This is one of the most brilliant piano roll arrangements of all time, and I know absolutely nothing about the lady who made it. Thanks for posting this transcription of this super rare roll!!!

The only pianists she reminds me of in style are some other LATER lady Chicago pianists like Marg. (Marjorie or Margaret?) Thompson, who made rolls about 1924-25, and Irma Glen, who made rolls around 1928-1930, and Pearl White, who made rolls around 1930-1934. What is interesting is that her style PRE DATES all these styles, and I wonder if she knew any of these other ladies personally. It is very interesting to hear this style about 7 years before a version of it became prevalent on Capitol (not US!) rolls .

Betty Moore absolutely has HER OWN PIANO STYLE here which can be confused with no one else’s!

What gets me is how NON derivative her tricks are. Although ideas like “hemiola fill-ins” were used by, for example, Victor Arden, the WAY she uses them is very different from Arden, and from every other pianist I’ve heard. It’s amazing how nearly every “trick” “fill” and “novelty break” has the IDEA similar to other more conventional fills used by other pianists, but turned INSIDE OUT or INVERTED!

A little late I know but, if you can, please tell me what "trick" piano playing is. I heard it mention once as something women of a certain age did in the early part of the 20th century and saw it listed as one of the skills one could develop for a vaudeville act. I've never been able to discover what it is. If you know, I would be so grateful if you could write a brief description of it. I'm 86 and don't have too much longer to search for it. 😟

Almost all of this is playable, except a few octave triplings added by the roll arranger when the final master was made.

Most of the triplings are in the last 8 bars of the chorus, although there is at least one triplet accaciatura which is doubled at the octave.
