    27:25 "...bore-gohn-ong.........i'm sorry" awww lol i felt that, "I'm sorry." : ) Great review, buddy! Having played the video game - a lot of theboard game mechanics and "framing" of concepts is probably easier to grasp.

    I misspoke on the round numbers. Each Age has 4 rounds, not 2. On that note, I would say it takes around 1 hour per round to play so the standard game with 2 bots is going to take you about 8 hours! Be aware of that! Also, I should have rolled 5 total dice for the NPR forces in my example I believe and technically, they should have been the black units, not the orange ones (which are mercenaries).

    Love this video. For me and my friends, the hardest part is finding the spots on the map, and pronouncing the names! Great game though, at least what I've played of it.

    I agree that it is very difficult to know where you are supposed to look for some of these locations on the map.

    @@JohnLaRuffa I assume the black plastic inserts for holding each power's pieces is included in the standard? Somewhat by mistake I ordered the standard plus expansion, so I am not getting the deluxe components. Everything here looks fine, however, as long as the inserts are included. I do not want to come up with a storage solution for all of those pieces!

    Thank you for the amazing overview! Was very intrigued by this game and it comes at the exact right time. The way you describe it, it sounds like something that's right up my alley. I don't mind quite an investment for a unique experience. I'm thinking about John Company Second Edition also which I'm enjoying quite a lot.

    While I have not played John Company, I imagine the investment in time to be similar based on what I gathered from looking at the rules. Glad to have been of help!

    John company was a grind to learn and then some. Although I like the game overall, the complication of the solo rules tipped the scales for me on being too fiddly and heavy. I can manage it okay but the experience wasn't worth the effort. It really needed the player negotiation part to really shine imo.

    @@JohnLaRuffa I respect the effort put into the solo mode. It's a game I don't wanna play but still glad to own if that makes sense. I had fun challenging myself to learn heavy rulesets but in John Companies case, the solo works but it's not enjoyable for me. I'll give Europa a try.

    @@stephens2401 I would just be sure that you want to own a game that will take 8-12 hours to finish for a normal game. Learning this was one thing, but that kind of play time had me sell it right after finishing my first real game.

    I have to say no surprise in amount of depth involved. Congrats on your successful effort in this example of play. For me I will definitely stick with the digital version. No surprise with the multitude of flowcharts, don't know any other way to perform said actions for the AI. Nice video, hope you get additional plays especially with the time investment. Until next time 👍.

    It’s a very heavy lift but if you have a place to keep it setup for a while, it can be done. I cannot image trying to play a full game in one sitting. Having never played the digital version, I cannot compare it to that experience, but my guess is they are both heavy!

  • @JohnLaRuffa

    @JohnLaRuffa

    6 ай бұрын

    @jeromed9750 no, but my preference is the cheapest, thinnest sleeves from Mayday. I like those because they have a smaller footprint and the card stacks don’t fall over as easily as they do with most normal or premium sleeves. Plus I literally have thousands of sleeves and don’t want to spend any more money than I have to on them. Finally, the thinner the sleeves the easier the cards fit back in the box. I hope that helps!

    Wow! This game looks awesome! I want to play this game! One question though: How would you rate the replayability? I understand that the different scenarios and factions will provide endless replayability, but is it a game you instantly want to play again after just finishing it? Or are you satisfied and put it back on the shelf after a complete playthrough?

  • @JohnLaRuffa

    @JohnLaRuffa

    I think due to the excessive length that once you finish it, you will probably be good for a while. 8-12 hours of play required for a normal solo game.

    Everything was good except for the actual player boards. They were very thin and warped easily. I think you are paying more for the content then the components. I will say the art is crisp and the storage trays were good.

    I'm not sure you could convert Andalucía to Catholic due to the "all provinces must be owned by realms of the same state religion" clause, I think Granada's capital is in an area with the "diverse faiths" religion. I also think your towns there are affected by the conversion, because they're in a region with "diverse faiths," even if they ARE part of a realm which has Catholic as it's state religion. Otherwise the same logic would apply to an entire Muslim area that I conquered as a catholic realm, their area religion would be meaningless because they're part of a realm which has the catholic state religion, and they would just become loyal. (which seems wrong, or at least makes the area religions system mostly pointless).
