Eugene Peterson - The Bible, Poetry, and Active Imagination
“Prayers are tools not for doing or getting, but for being and becoming.” These are the words of the legendary pastor and writer Eugene Peterson, whose biblical imagination has formed generations of preachers. At the back of the church he led for nearly three decades, you’d be likely to find well-worn copies of books by Wallace Stegner or Denise Levertov. Frustrated with the unimaginative way he found his congregants treating their Bibles, he translated it himself - and that translation has sold millions of copies around the world. Eugene Peterson’s down-to-earth faith hinges on a love of metaphor and a commitment to the Bible’s poetry as what keeps it alive to the world. (Original Air Date: December 22, 2016)

Eugene's books have really touched my life. And continue too. It's a shame there are not more interviews with Eugene. His insight and wisdom are very special and God given. Even though I really like the KJV bible and have read the KJV for years, I also like to balance that with the NLT, but I find some of its translation in places is preconceived , but the Message bible is so alive, as I read it I see the story in my mind, 'word pictures of the imagination'. Truly wonderful.
From his student's cooments and the interview I understand he is intellectual.
Excellent wisdom as always from Eugene Peterson

holy smokes. heart wrenching 6:10 "because I had no friends" - no follow-up to that, is there anyone else whose heart sank and wanted a follow-up question to that? do we just leave those comments because they're uncomfortable? his books on praying the Psalms, and how to pray, could've asked "how did you identify with David in that time" or SOMETHING! great interview tho, thanks for posting!
all the prophets were poets - they were also prophetic - they were prophets who uttered Gods words 😊
