I have the utmost respect and admiration for Frederic Chopin. I have even more respect for pianists who venture to perform and record his works publicly. It is no small task playing a Chopin etude and I am with all genuine sincerity stating my appreciation for all of you!
I am a construction worker of 40+ years. Now 62, I lay resting in my recovery from shoulder surgery (hazards of the trade) and got to thinking about my school days and the many enjoyable hours at the piano. Having tasted semi-retirement, sort of, something inside opened up this can of worms. Being a composition major I thought "Why not have another go at it?"
The first etude was written for a college buddy who premiered it in 1989. In August of 2023, I started the rest of them. Soon it became evident to model them all after Chopin, some more closely than others. Some can only be called an "arrangement" for obvious reasons, but it was a blast writing them and my intentions were fulfilled. I got to pay tribute to the master, refined my Sibelius skills, and I'm one step closer to finding my own voice. That aside, I had one of the best autumns of my life writing these etudes.
I am happy to see this project come to an end, although a little sad too. In regards to the writing, I’m not sure I really said anything new. I'll let you be the judge?
I wouldn't have believed in my own capabilities if having not arrived at the last one here so it is with all humility... that I give them back to you now: musician and music enthusiast alike, I truly hope you like them. My 🙏 Deepest gratitude to everyone for watching.
-Greg Capozzi
PS - I am interested in working with artists & musicians. As a composer, I'm always looking for feedback and the possibility of connecting with top quality musicians who might be interested in collaborating with my work.
Allow me to test the waters ... Would you be interested in a joint venture? I'm looking for someone who might consider looking at these… possibly playing some of them?
I am currently in the 2nd revisions-stage editing these for playability...
Looking forward to your feedback.

Hell yeah! I can see bits of Elliot Carter, Ligeti, and Carl Vine... but with your own sense of originality! Hats off, a genius!

I have the utmost respect and admiration for Frederic Chopin. I have as much or even more respect for pianists who perform his work publicly. It is no small task playing a Chopin etude and I am very grateful to present to you these 31 etudes of my own. I hope you like them and please feel free to leave a comment.

Daniel just seeing this now. I am working on some of them but as a composer first, the task is daunting for me. No pianist has approached me regarding playing them yet…until you. Are you/would you consider the task? It would truly be something to have these played/recorded…

@@thecelestialvoyager alot of these are impossible to perform...however while I was listening there were some that I thought possible. They all have really great ideas, and some start off possible and then get way too difficult towards the middle/end. If this project is more for the musicality of it and to listen to the midi play it, then its totally fine. However, if you DO want it to be repertoire that a pianist can play, i wonder if maybe you could team up with a talented pianist to help adjust certain sections to be more 'pianistic', if that makes sense. Kind of like how Tchaikovsky couldn't really play piano so he had a pianist friend help adjust his piano concerto to make it more doable. Just a thought

@@danielperkins6023 daniel. TY - i appreciate your messages here. Yeah I was trying to get my college buddy who played the 1st one to do just that but he didn't have the time so... i am def interested and certainly willing to edit these again...funny, my #1 concern was playability and was another approach I had with my friend...just to look at them and give me some feedback. I'm sure we prob both agree already on where and which pieces are encroaching on the playability sections... let me know your thoughts but at this point I'd love to see where this could go... Greg FYI my email is in the description on the HOME page...or look me up on messenger if you want to continue this out of the public sight...
