Clayton: Hello everybody, Clayton here at etrailer.com, and today we'll be taking a look at, and I'll show you how to install, the EcoHitch class III Trailer Hitch Receiver on our 2016 Honda Odyssey. Now you might be looking for a trailer hitch to carry a bike rack, or a cargo carrier, or even tow a small trailer or pop-up camper. Now, this hitch is going to offer us all the features for us to be able to do that. And with it being a two inch by two inch receiver tube opening, there's going to be a lot of options for hitch-mounted accessories. Now this is what our hitch is going to look like installed and this such is awesome, I really like it on the back of our Odyssey here. We're not going to see the cross tube, all we see is our receiver tube opening and our safety chain loops.
So it kind of looks like a factory option on the back of our Odyssey. Now, like I said, this is going to allow us to get some cargo from inside of our minivan to the outside on a cargo carrier or a bike rack, that way we don't have to try to load them in the back of our van or even on our roof. Our trailer hitch is going to be constructed out of steel so it's going to be really strong for a long time. It's going to have a nice black powder coat finish to help resist rock chips and corrosion over time. I really do like this reinforced collar on the outside, that's going to add a little bit of stability for us, and it's just going to make our hitch look totally finished behind the back of our Odyssey. Now, our hitch is going to be a two inch by two inch receiver tube opening, like I said, so it's going to accept a lot of different hitch-mounted accessories. Our hitch receiver is going to take a standard 5/8 inch hitch pin.
If you do not have a pin and clip, it's not included with this kit, but you can find them here at etrailer.com. And we do have a plate-style safety chain loop. I really do prefer the plate, it just looks a little bit more sturdy. And as you can see, it's going to accept all kinds of safety changes. Now I can go ahead and get some measurements for you.
The measurements from the ground to the uppermost part of our receiver tube is going to be about 14 inches. You just want to keep this in mind for ground clearance for going down a trail, or if we have a bike rack or anything that might be lower than the back of our Odyssey. And from our hitch pin hole to the outermost part of our fascia, we're looking right at about four inches. Now, you just want to keep this number in mind for any folding accessories just to make sure they're not going to make contact with our rear bumper. As far as our weight capacities are concerned, this hitch does offer us quite a bit of tongue weight and trailer weight rating for our Odyssey. We're going to have a 3,500LBS trailer weight rating, so that's the weight that the hitch is rated to pull.
Keep in mind, that's the weight of the trailer and the load included. We are going to have a 350LBS tongue weight rating, that's 350LBS pushing straight down on the inside of our receiver tube. So that's definitely going to allow us to carry a four-bike bike rack. And in terms of installation, it's really not too bad. The hardest part is just going to be taken off our rear fascia. We don't have to do any major trimming, or drilling, or need any major tools. And speaking of installation, I'll show you how to get installed on your Odyssey now. To start our installation, we're going to be removing some fasteners in our wheel well, we're going to have three Phillips head screws. There's going to be one located here, here, back here, and then we're going to have one 10mm bolt located back here in the back of our wheel well. Here's that 10mm bolt I was talking about. It's going to be kind of back here in the back corner of the wheel well, this is going to allow us to remove our mud flap. With that bolt removed, we can now pull off our mudflap, we'll just set this off to the side. With the mudflap removed on our passenger side, we'll repeat that same process over on our driver's side. Over on our driver's side, we're going to have an underbody panel that we need to remove, there's going to be three push pins. Then take a nylon pry tool, push into the plastic fastener, kind of pry down till we can get our pry tool underneath, then pull out that clip. We're going to repeat that same process for these two remaining pushpins. If you're ever having trouble getting this pry tool in there, you can always grab a flat blade screwdriver and kind of do the same process. On our driver's side, we are going to have an e
