I like to think he did something to hurt her by accident, but didn't mean it, and so he wants to make up for it, by understanding her pain, letting her vent at him if that makes her feel better, but as long as they don't end up apart. He wants to do whatever he can to stay with her, because he would not be able to live without her, hence why he calls it "saving" him.

+cassandra murfitt That was what I was thinking too! Until half way into the song a sudden revelation made me twist the simple meaning in a way so I can relate to the song on a emotional level. This song makes me think of my family and friends and how we are all broken people asking to be 'save' from this wretched world. As ball of warmth and optimism I spread around my family and friends, there are times I feel very depressed and suicidal; but I still spread joy to them and 'save' them from their somber problems and brighten up their days. However I tend to hide my emotional pangs to myself, causing it to build-up to an extraordinary level of anger and agony to the point I almost decided to leave life, hence the line "she says maybe" applies to me in a way that I'll 'maybe' be around to lighten their world (but I'll still keep on 'walking' towards death). Because of my mental condition, my friends ask me to throw all of my bitter feelings onto them (thus the chorus and the line "Let me feel as hurt as you") just as long as I continue to stay with them and "never let us go, " even if the cycle continues ("Break me, crush me, then save me, save me"). I only "stop walking" so my family and friends would "stop falling" from the distress they already have enough in their life. I'm giving another chance at life, hoping I can make some sort difference to people I come across with in life. (For some odd reason, I'm best giving people smiles.) So now, this is my interpretation of the song in my own story. Do I make sense? I probably don't since it's kind of hard for me to explain things. But anyways, kind of suck how I found another song to cry to... : \

I have two ideas on what the song is about; 1. The song is about an abusive relationship, mentally and physically. The male can't help but wish that the woman could make him "feel as hurt" as he made her. He does not want her to leave him. The male wants his partner to "save" him from the guilt he feels. 2. The song is about heartbreak. As the song says; "He says, 'Hate me, break me, let me feel as hurt as you.'" I think that maybe the man had cheated. He feels very guilty and feels the need to feel as broken as his partner. He begs the woman to stay and save him from the guilt. The woman is feeling a bit uneasy thinking that he might just hurt her again, hence the lyric; "She says 'maybe,'" I think 2. makes the most sense.

When I heard this song I imagined the Greek Myth of Theseus and Ariadne. This heroic young woman helps save our hero Theseus from the Minotaur and the Labyrinth, only to be cast aside by him at the end. The good news is that she was picked up by the god Dionysus after the events of this story, so I suppose she’s happy now in the land of the gods. Every time I hear this song I’ll imagine a Greek heroine, left abandoned on the shore by the person she saved, her tragic story turned around a bit when she learns to love again.

Slow songs usually don't do it for me but this has to be one of the best songs I've heard in a long time. Took me off guard that I like this better than most of the stuff I normally listen to despite being outside of my usual area. Beautiful voice and music. Very VERY few songs can actually make me feel emotion, this is one of those rare ones.

I read the lyrics as an abusive relationship. Not necessarily romantic, male-female relationship, but as a mother-son one. Probably because this song inspired my first novel, but I imagine a son who "disappointed" his mother, therefore she abandons him and he kinda wants to understand her. This song gives me special vibes. I imagine a couple, she loved him with all her heart, but he broke her piece by piece, but we all loved someone very deeply and ignored all the pain, didn't we? Later, he realized what he lost and he wants to hold onto her, with everything he has, he even begs her, doesn't matter if she hurts and breaks him, as long as they're together. That's so tragic, that's so sad and still so beautiful, because she still wants him. That's why she's not denying. When hearing this song, I feel like it’s the love story between a demon and a fallen Angel. The demon suffers and begs the Angel to save him, but because she helped him, she was banished from heaven, so she’s unsure. Then he asks her to break him, hurt him, so he will share her pain. I feel it as a sadistic, dark love. This is beautiful 🖤

This is more genuine than any other lyric love-song I've read.

I listen to this song 1 year a go..while this happened to me.. Then i forgive him.. ever since that, he changed to be the best person i ever have, the best version of himself.. I Love this song. It reminds me of a poem I wrote some years ago. It as if it speaking to all the broken pieces that are flowing through my insides.

no ones going to see this, but if you somehow do then id like you to know.. you are an amazing person, and never let someone treat you any less then you deserve. relationships are difficult, but love isnt ur s/o causing you to have trust issues because of their mistakes, its not constantly going back to someone because you dont wanna be alone even though they treat you like trash. my parents have been in an on and off relationship all my life and it puts so much stress on them and me and my sister. nobody should have to deal with that. leave as soon as you can and move on, its gonna hurt and if you truly cared about them they will always pop back up into your head afterwards, but it isnt love thats keeping them their, its manipulation. take care of yourself and stay safe

This song plays in my mind all the time. I love this song and it speaks to me in so many ways that I used to be afraid of. Terrified actually..... Now that i'm in this situation... My heart aches from this but I never have felt like this in my entire life.

This is what I think happened. Someone broke the women's heart and hurt her. The man loved her and told her to save him. She said maybe. He said she could hate him, brake him, push him, and crush him so that he could feel how she felt when her heart was broken...but save him and never let go.
