The old times in GOA are not forgotten at all. So glad to have been there at that time ..... Oh, great track, very nice indeed. Full on, speedy but never hectic or anything like that .... This is one of my Etnica fav tracks. See you soon on the dancefloor in Goa.

Great track! I wonder what ever happened to the other two members of etnica? Of course things change but having 4 people working together was a very good number for a psychedelic project to be really productive. Or were Max and Maurizio always the souls of the project? What do people here think?

Late reply, but here is what I have puzzled together over the years. In the beginning there were Carlo Paterno (usually credited with coming up with their melodies), Andrea Rizzo (usually credited with arranging their tracks) Mauro Begotti (usually credited as their engineer/producer) and Max Lafranconi (usually credited with adding the "crazy"/psychedelic touch to their music). I think Carlo left after IFO to follow a career in studio work. Since he hasnt been seen around Etnica (like reunions and/or interviews) Im assuming he moved on from the (psy)trance scene quite drastically. Possibly on bad terms with the rest, but thats just speculation on my part. If he were on good terms with the rest Im assuming they could drag him out for some reunion shows/old school sets. But since he hasnt been dragged out for that Im assuming he doesnt want any part of that life anymore. It is also impossible to find any sort of pictures of him on the interwebs. All I/we know is that he lives in Milano, and thats about it. Not sure about the chronology, but Andrea had one foot out of the group at the time of the recording of Equator. Not sure about his participation on FOL and I cant be arsed to check the release dates. The official reason there was that Max and Mauro were relocating to Ibiza and Andrea didnt want to go to Ibiza. Maybe he simply didnt want to move to another country. Maybe he had something that tied him to Italy, like family, a significant other or a kid. Maybe there were musical/financial/personal reasons for him to stay behind. Who knows? I think he has made some releases on EtnicaNet (and I think some collaborations with Max and Mauro) as Arkanoydz if you want to check out what he has been up to. He seems to be on good terms with Max and Mauro at least. I had the privilege to actually talk to Max and Mauro (well, mostly Mauro, a really nice guy!) and I asked gently about it and all I got was "It was a turbulent time" or something along those lines. I didnt push the issue, but Im assuming they werent really going to discuss all their disagreements with a total rando anyway so I let the topic be and moved on to other, nicer things. Make of that what you will.

@@Kiham80 Thank you for the info brother! I guess it makes sense. In any case I hope we continue to listen new stuff from the duo because they really know how to incorporate the psychedelic element into their music and this is missing so much from the scene nowadays!

To chime in on the other reply, I've also read that that Carlo was a primary melody writer, but I think Andrea could have been the true secret weapon on Alien Protein, which is by far my favorite work from this team. Discogs says he has a classical music background which really makes sense for Alien Protein. It's essentially electronic chamber music, with fugue influence here and there, and all this melodic counterpoint stuff. Extremely meticulous. Their other 12"'s and EPs stuff from that time sound kind of similar, IFO is similar too, but nothing that came after is as melodically sophisticated as the songs found on Alien Protein. That later stuff is generally just them riffing in phrygian and other modes without nearly as much focused harmonic complexity. Maurizio I think has always been the core of the group. I speculate he's the one who is more or less responsible for the sonic makeup of the group. The JD800 saws and the boomy mid ranged MS-20/SH101 kicks (or whatever they are). As for Max, I'm not sure how much hands on stuff he does. I've always thought he was like what Raja Ram was to Shpongle, but I'm not sure. Maybe more hands on with the electronics than Raj, but I think Maurizio is really the one in the driver's seat.
