Scenic guests travelling on the Rhine, Main, Danube will experience one of our newest Scenic Enrich events - the ‘Best of The Sound of Music and Salzburg Show’.
Launched this year in our 2016 Hidden Wonders of Europe River Cruising program, the ‘Best of The Sound of Music and Salzburg Show’ is an exclusive production of the timeless film of the same name performed in the rolling hills of Salzburg where some of the film was shot.
On a full day trip to Salzburg, guests will enjoy a guided tour of this picture book Austrian city followed by a traditional Austrian lunch and musical performance which has been created in partnership with Salzburg Orchestra and Classic Art Vienna exclusively for Scenic.
Guests will enjoy an afternoon of Sound of Music classics, such as Edelweiss and Do Re Mi, paired with Mozart and typical folk music of the region.
The 90 minute performance features a professional cast of seven actors including a children’s choir, and a 16-strong orchestra. Impressive stage sets that fit perfectly with the well-known scenes of the film help create an authentic experience for Scenic guests.

I'll give you one shot at guessing where we just arrived and I'll even give you a tip the hills are alive with the Sound of Music
Yes this is Salzburg and I've traveled here with Scenic to the home of the movie classic the blitzer box office back in 1965 the Sound of Music changed the face of cinema forever and for lovers of the film Salzburg is the holy grail
I mean this place just seemed built for a Hollywood blockbuster Maria from your Scenic exclusive the best of Salzburg and the Sound of Music show gives me the script on this iconic location
Maria: “Salzburg is of course well known all around the world for Sound of Music so right now we are actually in one of the main film shooting locations but obviously in town people are running from one sight-seeing point to the next, like you have the gazebo for example where everyone wants to see it where they were singing I am 16 going on 17
The horse fountain is actually one of the main sight-seeing points where the guests go because Maria was singing there
Mirabell gardens are I think it's so special because when you step into the gardens you feel like your stepping into the film itself, they were singing Do-Re-Mi there so somehow you hear the melody in the back of your head when you step into the Mirabell garden, guests really feel like okay this is the Sound of Music this is why I came here”
look I’ll warn you now you are going to get caught up in this it kinda grows on you but surprisingly not everyone is that impressed, the funny thing is that when you're walking around here you realize that half the people who live in Salzburg haven't even seen the movie they must think the rest of us on this mission are bsolutely nuts
It's quite amazing how many memories come flooding back from the film the whole city just feels like a fairytale mixed in of course with some of the most incredible scenic backdrops you'll see in Europe
If you're a fan of the movie you really have to come t Salzburg it is just stunning and as you walk around you do feel like you are on the set of The Sound of Music
You movie buffs I think this is one for the bucket list
