Project Name : Eunoia Desk
The piece is a result of several iterations and explorations through a continuous design process. It evokes natural materials, sunlight and air; materials that celebrate their original/naked form, eschewing any inclusion of cosmetic overlays. Eunoia, which means a pure state of mind, is thus a reflection of our endeavour for honest, meaningful designs. Seen in the larger context, the desk sits on a kotah floor, with a window that lets in natural light. The backdrop is cladded with natural local stone, unpolished and raw, symbolising the earth. The design of the lights forms an important second layer and are composed of a mix of directional slot LEDs. The form explores different intersections and angles to generate a simple whole. The desk dovetails solidity with delicacy, weightiness with lightness, and brings together an eclectic palette of natural materials. The plant, the soil in which it is rooted, the wooden log and the metal that is born out of the earth collectively represent a microcosm of this planet. We believe that anything which is functional is efficient, is meaningful and is truthful to the person who is going to use it. Our spatial design arm focuses on simplicity and details, creating a mix of tones, materiality and craftsmanship. We use local materials, thus encouraging local labour and craft. Eunoia means beautiful thinking in Greek. The Eunoia desk was made for an office which followed the philosophy of truthfulness and honesty in design. The desk is the first imprint, the first vibe of the office, and the founders for whom the space has been designed and conceived.
