably be how many people you are traveling with and how much you are willing to spend. The Delica drivers charge 150 GEL per car for the one-way trip to the top (I imagine a similar fee for coming back down; this is a lot for Georgia, and even in Svaneti). It can be cheaper if you find people to go with you. Note that if you plan to go up to the lakes, you can skip the ski lift, as even going to the cross takes you up much higher than the ski lift! Hope this helps and let us know if you have any other questions! Enjoy your trip!

If you're lucky enough to be one of the few people to book a plane ticket with Vanilla Sky (it is difficult, as they don't announce their availability and booking can be uncertain), you can fly there from Tbilisi in an hour. Otherwise, it's an 8+ hour drive. We have another video on our channel all about how we got there! As far as accommodations are concerned, Mestia is fairly developed, so there are a good number of hostels, guesthouses, and proper hotels! Hope this helps!
