In my view the job market for an ETL tester is quite smaller compared to an ETL developer. Many projects do not have specific role of ETL tester. These projects usually have a end to end ( ex: reports, portal, DB and ETL) tester rather than specific to ETL or the developers themselves review and test each other's code. So the number of openings specifically for ETL testing will be less and it could reduce further with more test automation. I also think that its not good to limit a profile to only ETL testing.
Additional info,
Manual ETL testing is usually carried out by offshore based IT companies that take advantage of cheap labour.
Writing Automation scripts and full Automation of ETL testing has higher value and I think this will continue to increase.
ETL test Automation is very important for regression testing.
SKILSS TO PERFORM ETL TESTING JOBS:
I've been working as a ETL tester from Past 6 years, So I've listed all these below points are based on my experience.
1. First and foremost an ETL tester should be upgraded to master in writing complex SQL queries for any DataBase.
2. Incorporate as much as automation for doing ETL validations(Python is my best suggestion).These days it became mandatory for an ETL tester that must of Python knowledge, so this is one of the major skill an ETL tester should upgrade.
3. By having good knowledge on Python, you can build your own python framework that make your job easier.
4. Having good knowledge on UNIX. Sometimes an ETL tester need to perform validations on flat files, in such cases UNIX scripting comes as handy option. By having unix knowledge not only required to work on LINUX OS, it can be worked on Windows in Gitbash tool.
5. Domain Knowledge: Most of the projects what I have worked on is Insurance Domain, so it would be good to have skills on Domain Knowledge.

Sir i am confused between devops and data engineering field I am interested in both the field but some are telling data engineering is scope and some are telling since you are automatiom tester move to devops then you can switch to data engineering if required . Can you please suggest me on that
