In the Caribbean, the territorial sea of the Kingdom of the Netherlands has a direct boundary with France (Sint-Maarten / Saint-Martin), Saint-Kitts and Nevis (Sint-Eustatius). Furthermore, the exclusive economic zone of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the Caribbean has boundaries with the United States (US Virgin Islands), the Dominican Republic, the United Kingdom (Anguilla and British Virgin Islands) and Venezuela. So technically speaking there's no border between the territories of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the US, only between their EEZs.

In Paris, you only have to walk two streets to change trains, from Paris Nord to Paris Est. In Moscow, it's worse. Trains from Europe, and also from Paris, arrive to Moskva Belorusskaya and trains to Beijing leave from Moskva Yaroslavskaya or Kazanskaya, which are side by side but 7 km away from Moskva Belorusskaya. So practically, every traveller would take the Moscow Metro between the two, which would be a fourth train :D

The Canada/Denmark border dispute is one of my favourite quirky conflicts. I was sad to hear that it’s probably going to be resolved soon because I’ve always had a low-key desire to go to Canada one day, hire a boat and claim the island for myself in the same way the two nations often do (sending a small expedition every 6-24 months to check on the island and replace the other nations flag on the flagpole at the centre of the island, claim a bottle of Canadian or Danish spirits left by the last group, and leave your own bottle behind for the next time the “enemy” come and take the island)

Here's a couple I have not seen: - The Netherlands and France share a land border, on the island of Saint Martin. - Also, the Netherlands has a maritime border with Venezuela and the Dominican republic (Aruba) and the US (between Saba and the US Virgin Islands), making Germany be only one country away from the US. - The Dutch province of Flevoland is man made and lies in the former Zuiderzee, now IJsselmeer. - Even though Russia is a huge country it has no access to a four season port that does not require passing through territorial waters of other states (Pass through Denmark and Sweden from Kaliningrad. Pass through Turkey and Greece and either also Egypt, or Spanish, Moroccan and even British waters from the black sea ports). Monaco is the only acknowlegded european microstate that is not landlocked (unless you also count Malta as a microstate, which is an archipelago). - Liechtenstein is the only european landlocked country locked between landlocked countries. - As you touched on the placement of Berlin as the capital of Germany may seem a bit odd as it is not central in Germany at all (after 1945/1990). This is even more pronounced with Vienna in Austria and Bratislava in Slovakia. In all of these cases the choice for the capital is based more on historical or legal reasons (there is already a system in place, heads of state are there, parliaments and diplomats go there etc.) more than location.

It is because we tend to assume that one part of a geographical entity (a country, a region or a continent) is always closer to another part of this entity than to a place from another entity. Real geography does not work like how we tend to simply things in our heads... For exemple, Marseille and Lille are two cities within The country of France. Yet, the fact is that Marseille is actually not only lot closer to other cities of other countries like Barcelona, Milan, Madrid or Oma than it is to Lille, but it is also closer to another continent (Africa) than it is to the city of Lille. When you are in the southern coast of France you are closer to north Africa than you are to the north of your own country... Also, it might surprise some that Even the city of Paris, that many people tend to think as a « northern city » is closer to algiers than it is to stockholm

Do more of these vids they’re so cool, Also I’m from Azerbaijan and I suggest you do a video about it, it’s a pretty weird country
For the language facts, you should've overlaid a map of the language borders (by mutual intelligibility) to see how weirdly the shapes of "countries" change. Belgium, Switzerland and Luxembourg simply cease to exist, Norway and Sweden merge, Germany gains territory all over the place all the way into Italy and several territories suddenly gain independence.

Good news: Canada and Denmark now share a land border on Hans Island.
I have been to Delhi and can say about half of them can and do speak English very well.
Now that Denmark split an island with Canada The Kingdom if Denmark properly borders Canada
It's funny that youtube suggested me this video. I actually live near Freiburg and have thought about how many capitals are closer to me then Berlin before. Actually I even talked with my sister earlier who came back from China recently how wierd it is for her chinese friend who can drive for 8 hours and still be in the same province and we could be in Paris in maybe 5 hours or even faster if you take the high speed train.
You absolutely nailed the pronunciation of Freiburg I'm Breisgau! Liked it bc I come from there :)

China has a fairly long border with Kazakhstan, whose western end intersects the Ural Mountains, making it a partly European country.
4:31 You pronounced that without a single mistake! Good job👍
4:35 kinda like how Hong Kong is closer to Taipei, Hanoi, Vientiane, Phnom Penh, Bangkok, Manila and Bandar Seri Begawan than to China's capital Beijing
Germany borders the USA directly if you count military bases.
@sirBrouwer

No, those bases inside of Germany are technically still German soil. The US has to actual pay a x amount to keep using them.
@Egilhelmson

Every country borders every other country that they recognize, if you count embassies (which are legally sovereign territory of which ever embassy it was, rather than paying rent like all foreign bases of which I know).
“Europe has weird geography” *colonizes most of the earth*
If you want a weirdly located capital look at Maputo in Mozambique, it's in the south end of the country
you could perceive the border dispute on Hans Island between Denmark and Canada as a land border between the two as the survey line actually divides the island into pieces and the dispute is about adjusting that border to go around the island on one of the other sides. though this is just the perspective of a Canadian who thinks it would be cool to have a land border with Denmark.
Germany is the only country that, if it lost it's capital, would actually see an increase in GDP per capita

Really? Berlin is below the german average gdp? How come?
@Skeatboart
4 жыл бұрын
@@HUGOGARCAO That is because after the partition of Germany, Berlin was also split. East-Berlin was in a socialist state and couldn't develop like West-German cities. West-Berlin was a capitalist city, but it was an exclave with almost no economic importance and it was hard to access (2 highways and 1 rail, that's all). So Berlin as a whole couln't match it's developed western counterparts. But I think that soon, it will at least be at the same level as the average German

Berlin is only the largest german speaking city by a technicality. The Ruhr district contain several merged cities, woth a larger combined population.

According to the annotation, it is technically true if you only count countries who have English as at least one of their official languages. However, neither Britain nor the United States have English as an official language, at least not at the national level, since only Wales and Scotland have made it one of their official languages and about 32 U.S. states have made it at least one of their official languages (Alaska, Hawaii, and I think South Dakota are the only states with more than one official language), but neither Washington, D.C. nor Westminster have made any language official for their respective countries.

@@Egilhelmson The English and Sioux languages. However, from what I've been able to look online it might be symbolic; which isn't uncommon as most U.S. states don't put the force of law behind their chosen official language(s), they are as official as the state animal or state flower. Arizona (for sure) and Massachusetts (I think) are some of the few that I know enforce their official language, but that only really covers state agencies not the general public, no one is going to ticket you for not speaking in English over there (at least they can't nor shouldn't).
